I believe they are enacting pass/fail for the first two years right now and from now on. They emphasized this in the tour and also the professor question session. It was really a big relief for me because honors pass fail in second year was a big turn off. All the students at places I've interviewed at emphasized whatever you do, attend a pass fail school--makes med school so much less stressful and competitive.

I'm excited about UWs current curriulum renewal. They've beem very transparent with the process and have a blog on the UW medicine website. The new curriculum will be implemented in Fall 2014, when we are second years!! If you guys have any suggestions or ideas for the new curriculum, send a message through the blog. I sent one and got a response that they'll consider my suggestions for curriulum renewal that I've learned from this interview season. Especially those of us who will be matriculating to UW this year, it's in our best interests to submit our ideas and suggestions. The curriculum renewal link is hard to miss on the education website of the UW medicine homepage. Brainstorm good ideas!!

Also, anyone considering the prematriculation program the summer before M1? You take histology for about 5 weeks and take an exam and if you pass, you get credit and don't have to take it during M1!! There's no tuition for the program so you can save money too!

The P/F existed last year when I toured too. It was one of my questions as other schools I interviewed at only did P/F the 2nd year.

The curriculum renewal does not affect this entering class. It only affects the class year after ours. We essentially get grandfathered into the old curriculum because it will be very hard make everything match up. This came from one of the faculty members who was part of the curriculum revamp.

If I get in I would totally do that program. It would be a nice intro and if you mess it up, you just take it with everyone else. It would only be nice for the Seattle UW student though.

You mean other schools only did P/F the 1st year.

And at those schools, first-year students would say, oh the curriculum is great, I'm having a wonderful time, it's pass fail first year and oh look at this fancy anatomy lab to your left!

So let me get this straight. UW has had 2 years P/F since 2011, but their website is still not updated?

Anyone else from the recent Montana WWAMI interviews in Bozeman get any news? I got the SUC email, trying to keep my hopes up. Do they make most of their decisions after the second round of interviews in February? Do they even send rejection notices before then? It's tough to figure out what, if anything, that pertains to you Washington residents can be applied to the WWAMI states. Really loved my interview day and Bozeman is only a couple hours from home. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yep, sorry, other schools did the P/F first year.

It looks like that might be the case... or that med student were severely misinformed and is in for a treat this year 🙂

SUCs and rejection emails went out yesterday. Congratulations, you SUC! Best of luck, I'm with ya!

Based on the amazingness that is the UW Medicine Application Portal, I would be in no way surprised if their website was not up to date.

For the first round of Montana WWAMI applicants. Not sure on everyone else.

And that pre-mat program would be awesome! I can't think of a better subject to study than histology for transitioning into med school. I do wish they offered an analogous program at the satellite sites.

Wow, thought I was destined for a rejection, but found out I screened for an interview yesterday! Now just awaiting anxiously at the edge of my seat for a date. Those of you still waiting for an interview invite, don't lose hope yet!

I'm curious, did those who get rejected also receive a reason for why in their email?

I got rejected last year, and they do provide reasons. Thought they generally aren't helpful. They are generic reasons, which are copy and pasted into the e-mail. Best to e-mail them and set up an exit interview to see how you can improve.

Ya I didn't get a reason but I requested a feedback interview. Thanks for answering my question though!

I was seriously considering this program, until I realized that I would still have undergrad loan payments coming in until september. I just cannot afford lose the income I would generate over the summer to pay for those loans. It's a total bummer, as it is a great resource to students which have been out of school for over a year.

Did anyone else get a financial aid email from UWSOM? Do they send out to all who interviewed?

After looking over UWSOM's fin-aid page, am I correct in concluding that merit-based aid is not offered? Worth double checking in case I missed something.

Dang. Just got the "Still under consideration" email. That is the fourth one I have gotten.

I think the next vote will be different though. I still have a secret plan that I have yet to unleash. If I am still SUC after the next vote, I will initiate the process.

It involves calling the SOM and crying daily until they can't stand it anymore.

So how has this been going so far?

Anyone else get asked about how they prepped for the MCAT at the interview?

All my prepping was done in between watching Lost and p90x. I tried hard to get this covered in my interview but never got my chance.......lol.Why would an interviewer ask this? My questions were much more about who I am, where I picture myself, what I think about blah.

I got asked this question last year when I interviewed, but not this year.

It's a valid question. It can possibly tell the interviewer a little about how you choose to prepare for things, ie a critical exam. This is important because as we all know... exam taking does not end once you enter medical school.

Anybody here interviewing on 28 February? I just got my date this afternoon. Just wishing it wasn't going to cost me $400 to fly from New Orleans and back, LOL.

Now you know the pain that everyone from the Seattle area feels when we fly for interviews.

You're right. I guess I'm looking at it more in the big picture of who the person is. I'd rather be asked a more subjective question. I definitely enjoyed the healthcare policy and role play most.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone else is in Fairbanks and wants to drive or get a ride to Anchorage for the WWAMI interview, I'd be glad to split gas money. Or, if anyone has a place to stay in Anchorage for a night, I'd be interested in that too. PM me.

I was asked this same question. I re-took the mcat, and they mentioned they were curious how I improved my score.

UWSOM CLASS OF 2017!

Just wanted to say that I am SO excited to be under consideration for this school. I thought I was going to be screened out instantly as an out-of-stater, but I got my interview invite from UW in December, and interviewed mid January (last week).

A bit concerned about the OOS out-of-state tuition waivers not being an option anymore though =(.

I personally found the 3-on-1 interview format to be really refreshing compared to the usual 1-on-1.

Agreed. All my questions were about my experience in health care, my thoughts on how things are changing in the field, etc. I really don't see how at this point in our careers how we studied for the MCAT is relevant. Either we did well, in which case we apparently know how to study, or we didn't do well and most likely didn't get offered an interview anyway. I guess every interview committee has a different idea of what is important though.

Has anyone heard anything that interviewed in the last two weeks? This is so stressful

Does anyone know if we can apply to the pre-mat program before we get accepted?

Any matriculating student to UW can do it. You kind of have to be accepted and decide to go there to do it. It isn't offered until a month before classes start.

So today I got a call from a 206 number. I was in the middle of teaching a class but I felt my phone vibrate. I looked at it and quickly ran out of the room... I calmed myself quickly and answered the phone...

It was an automatic recording telling me that I am overpaying on my car insurance.

Dang you telemarketers!

Who's ready for their AK interview? Commence nerves.

P.S. If anybody needs a ride in/around Anchorage tomorrow, PM me and I'll see if I can help.

I am sure this question has been answered, but how long until after the February 4-7 interviews until we find something out? When do they meet?
