2013-2014 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an II today for Dec. 20th, which is when I let them know I'd be back in town after finals. Really wasn't expecting it! I'm excited, but apprehensive about the group interview. The only other time I've had a group interview, it was for a job at an ice cream store and it didn't go so well.

The group interview... from my experience, is like an individual interview with a few more people listening in. It's nothing too different. You'll be fine. Good luck.

Does this mean you send an in the area letter or that you're originally from GA? Either way--major congrats on the invite!!! Hope it all goes much better than your job interview lol (which I'm sure it will) 🙂

for anyone that was already accepted, how do you pay for them to hold your seat

Would you mind sharing when your secondary was complete?

I'm originally from Georgia. I wrote in the secondary that I'd be back home in GA during Winter break, so I imagine that definitely has something to do with it. Thank you!

And Tuftee, I was complete on September 23rd.

Still eagerly checking my mailbox. Maybe this week. Keeping it positive.
Right there with you! Only three more months of checking my mail until being added to the waitlist. Thankfully then, if I get off the waitlist I'll receive a phone call instead of snail mail.

Who has a strategy for sending Emory updates? I think I'm gonna wait out a few more rounds, then pour my heart out in a single email, updating Emory on all I've done during my gap year and why they should let me in. If that doesn't work, then it wasn't meant to be. Pretty easy to believe I've been forgotten since I interviewed back on 10/4. Since then there have been 100s of new interviewees, so without an update I can't imagine the committee being like "oh yeah, remember this guy? Let's go ahead and let him in now, despite all the amazing applicants that came in last week."

I think the fact that you have even had an interview and have the privilege of waiting for an acceptance says something, because there are still plenty of people that haven't even interviewed or even gotten an ii. All we can do now is wait and continue to remind ourselves that the admissions committee has (allegedly) only met 2 times, with 4 more meetings to go. I think that with each meeting, a larger pool of applicants will be admitted. Here's to staying positive! Best of luck everyone. December 23rd could not come any slower...

"Privilege" isn't the right word ... People earned their interviews. And I say that as someone who doesn't have one yet at Emory.

Well I hope you "earn" yours soon. Semantics aside, I meant to be encouraging and to simply remind people concerned about getting an acceptance or ii that there's still plenty of time.

I can't complain about having to wait a long time since I already met my one goal of the application cycle: get in to a med school. It's much easier to stay positive with an acceptance in my pocket, and I can only imagine the intense stress by people still waiting for interviews and acceptances. Any more interviews or acceptances I get are just a cherry on top of a delicious sundae. That being said, an acceptance to Emory would be the greatest cherry to ever sit upon a sundae.

Hey guys, hope your holiday preparations are going well! I was wondering if anyone who had already had their interview can tell me what time during the day the interviews are held or are they dispersed through out the day? Thank you in advance.

if i remember correctly, we were divided 2 groups. one had it in the morning, the other in the afternoon

Just received a financial aid email implying that I was accepted.

I'm assuming that someone screwed up with the mailing lists..

Yep - someone probably screwed up. I also didn't get an II but got that email.

I don't think it was a mistake. The email says "We are excited to learn of your application for admission!", which doesn't imply acceptance of any kind. My understanding is that many schools encourage all applicants to apply for financial aid, just in case they end up being accepted.

What a scam! I got through it only to realize they wanted like $25 to submit it. I'm not even accepted!!

I feel like these schools are squeezing every cent out of us. There is no reason applicants should have to fill this out. Yes they may become accepted at one point, but this is just about money.

This may have been asked before but, I know emory doesn't accept preinterview updates, does that go for letters of interest as well?

Yep.

Anyways, I got the email too even though I withdrew after getting an interview invite....

same. saturday email....

Also got it. I checked it from my phone, and the sender address was cut off, so I assumed it was from one of the schools that accepted me. Scanned the email for a couple minutes before I realized it was from emory, wtf

Got that email too but after getting that JHU Post-Interview Email, I've learned not to read into other emails from a school other than an actual interview invitation. Still have my fingers crossed though!

+1 I also got the email. Not even a II yet. Hopefully Christmas miracles are real and they will send me one.

Yea I got it too. I don't think it means anything since it seems everyone got it.

I got it too...and i have been up since 6 am waiting for people on sdn to tell me everyone got it and that i'm not special for getting it. #expected

wondering if we are on a special pile of "maybe" or "soon to be interviewed?" am i getting my hopes up for no reason?

Interviewed but not (I mean not yet :luck:) accepted. I got the email.

I remember at interview day they encouraged people to start sending financial aid stuff in as soon as possible, even before hearing about being accepted.

99% sure it means nothing in regard to acceptance/interview status.

Everyone who applies to Emory gets that email. It means absolutely nothing. This was discussed in last year's Emory thread. And it's a waste of money to drop the $25 if you're not accepted. I'd love to have the confidence to believe I'll be accepted soon, but I'm not gonna fill out that financial aid crap for them.

I got the financial aid email too, and I haven't been accepted yet. The email said "we're excited to learn of your application for admission" so I think it's just preemptive.

Gene Parmesan beat me to it; I remember reading about this same email while trolling last year's threads. Not going to fill it out and submit it, but I'm still forever keeping onto (false) hope for an II in the future!!!! Puhleeeeez, Emory!!! I love you, why you no love me back?! Rude. 😛

Oops, I guess I am among the many who were hoping that the fin aid email meant something! Oh well...

Any other MD/PhD applicants in here? I've been complete since 10/14 and have yet to hear anything. Anyone else in the same boat?
Same boat. I wasn't complete until Oct. 30 as an MD/PhD applicant and it's been crickets over here.

Next batch of acceptances letters are going to be sent out tomorrow! some lucky people are going to have a great holiday season.

yeah...to thoes people who got the finacial aid email ...the prelude😀

I also just got the second financial aid email that talked about missing information for the 2014-2015 year (I've interviewed, but haven't been accepted...yet!). Emory's playing with my emotions.
