Sorry to all who have been rejected, and best of luck to each of you with other schools. Getting one of those emails is never a good feeling. To everyone else that is still in the running, as I assume I am (haven't heard anything yet), best of luck to you all as well. It's been a long cycle and a pretty rough 6 months of waiting to hear anything (I interviewed early september) but we're about to get an answer. Soon I wont have to be thinking about it every waking second and that is a good feeling regardless of the outcome.

Well said TJFlyFisher. Sorry to all who have received the rejection emails. For those of us waiting to hear where we stand, hang in there and best of luck!

I have not yet heard anything either. I am curious if there are any Idaho residents that have heard one way or the other yet?

Still waiting... I have a feeling quite a few of us are. Good Luck to everyone the next few days as we hope for that rejection e-mail to not be in our inbox!

can anyone help with a tuition question?

So, if you go here for tuition information for the current year:

http://fbs.admin.utah.edu/download/income/Graduate/SM.pdf

It states an in-state tuition rate of $15,229 per semester. It also says this rate is for Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Summer 2012. In a footnote at the bottom, it says that both residents and nonresidents are assessed the resident rate during the summer term.

I can't figure out what any of this means. Is the total in-state tuition $15,229 x 3 = $45k + per year? That seems a little high for in-state, especially considering US News lists in-state tuition around $30k. Or is the summer term not a full semester and only half the $15k is assessed? Or is there no summer term at all, and only fall and spring semesters are charged each year? Or are there only certain years that a summer term is part of the schedule? And if so, what years? Or is the summer term optional for research, etc? This is the only tuition information I can find, and it seems unclear to me. Most schools will list out MS1-MS4 semester by semester charges if they use a per semester tuition method. Or they'll just list a 12-month encompassing tuition rate. There's plenty of information on Utah's curriculum, but I can't find anything about the scheduling of their curriculum. All it lists is 4 phases that encompass 48 months (4 years) of time.

Anyone who has called or any former students familiar with how this works? I'll call them later today, but I thought I'd ask here first.

I haven't heard anything nor has my other Idaho friend. Maybe they are saving us for last?

Anyone out there with an acceptance a re-applicant ? If you don't want to admit you're a reapplicant just say you have a friend that did lol.

you should post this on the FB page, I've been wondering the same thing.

Anyone out there with an acceptance a re-applicant ? If you don't want to admit you're a reapplicant just say you have a friend that did lol.

I'm a re-applicant to med school, but not a re-applicant to the U (Oh, and I've been accepted there, btw). I didn't apply to the U last year. Not sure if the school knows I'm a re-applicant or not, but I assume they see my older MCAT score from last year and newer one this year and maybe AMCAS lets them know I applied to MD programs for the 2012-2013 entering class.

I guess it's time for me to pack for Miami then. Really hoped to get in 🙁 (just received my rejection email)

So sorry. On the upside 1) you WILL be a doctor and 2) you will NOT have to deal with the inversions. Best of luck to you!

I haven't heard a word from the U.

I'm on two wait lists, and I'm still waiting to hear back from another 3 secondary applications that haven't been reviewed yet, but I don't expect much if they haven't responded after all these months.

Stats, if anyone cares:
MCAT: 12/12/13/Q (37Q)
GPA: 3.67
U of U activity categories: slightly below average on 2, WAY above average on the other 3
Undergraduate: Electrical Engineering

Your MCAT is WOW! Lots of waitlist movement will be happening soon. I would have guessed you would have made it at the U.

Just got the rejection email. Idahoan FYI. Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to those accepted.

So whose the brave one that's calling the admissions office today to get an update?

Has anyone other than Idaho applicants received a rejection or alternate email today?

Were all of the rejections yesterday out of state people? Or have d
some IS been rejected?

A friend and I are both IS and both got the axe about the same time yesterday.

I'm about 90 percent confident that if you are in state and haven't heard anything yet, you are accepted or waitlisted.

Also has anyone heard of any acceptances this week??

I wouldn't be so sure. There are still a lot of us who haven't heard anything. I bet most acceptances have already gone out. I'm a reapplicant and it seams like this year has gone very similar to last. I got my rejection the last day that people were notified and many others were in the same boat as me.

You may be right, but what I do know is that people in front and behind me alphabetically, and in front and behind me by interview date, along with OOS and IS applicants have all been rejected. Unless there is a variable I am neglecting, or unless the order in which the emails go out in is random, I feel somewhat confident that all outright rejections have been sent out.

I think that the U is continually reviewing the applications. They'll review and reject and then re-review the group that is left and reject some more and then re-review and reject and so forth until they arrive at the number of people needed for last acceptance spots and waitlists and so forth. This may explain the wave nature of rejections that have been noticed in previous years.

Have any OOS applicant received news yet?

Didn't someone say that Dr. Chan had told him on the phone that the admissions committee already had their last meeting?

I'm not sure I buy that. The only rejections we have heard of today are Idaho. There's a pattern there. IMO they did all non-Idaho rejections yesterday, and did Idaho today. I guess we'll see soon enough.

This is my line of thinking too Planta. I cannot imagine the effort and decisions the admissions committee has to make. I feel confident in saying they are working really hard.
As always, good luck everyone!

Someone did say that, but it conflicts with another report that everything is ongoing through Thursday. I think they are probably careful about saying anything absolute. For example, when they say "We will still be sending out rejections through Thursday" that could mean, "We have sent out all rejections besides Idaho rejections, which will be sent out tomorrow."

You may be right. I just think that the U's admissions process is so cryptic at times, it's hard to see a pattern or formula for how things are done. That is even more true this year with the use of phone calls and e-mails.

Have any OOS applicant received news yet?
I believe if you look back in the thread that there were some OOS rejected yesterday, and I think a couple have gotten accepted. Just look at previous posts 🙂

Found one rejection but I am guessing that most OOS have not heard back yet. Thinking that they moved from IS to Idaho and then OOS rejections coming today/tomorrow but who knows haha

I have heard of several OOS rejections. The question now is how the wait list works. If there are separate IS and OOS wait lists or if they put them all together...

Did someone say that thursday would be the last day for rejections?

I'm an Idahoan, and I just got an email saying I'm on the alternate list.

There are three separate wait lists, Idahoans, IS, and OOS

This is more evidence to my theory that IS/OOS minus Idaho rejections were done yesterday. The interesting thing is we haven't heard anything about non-Idaho alternate lists, maybe because the Idaho alternate list is separate from the other?

then who would they be rejecting tomorrow?

Sorry to hear about it. its a really rough process. Best of luck to you elsewhere.

Thanks, fortunately I do have some other options. It would have been nice to get the nod from Utah, but the rejection made it MUCH easier to decide on a school ($50,000+ vs. <$30,000 tuition).

That's solid, congratulations! I can't imagine the alternate list is too long. Hopefully you can sneak in.

Thanks. Hope you get into the U and good luck to everyone else🙂

Thanks for the info! Good luck! Do you have other options?

Nope. Rejected everywhere this year. I'm getting ready to reapply. Utah was the last school I was waiting to hear from.

Just received the rejection email. OOS applicant. Good luck to the rest of you waiting to hear. I like the more positive posts, lets keep it that way!
Once again, good luck!
