Just withdrew my acceptance, good look to all you hopefuls out there. Hopefully one of you all get my spot 😀

Anybody hear back anything from the MD/PhD program post-interview?

Just got an interview invite...totally unexpected. Am I just interviewing for waitlist spot as of now? I will attend the interview either way, but would be nice knowing what to expect.

Question for current students:

do you guys have a large amount of mandatory lectures you have to attend. Lectures are almost useless for me, as I am not an audial learner, so I was wondering how much class time is required daily or weekly. Thanks.

Very few lectures are attendance required, the only exceptions I can think of are the clinical lectures, and the first lecture of a new block. However, ALL small group activities like dissection (MWF, 8am-whenever you finish), CCL (problem-based learning class, meets every monday and friday from either 1-3pm or 3-5pm), doctor patient relations/physical exam (every tuesday or thursday from 1-3pm) and any labs associated with a particular block.

So while you don't have to show up to morning lecture most of the time, there will be something required in the afternoon 3-5 days/week.

Did anyone else get this cruel and unusual e-mail today???

Dear Applicant,

Your application will be reviewed by the Committee on February 27, however we wanted to make you aware that decisions from that meeting will not go out till around March 11, 2013 due to a computer system upgrade. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Think they might call people with acceptances after this meeting?

I did....I hope they call

if it clearly says decisions go out on March 11th, why the hell do you expect to be notified today?

Wake doesn't call by the way...email only.

Wow...case of the Monday's? Nobody said anything about being notified today by the way, we were referring to after the Feb 27th meeting. I'm not expecting to hear sooner than the date stated in the e-mail, but I think it would be a nice touch if they at least called the accepted applicants in this group given the computer system update.

I don't recall saying anything about being notified today.....

woops! Sorry guys, yeah, case of the mondays (mixed up the 2/27 date with today). my bad. 👎thumbdown👎

That being said, nope, don't expect anything till March 11. Wake is damn good at providing updates, but they don't surprise.

It's cool. No worries

Are you on the Alternate list?

I'm on the alternate list and didn't get an email. Maybe that means I'm so low on their priority that I don't even get brought up in meetings anymore. Oh boy

No...

It's for people that have just interviewed and are awaiting their initial decision.

Hello All,
I am interviewing March 8th and flying in from Maryland. I wanted to know if any of you could advice on where you stayed and what airport you flew into and how you got around.
I will not be renting a car.
Thanks! (First post, woohoo! 🙂)

What was it before this? I hope they're shelling out some massive scholarships, 73k is steep even for private.

Remember that the CoA is like a max number. You should be able to live on less than that. I think before the tuition was 4k less or so?

Could anyone give some insight into acceptance chances after being offered an interview late in the cycle? I was complete early and was offered an interview 6 months later. Does this mean only waitlist spots are open to me? Also if I am waitlisted, are my chances lower than other waitlisted people since I was not a first choice interview?

I interviewed on their first MD/PhD interview date and haven't heard anything yet! One of the third year (PhD year 1) students that took us out to dinner said that she was accepted in Feb.

I wouldn't say only waitlist spots are open to you because you're interviewing later. However, there will be fewer committee meetings for your application to be reviewed since it is later in the cycle. This may be to your disadvantage in terms of acceptance and/or being accepted off the waitlist because the committee has had more time to consider other applicants. Your written application is only part of the whole picture and you could blow them away in the interview and be accepted. You never know! Best of luck to you.

would it be advisable to send a LOI before your action date?

would it be advisable to send a LOI before your action date?

IMO it would be best to wait until after you hear your decision since I think of it almost as a life-line to be used when the situation calls for it. But idk, your call.

Was just notified I was added to the alternate list +pity+ Interviewed Feb 5th.

Can we use the old website to check our status, or is there a new one since the upgrade?

Can someone pls post the link to the website for applicant status updates? My email link no longer works for some reason

I would like to know this as well, I tried to use the old status update link and it didn't look like it was working

Secondary completed in July, Interview Invite January 4th, Interviewed February 4th, Accepted Yesterday!!

This is off topic as I have not even applied to WF, but I was on another post and they listed WF as a purely PBL style education. Is this correct? And if anyone can tell me why they like this style more than traditional lecture I'd appreciate your perspective. I have acceptances to both and I'm weary of pbl.

I don't know where you read that, but Wake is not pure PBL. We have 4 hours of case-centered learning/week in addition to lecture.

32O, 3.97 Cum. But you should know that if you've received an interview, your interviewers don't see your stats. They assume that if you've been given an interview, you're academically capable. They want to see if your personality is a good fit for Wake.

Thanks. I read it on SDN somewhere. Should have known to take it with a grain of salt...

Does anyone know if there is another AdCom meeting this month, or do spots open up for the alternate list at this point only when people reject their acceptance?

I am a recent grad from Wake (last year). And I can assure you they take people off the wait list until the day before classes start if someone comes off the list. I had friends come off the wait list all the way into the summer. I got accepted two weeks before graduation (Which was in late May for me). Ended up getting a scholarship after my classes started. Worked out great for me.

And I actually called the school just to check the status of my application and was told that I had been accepted a week prior, but apparently my school filtered the email. Calling to mention you are interested is never a bad thing as long as you are not annoying (i.e. call all the time) and are pleasant.
I sent multiple letters and called a couple of times.

Hang in there!

I interviewed February 14th my year, btw.

Are IIs still being given out at this point, or is the season pretty much over?
