So it turns out the lady I spoke to this morning at admissions decided not to ruin my surprise in the mail today—I've been ACCEPTED! Perhaps not receiving that email means something. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congratulations! I'm both incredibly happy for you and incredibly jealous. Hoping to be classmates in 3 months 🙂

For those that got in, were you OOS/IS?

and how did your interview go?

Thanks!

Hello everyone! Hope you're doing well. I know how stressful the medical school application process can be and waiting is very anxiety inducing. I'm a current M1 that is here to help give some insight (well technically, now an M2). I have had some experience interviewing kids this year so I have a better idea of how the process works. To begin, EVMS is an excellent school with wonderful resources for it's medical students. Wait-list movement does move a lot - even if the process takes a long time. This past year I was taken off the wait-list very late in the cycle, so don't give up hope!

A few random points:

1) If you have been accepted, the EVMS 2018 page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EVMS2018/ --> Congratulations!

2) If you are wait-listed and haven't sent updated letters or letters of interest-- I highly recommend doing so. They actually do help and they sort of keep track of interest. When I was accepted off the wait-list, one of the admissions member tried calling me for days (as I was at a Heart Conference) in a different country. When I finally got notification of my acceptance, one of the secretaries told me personally that they knew I wanted the seat and that they told ADCOM to wait till I replied (all based on my phone calls/emails that they received throughout the year) ---> Don't give up hope!

3) EVMS is moving forward in improving it's curriculum and student experience. Our match list this previous year was incredible. I've attached it for your reference: http://evmsalumni.com/pdf/Match List 2014.pdf -->

Feel free to ask me any questions- now that I'm on summer vacation I'll have time to answer. Best of luck!

I am OOS/F. My interview was fantastic and I actually stayed in contact with my admissions committee interviewer (emailed back and forth a bit) which I guarantee had a huge role to play in my acceptance. Plus I sent a well written letter of intent that also included three updates from the year that were substantial with respect to time and relevance to medicine.

Hey Ar2k8 so I'm going to be an incoming OOS student. I was wondering what the recent changes/improvements to the curriculum you mentioned were and what new students can expect to see this August.

Also I was OOS and my interview went very well and I think a letter of intent I sent definitely helped me!

Hey- the curriculum changes work towards reducing redundancies between classes, decreasing class time, and changing the frequency of exams M2 year. They are also moving towards more small group activities. Regardless, most classes are not mandatory and the changes are geared towards improving our step 1 performance and creating a more clinical driven focus.

Just accepted via snail mail. Finally my first acceptance gonna burn all my mcat books omg. Just wanted to let everyone know. Don't lose hope waitlist is but part of a process of crowd control.

Getting some southern comfort, then onto apartments and Facebook groups...

Following instruction is important, so I wouldn't suggest sending more than the required amount unless the extra one is glorious and you know it.

Also, doesn't hurt to call the admission office and ask.

Called school EVMS today. Let them know that I was accepted at Grenada and they want me to put a deposit soon. She said there wasn't much she could tell me. She said the wait list moved a lot on the 15th but wait list movement has slowed down now. She said the tiers do not change (so I am still middle tier). She cautioned me about the risk of obtaining residencies at foreign medical schools. I said my first choice was to attend a US school (I am still on the wait list at EVMS and VCU).

I just got an email saying they saw where I have been accepted elsewhere and asking if I was still interested in EVMS. Anyone else?

Wishing I could say I was accepted elsewhere but at this point they are allowed to view your acceptance information. They are supposed to let that school know if they accept you. At least that's my understanding of the trafficking rules.

Small correction: They can only see your other acceptance(s) after they've accepted you.

They knew I had been accepted elsewhere even though I've only been waitlisted. Do you mean they can't see specifically where I've been accepted?

Oh, snap - You're right. Your comment made me go and double-check the page I read this information on, and I swear they changed it since I last saw it: https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas/faqs/305002/canschoolsseeotherschools.html

This is the new part (or the part I overlooked...): "In April of the application year, medical schools will have access to the National Acceptance Report, which lists every applicant with an acceptance or matriculated action."

So, yes, I take that to mean that they won't see the actual name of the school that's accepted you, only that you've been accepted.

I missed the "matriculated action" part. So they can see we've been wait-listed at other schools? I thought they could see where though. Due to the notification part of the rules. Either way!

Matriculated means you've attended orientation and actually joined the class, right? So I don't think it has anything to do with being waitlisted. Am I missing something?

When does AAMC send out the accepted student survey thing? Accepted in the beginning of April, havent received anything

Just found out I was accepted this morning after another school ran their acceptance report and called me. Anyone know how long it'll take to receive their snail mail packet?

You should get the packet pretty quickly. I received mine on a Monday and my letter was dated on a Thursday.

Should in-staters on the waitlist basically just give up hope at this point? 🙁

I wouldn't say to give up home, per se. But I'd definitely start reapplying now if that's the route you want to take

So happy for you! I remember reading your posts in last year's EVMS thread. Congratulations!!

Got in off the wait list today OOS, 2 applicrion cycles, was gonna start a postbacc and already submitted my 3rd AMCAS, and was in Tokyo. Turned my phone off airplaneode and saw the text from my mom. Best day of my life

Guys what LORs did you submit? I got the idea that they only want committee/ letter packet, although I have more from volunteering/shadowing.

Hi guys. Just got accepted to the Medical Master's program. Is anyone looking for a roommate? I can PM you some more details about myself. I was going to post this on the postbacc forum, but the thread for EVMS in that section is pretty dead.

I am on the wait list still. This week, EVMS offered me a chance to be in the medical masters program, which starts a week from today. They said I probably would not get off the wait list this year for the medical school based on my spot and the time remaining. I thought about it for a day, but decided to turn it down. I was accepted at SGU in Grenada (back in April) and accepted and paid my tuition for the 1st semester on July 15th. If I was 22, I probably would have taken their offer to be in the medical masters program, but I am a 39 yo career changer so I decided I was better off not adding another year to the process. One cousin, a Neurologist in Florida, thought I was better off just going to SGU. A family friend who is a doctor told my parents he thought I was better off at EVMS in the Medical Masters program. At the end of the day, I was just mentally ready to start medical school and just didn't want to wait another full year and go through the application cycle for a 4th time. It was a tough decision that I had to make very quickly. I probably would have been accepted into EVMS in 2015 if I did the program - but there is no guarantee. If I get off the waitlist at EVMS for the medical school (in the next week) then I will take it (and go whether or not I can get back tuition from SGU). But to spend an extra year and 60K to reapply next year without a guarantee of a spot just seemed like too much. They say that 94% of people in the Medical Masters program get into medical school the next year. So it is probably a good deal for a lot of students, but I just didn't think it would work for me.

what are the average in state stats? i saw them somewhere and cannot relocate them
