2013-2014 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Snail mail only. No status changes or emails and they can't tell you anything over the phone. I can't remember ever caring so much about checking my mail. I'm guessing acceptances will arrive by Wednesday for everybody. Hoping for some good luck and speedy USPS delivery!

Ohh I thought that we'd receive them tomorrow.. I guess what you're saying makes more sense

Well if you live near Atlanta I'm sure you could get them tomorrow. I was accounting for people that live far away. And there's no way to know if they mail them all out first thing in the morning or later in the day. Ideally an acceptance would reach me here in Virginia by Tuesday! Fingers crossed.

Any news?

ugh this waiting game stinks! Maybe today or tomorrow letters will arrive?

It's Halloween! I'm feeling confident today is the day (for no good reason)

Nobody has gotten anything?

The mail cannot be that slow! 😱 I'm willing to volunteer for USPS if it'll help speed up delivery 😛

I was wrong, no acceptance in the mail. On the bright side, the winter hat I ordered late Monday night arrived today using standard shipping (3-5 business days). The fact that no one has an acceptance yet makes me think they didn't send out acceptances on Monday. Emory certainly knows how to build anticipation!

I would have sworn someone would have received a letter by now. Anyone want to call and ask?

I think it can take a really long time in some cases. It took two weeks for letters to arrive at another school I've applied to. If I had to guess, I would say Wednesday next week people with begin to hear. Depending on location of course.

Sounds reasonable.

Can anyone (maybe a current student) confirm if letters have actually been sent out? One of my friends who has an Atlanta address has not gotten anything, which makes me think maybe nothing went out... Idk just speculation

I have an Atlanta address and have not received anything but that doesn't mean nothing went out. I'm assuming I haven't received anything because I haven't been accepted yet.

Current student here....letters went out last week (I believe it was the day after they said they would send them out). Don't be shocked if it takes a week (or more depending on where you live) for the letter to get to you. It's just one of those things. Also, for those of you still in school and getting your mail sent there- factor in your campus mail system. A lot of people forget that the campus mail often adds a few days to the arrival time. Good luck everyone!

Thank you for letting us know! I'm sure we all appreciate the update.

Any word? If they were sent out last week, I'd love to hear sometime soon

I was wondering if anyone heard back yet. Its interesting how no one posted an acceptance yet. Lol

I can assure you that if someone on SDN receives an acceptance, they will post in this thread.

It'll happen soon. I would be very surprised if no one on SDN was accepted, particularly considering how competitive some of the SDN applicants can be. I'm sure acceptances just haven't arrived yet (Today or tomorrow seems possible though).

I haven't even received a II here and I feel the excitement with you all waiting for decisions! Good luck! Such a great school

I haven't either, and it's making me anxious! When were you complete at Emory?

Anyone here back today? Talked to a current med student and he said he is not sure if letters were out

Before the MSAR changed to the October date when acceptances were going to be first sent out, it originally had Nov. 12th as the date listed. I think it's a little silly for all this tension!

It's not that silly. I don't think people are going by the MSAR dates but the five batch dates that Emory gave us during the interview. Oct 28 was the first one where they said they would mail out acceptances for everyone who interviewed before. Hence the anxiety.

Hi! I am a junior in undergrad and researching schools for the next application cycle. I love absolutely everything I have learned about Emory through the website, but I would really like to visit Atlanta to make sure it is somewhere I would like to live and to also see the campus and the surrounding areas. I know that Emory does not offer tours of the medical school. Is there anything you suggest doing to help me get a sense of what life is like around campus and in the area?

Thank you so much! (And good luck to everyone else waiting on letters!)

Med school admissions is such a crapshoot. You could have a 4.0 and 40 and not get invited for an interview at Emory but get accepted to Harvard. My suggestion is to just cough up the money and apply to Emory. I wouldn't invest time and resources (over the application process) into one school that may never even give you a shot.

For what it's worth, I thought Atlanta was awesome and I've lived in DC and NYC.

I don't want to completely discount your approach here, but I feel like you're getting ahead of yourself a little bit. Maybe this is just me (since I see posts to contrary on SDN all the time), but I've tried hard not to set my heart on any single school because of the insanely competitive and often unpredictable process that is medical school applications. I personally don't want to get my heart broken, which is what happened to me for college applications.

On the topic of visiting schools though, I can tell you in my experience, visiting schools for interview day has been a valuable time for me to explore a bit. If you're able to take an extra day or two -- or even a weekend -- around the medical school, I'm sure you'll be able to get an even better good sense of what kind of place it is. I haven't found that to be necessary, however, especially since I'm planning on attending some second look weekends (another good time to check out the school) where they usually introduce you more to the city, etc.

I guess my point is, there's too much variability in this process. Even if you do visit Emory now, you're not guaranteed an interview and even then you're not guaranteed an acceptance. Who's to say you won't fall in love with another school in the next year? And if you do get that chance to visit via interview, I think that opportunity is plenty enough. I'd save my money and wait.

I think people are going to hear back today. I think this is it. Let us know if possible (Sorry for being very excited about this school guys).

I'm assuming this is based purely on a gut feeling? I've checked my mail every day since last Monday. I long for the day where I don't have to worry about snail mail anymore. Email or phone call would have been so much easier!

Didn't anyone tell you? We are back in the 90s. Forget being a doctor, time traveler it is.

Emory says acceptances must be returned via fax machine, the telecommunication technology of the future!

Pretty sure that was sarcasm 😉
Indeed it was. For the record, acceptances are supposed to be mailed back using the US postal service, the Pony Express, or carrier pigeons, whichever you deem is fastest.

Judging from how long it's taking, we still have plenty of time to get us a pony

Did you guys get a big scroll delivered to you by a man in a horse-drawn carriage too?

LOLOL this thread is hilarious! I'm hoping for a scroll in a horse drawn carriage (or Moses) any day now...

Do you think that they are just sending it out later this year than planned? Just curious and wishing everybody the best of luck! Lol
