Oh geez, guys. It was just a nice gesture by the admissions team, they did the same last year. I wouldn't read anything into it.

I interviewed in November, and I thought that's what they said on interview day, but I might be mistaken.

I do not recall this, but to be honest, I only cared about the date, not the time.

Also, I think this fits this thread all too well (stolen from sibitrum in the "memes that capture..." thread)

Has anyone picked the mind of an AdCom to find out how decisions will be given out this year? Email/snailmail? Lots of outright acceptances/waitlisting?

They said at the interview that decisions would be mailed. However they did saw that it would also be on the online app website as well.

Hm, I wonder if that means we'll be able to know on the 31st or not.

It'd be really nice if AMCAS handled acceptance notifications and streamlined everything. Then again, being AMCAS, they'd probably charge for it.

When I was there, admissions joked about how they took precaution to make sure the site doesn't go down when everyone checks at the same time. I also vaguely remember hearing something about midnight that day, though it's been months so take that with a huge grain of salt. I should have been taking better notes, I guess.

I'm assuming it will be similar to how they accepted people last year, but maybe the precautions they're taking to avoid website overload will change that. Maybe they'll make status changes in short waves throughout the day?

I received the "status change" email at 8pm exactly on Feb 13 last year (and I remember the app site having a very vaguely-worded paragraph that I had to read a few times to make sure it actually meant acceptance ). A week later the official acceptance letter dated Feb 14 arrived at my house.

Thanks, Ismet! Hopefully I'll have the opportunity of joining you next year when I get my status change. 🙂

Is it true they interviewed less this year and the Interview:Acceptance is more like 2:1 rather than 4:1? I think this was talked about earlier in the thread but was never concluded upon.

I remember them saying they were only aiming to interview 700 applicants. Looking at the MSAR, I remember it was about 1000 applicants in years past

I think they interviewed just over 800 last year and ~700 this year, although I think they interviewed more than they were planning because they added a lot more people to the last few weeks.

Here's what Penguinism said...

FWIW, they interviewed ~850 students last year. They expect to cut that number to 750 this year. If you get an interview, you have almost a 50% shot of getting in based on last year's acceptance numbers.

We'll see if that holds true.

Thanks 🙂 They're getting more selective with interviews, which is nicer to applicants I think. Vandy cut from 1000 all the way down to 500 this year.

They said at the interview that decisions would be mailed. However they did saw that it would also be on the online app website as well.

Does that mean that on January 31st, or February 1st, we will each see our decision online?

I remember being told in my late December interview that we would get an email about a change to our status with no decision details on Jan. 31. At that point, you have to login to the online app website to see the decision. Good luck everyone!

Sup Ismet!

Anyway, good luck to you all as you wait in the next few days for your admissions decision!

Just remember-waitlists are not the end of the world. If you really want to go to Pitt, tell them that! 🙂

If you have any questions, feel free to pm me. Cheers!

As you all agonize over waiting a few more days to hear from Pitt, here's a question to distract you a little: why don't guys like to send thank you emails/cards to their male interviewers? I mean, I really don't care either way whether an interviewee sends me one, but it's interesting. I interviewed three guys and three girls. All three girls sent me a thank you email -- none of the guys did. Then I thought about it and realized last year I also didn't send a thank you email to my male student interviewer, but I did to my female student interviewer. Is there some unwritten rule that says guys shouldn't thank another guy for interviewing him? I don't get it

oh, and, sup Ismet!

Sup! 😀 How goes the immuno?

Interesting question! As a female interviewer, I interviewed 4 girls and 2 guys, and only got one thank you email (from one of the guys).

Uhhh let's see, I'm on SDN right now because I have no clue what I'm doing for PBL 👍

Seeing as I didn't join SDN til later, I didn't even know Thank You notes were a thing until enough time passed to make sending one seem kind of awkward. But if it helps, I'm male and find it really awkward to phrase those. How do you convey a handshake, smiles, and eye contact in a message?

Jesse and Ismet, don't you dare make me neurotic about not sending a thank you! Haha :meanie:

 anatomy of the eye ftw!

That's seriously not even fair! hahaha

My guy wants us to reference research articles... I don't even know what the heck to search for. Starting to go sleepy 😴

Well just so ya know, we assign points to applicants based on the impression they make. Lack of a thank you email or card costs 10 points.

It doesn't really make a difference, just a nice little gesture. I submit my report pretty soon after the interview, so in the one case that I did get an email, it was a few days after I submitted the report so it wouldn't have factored in anyway. I don't think I ever sent a thank you letter to my interviewers last year, nothing to sweat about 👍

jk!

Jesse's got it :meanie:

I don't know whether to hate you, or to love you. 😡😍

And thanks Ismet! I figured that was the case. I have actually been waiting till I heard back from schools before sending thank you. In retrospect it's dumb, but it's nice to say thanks to someone and also tell them I was fortunately selected 🙂

Edit: Of course if I got WLed or Red I send them hate mail. 😉

Oh that's rough 🙁 Haha I love the variation between facilitators. Ours brought us 2 dozen cookies and let us out after 45 minutes 😀

But 4 hours tomorrow? 👎

Just curious...are you the female PMOD or one of the several male PMODs? Srsly y'all are confusing.

I'm the female one. There's also a male one who interviewed here. He has his own account too, with an MDApps and all. He posted here earlier 😀

Sorry for the confusion! We're both hoping to make the cut Friday, y'all seem like a good bunch🙂

I hope so too! I'm sure we'll be lurking here all day Thursday waiting for the news 😉

After discussing with an advisor about what I wanted to do with my life and my perceptions of schools, Pitt could be it for me. I hope my interviewers thought so too 😍

Try not yo torture us more than this slow week already is, though! Haha

Pitt really does have a lot to offer. I hope I get good news.

We just pretend to be nice here. 😉

Nah but really, best of luck to everyone!

On the topic of thank you notes, I think I got maybe 3? Although one doubled as an email asking a whole bunch of additional questions...

I didn't take thank you notes into consideration when writing my evaluations either, so no worries if you didn't send one. It's a nice gesture, but it won't make or break you.

Just got the rejection from Vandy in the mail, no interview. I am hoping to be in that supposed 50% for Pitt. This was my favorite of the schools I saw. 72 or so hours...

I loved Pitt, now I'm hoping they loved me cause I'm on 4 other post interview waitlists. Best of luck on this slowest week ever.

I get this weird gut feeling every time I think about Thursday. It's like the feeling I got when I opened up my college decision e-mail, and my MCAT scores :barf:

It's starting to hit harder right about now, anticipating that tomorrow will be excruciating and Thursday will simply be a nauseated blur...
