Interview coming up soon! Does anyone have any tips or pointers for interview day at WSU? I've looked at the interview feedback page and it seems like a lot of the questions are just about your app, nothing ethical or too weird. I am little concerned tho with medical policy questions (because of the upcoming elections). Do you think those show up? Anyone wanna show their experience for this cycle?
Thank you and best of luck!

This was my first interview, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seemed very laid back. My interviewer basically went through all of my activities and asked me about each of them. He asked things you would expect (what were the challenges, how did you overcome them, what did you gain, etc.) He asked how I chose the schools I applied to and why I applied to Wayne.

I was also nervous about potential ethical and health policy questions, but the interview was only about my experiences and goals.

Do you guys think applying to Wayne with a 26Q 3.5sGPA and a masters degree, with 5000 clinical hours, 250 shadowing and 1300 volunteering hours have a chance.. I jut received my score and I know it's not in the 30s but I am IS and did my pre med course work at Wayne.. Sorry to bump this thread with this but just wondering if I should or if its a waste of money.

Thanks! Did they let you know when the first decision date was? I'm interviewing Oct. 30 so I'm not sure if I'll make it for this admissions round or the next one.

You won't make the first round, but you'll hear in November for sure

Honestly, applying would most likely be a waste of money, unless you are a URM applicant. If you are, it could be worth a shot. Non URM, that MCAT is probably only likely to get you DO acceptances, unless something about your app really stands out. :luck:

They gave me a list of offer dates, it looks like you'll hear on November 28th.

Still waiting for secondary (my AMCAS was verified 10/10/12).... Haven't even gotten the "we are looking at your primary" email yet. What are the chances I will get one? totally freaking out at my late application.

I have a 3.60 GPA (yikes) with 33R MCAT.
Currently doing clinical research into beta-blockers, volunteered in a children's hospital for over 150 hours, received a $11,000+ scholarship, volunteered to raise money for epilepsy research, and was a street drug information volunteer for a street organization.

Just got my secondary today. I was wondering if it'll be okay just to mail in $50 USD in cash? I currently don't have any checks on me gr.

Just head out to any CVS/Rite-Aid/Walgreens and ask for a 50 dollar money order. Theres like a 78cents fee but thats it! Fill it out like you would the check. That's what I did

Isn't it illegal to mail cash? At any rate, it seems like a good way to lose it. Money orders are surprisingly easy. I got one through my credit union group and it was free.

Banks also tend to handle money orders pretty well too...

Hi, I am an African American applicant to Wayne State. I have a Chem Major and my MCAT is 11PS 10 VR 11 BS. I have completed my application on 8/28. Does anyone have a rough idea when I will be called for an interview?

sweet. So I may be within a month. When is your interview?

Nov 26, though I am trying to get that changed. I go to school out of state so I will be home the whole week of Thanksgiving but leaving on the 24th so it would be convenient to have it the week before. When I called about it apparently a pretty significant batch of invites got sent out this morning (she said about 50) so it appears they were all scheduled in that general time since she said if anyone else called to reschedule who had one of the dates I want then I could get moved there. But long story short, it appears they are scheduling their end of November dates as of right now!

II this morning as well, 3.9, 34, OOS complete early September.

Scheduled for 11/5. Short notice and first interview have me a bit nervous, but very excited to have the chance to interview here and looking forward to it!

Edit: If i'm scheduled for the afternoon slot, should I be able to make it to my 7:10p flight out of DTW?

I would guess you would. It's not like other interview days with formalized schedules, so you could potentially just head out right after your interview.

Yeah, you would not be likely to have any issues, just have everything with you to head right to the airport after the interview, depending on the time your interview is.

I was complete mid August and have not heard anything from Wayne since then. Would requesting an update on my file be asking too much?

You should be able to make it. In case it is a later time slot like 3:00-4:00 then I would definitely leave right away. Traffic is not fun starting around 4:30ish, sometimes as early as 4:00.

Does anyone happen to know how many people they interview compared to how many secondaries they request?

I'm sure this is just me being really nervous..but are you suppose to bring a folder/portfolio to your interview? I don't have an update letter or anything to give them (waiting till Fall grades if necessary) but know they had out papers and stuff and I'm sure it'll look weird just holding em in your hand.

They give you a folder w/ lots of papers inside.

I usually bring a professional portfolio to my interviews just because I already had one haha. It's nice to hold any papers I want to bring along, a pen, etc. but it most definitely doesn't make a difference whatsoever in how interviewers view you. Plus I think every school will give you a folder with documents (as the above comment confirmed).

This may be a weird question, but does anyone know if owning property in Michigan has an effect on residency status?

It would be awesome if I could get in-state status.

Oh and good luck for those who have interviewed and might be hearing back tomorrow. :luck:

That'd be sweet. Just buy one of those $1 homes in detroit, and you can say you're a homeowner! Too good to be true, I bet.

Yes, but I was referring to long time ownership.
But I think I found my answer and it's pretty much a no, or a no that cannot be the only factor.

You should - it's not until the 21st and I believe the committee meets fairly frequently.

Congrats! yes i am pretty sure you will hear back by the November offer date.

I got one that said they did not get to my file so I was moved to November date

If we don't get a call today, do we just assume it's a rejection?

I'm not sure if they call, I think its an email they said will be sent out (acceptance/waitlist/rejection) by 2pm today EST? Can anyone verify this

Yeah they said email and I'm pretty sure they tell you whatever the decision they make - acceptance, rejection, or waitlist.

This is what I was told.

Thanks for clarifying!

Another wonderful day of being terrified to check my email....
