my app is very similar to yours in terms of experiences, although i have lower mcat/GPA than you. now im wondering its gonna be even more difficult to get an interview 🙁

Sometimes I just feel like its kind of a crapshoot. Maybe I didn't have something they were looking for and you will. Good luck with everything hope it works out for you!

Have any TRUST applicants received interview invites yet?

I got my interview invite a while back (October 5th) but still haven't been given a specific date for it. As I understand it, all the WA TRUST interviews are between Feb 11th and 14th and I believe I read somewhere that specific dates don't get sent out to applicants until at least December. TRUST interviews for other states will be a little different as they interview on different days.

I hope you hear back from them soon! And if you're WA TRUST, maybe I'll meet you there!

Oh, and since the WA TRUST interviews are in Spokane, I'll also be joining in with the tour and meet & greet parts of the Seattle interviews on Jan 3rd so I can get to see the Seattle campus. If any of y'all will be there, see you then!

ACCEPTED!!! OMG ACCEPTED!!!

I got the call at 5:39pm today 11/27.

:highfive::clap::banana::biglove:🤣:claps::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

when did you interview?

Interviewed 11/1! OOR applicant from Cali. Stats around their average but A LOT of in-depth experience with the underserved. Just happy to have been considered and accepted 🙂

Oh hey, we interviewed on the same day! But I have a second interview Thursday. Congrats on the acceptance!

I'm a total underdog in terms of GPA and MCAT. My lizzy score is 59.2 (based upon the spreadsheet calculator, not the GPA*10+MCAT, in which case it would be 60.2).

I applied DO and MD, and have acceptances at two DO schools, and UWSOM is my only MD acceptance so far. Waiting to hear back from Hofstra, and I had an upcoming OHSU interview that I will go ahead and cancel as UW IS my TOP choice 🙂

Nice, I'm OOR too. I interviewed a week after you, hopefully we'll hear something soon! Congrats on the acceptance!

Hi everyone ~

I'm new to this forum and I have to say that following these posts has given me a little bit of sanity during this stressful time! I am a WA TRUST applicant and have an interview in February (haven't received a specific date yet). Super excited, but a little nervous about having to wait so long to interview. Anyone else nervous about this!?

Congrats to all of you who have been accepted! 🙂

Re-applicant: 3.9, MCAT avg 32, IS.
Primary: 8.4.12
Secondary: 8.5.12
Interview: 10.30.12
Under Consideration: 11.1.12
Accepted: 11.27.12 @ 10:00 Pm

Just got a "Still Under Consideration" email. Interviewed 11/1. A bit frustrating but at least its not a rejection.

For those of you who were accepted, CONGRATS! I hope to join the ranks of you! Out of curiosity, who was your EXCOM member?

I got my 2nd under consideration email today too. I interviewed in mid-October.

Wow. Very impressive that you had such success with those stats! [Personally] I think stats mean squat, but a hurdle to get over. One question: What do you think gave you the edge over other highly qualified applicants? I am guessing that you interview extraordinarily well and impressed them in person. Yeh or neh?

I am a non-traditional applicant with a strong clinical background. I have about 7 years of clinical experience and it's all in rural and underserved communities. Heavily involved in increasing access to care for Latino communities and in increasing community health. My GPA was low because I was clueless during undergrad. I did a post-bacc where I redeemed myself academically, but with the merging of my UG GPA, my overall GPA was brought down. Aside from that, my story is one of overcoming adversity. Overall, I feel that the Admissions Committee felt that I would be a good fit for what UWSOM strives to accomplish and I agree with them and my experiences corroborate that.

I hope you hear good news as well. Being an OOR applicant definitely adds extra stress, but it's well worth it in the end.

Now a question for current students or anyone who may know the answer: Did I understand correctly that UW is removing the waiver fee for OOR applicants who want to pay IS tuition after 1 year? Because if that's true then that will make this school very very expensive...

No kidding. I was born & raised in Washington and I live 2miles outside of it. If I had to pay 50k tuition for 4 years that might be a deal breaker.

Had my interview at Spokane campus today. Very impressed with te campus and overall atmosphere there really great place!

:eyebrow:
That's worrisome. I hear that $300k in debt is not the best way to start a career thats focused on underserved & un/underinsured folks. I guess I need to cross my fingers a lot harder for outside scholarships.

There's always the National Health Service Corps.

On another note, I had my interview yesterday. I didn't walk away from it feeling like I blew them out of the water or anything (maybe because I set higher standards for myself compared to last year). I started off a little blabbery, but picked myself up. Had a difficult role playing question... but I think I handled it well. You always walk away from these feeling like you did worse than you actually did, so I hope that's the case!

I think it is natural to come out of an interview with an ethical role play scenario feeling a bit uneasy about your performance. I know I came out of my interview feeling like I could have done better. Brush it off. I am sure you did well, but nevertheless, I wish you all the best of luck 🙂

Could I ask you what the role interview question was?

My understanding is that there exist a number of programs to help folks such as yourself defray the cost of medical school for people going into primary care with underserved. On the bright side, I'm sure nobody will know more about it than the UW financial aid people. 😉

I got really good clarification on the tuition thing today. OOR people can still get resident tuition, they are just changing the system to be less based on how long you've been in WA and more based on demonstrated commitment to under served populations. My EXCOM person said they were pretty sure I'd qualify! 👍

Now just three more weeks of waiting... :xf::xf::xf:

Could I ask you what the role interview question was?

One member of your team overdosed a patient with insulin and you have to tell the family. It's a pretty standard question. My friend got asked this question, and the role play stopped after he told the family what happened. Mine wasn't so easy... they were angry and kept increasing the heat. It probably lasted for a good 5-7 minutes, but it seemed like a lifetime. Got me sweatin' for a while!

Hope the interview went well for ya, at Seattle interview did they say when you could expect a decision.
Also here is my role play, I had a long time patient usually healthy whose health is rapidly declining, I run tests an diagnosis is lung cancer probably terminal. I am instructed to tell her sons first which was odd because you would not usually do that because she's not a dependent. However they did that so right after I told he sons they were adamant that their mother not be told. I had to talk to them then talk with the mother.

I just want to do some shameless UWSOM promoting. I was looking at my online MSAR and under UW said, "As a regional medical school, UWSOM has over 275 affiliated hospitals and clinics across the five state region."

275!!!!!!!!!! O_O First, wow. Second, that must take a hell of a lot of administration. Third, um, UW is awesome and other schools really can't compare with its regional influence.

Any insights on this one? I think you should explain the mistake immediately, are there lots to say prior to that?

Just adding my stats here:

I was accepted this week. Interview mid-Oct.
MCAT 30, overall GPA 3.85, science GPA 4.0, extracurricular activities

Good luck to everyone!

Finished my interview last Thurs, 11/29/12. I was a little nervous having an 8am interview, but this turned out to be a very positive thing. Those interviewing me were very interactive and did a great job of asking follow-up questions to dig deeper into my experiences. I felt they were genuinely interested in who I am, which was night and day compared to my interview from the previous year. Here's hoping to a phone call!

Definitely nervous. February just seems so far away! On the up side, past year's threads make it sound like decisions come out within a week or two of interviewing for TRUST applicants, so not too much waiting after the interview is done.

Anyway, maybe see you at the interview! I'm WA TRUST also.

I'm excited to be interviewing here soon. I've been following this thread and reading interview advice...anyone have anything else to add that would be helpful?

Also, did OOR region applicants get questions about why UW or ties to Washington or questions like that?

Thx!

Tell them and don't try to stonewall the family. If they ask follow up questions, don't be too hasty in with your answers. Take a few seconds to respond if you need to, but just imagine how you would feel on the other end.

I think it was night and day too. Last year, I didn't get those clarification questions to dig deeper, which I think broke my application...

Were you guys at the Seattle interview last week given any indication as to when the next excom meeting is?

Tried to find a specific date, but couldn't get one. They kept saying "a few weeks", which is what they always say. Given that my friend has received a SIC from them last week, I imagine it would be before or during the first week Winter break, which begins after Finals on 12/17.

That's what I was thinking as well, wait is on. Well good luck and thanks for the info.

Just got an II from UW...Idaho Resident and first time applicant.
Total underdog applicant in regards to statistics...but have a unique non trad story and solid EC'S.

MCAT:27
Cum gpa 3.68
BCPM GPA:3.57
So if you havent heard back from this school keep your hopes up!!!!!!

Congratulations on the ID interview. I'm sure you've got a great story to tell the interviewers.

For those of you who have interviewed already: At the UW interview day, did it look like a sea of blue and black suits? My favorite (and "lucky") suit is light grey, very well-fitted and just plain awesome. I did purchase it in the summer for a wedding & job interview, but it is now the wintertime. What do you think? Keep the old, or get some new threads (navy or charcoal) that are more wintery/conventional?

Rumor has it, there is a strong correlation between suit savviness and providing exceptional patient care

Save the money and wear your grey suit! You'll be fine as long as you wear a suit (believe it or not there were a few interviewees in my group that didn't wear a suit/professional attire 😱)

That being said, the EXCOM members are definitely judging your answers than your appearance.
