November - January = Normal
After January = Late

To you all who have interviewed here already,

Does the interview day stretch the entire time until 4:30? I know at a previous interview I had we were excused as soon as our last interview was completed. looking on Georgetown's website, it indicates that our last interview could be at 2:45. So im assuming it would end before 4, are we excused then? or is there some final presentation?

The reason i am inquiring is because i have a flight booked out of reagan DCA that leaves at 6pm . its kind of a close call to get to the airport on time, and any extra cushion for time would ease my nerves about missing the flight (im scheduled to go back to work the next morning at 6am in So -Cal, so i need to catch that flight).

Thanks everyone!!

Also did you attend the optional lecture? what did you think?

Im stoked for my interview on monday!!!🙂

Waiting for a response. I did send thank you notes and am pondering an update letter (not LOI).

Did you send thank you notes to GW? I remember they mentioned we could not directly email our interviewers.

News to me; I emailed a thank you and got a response .. Though really, these things are less to "look good" and more for common courtesy. I doubt anyone checks off a box somewhere when you send a thank you.

You can leave after your interview - just need to check out with admissions before you go. No final presentations, so all just depends when you are called. You won't know who's interviewing you (physician, PhD, or student) until you are called. I believe they also asked at the beginning of the day if anyone specifically needed to leave early for a flight, so just let admissions know and it sounds like they should be able to accommodate you.

You can take the GUTS shuttle to the Metro. There's a Metro stop for Reagan off the yellow line. That way you won't have to deal with crazy DC traffic and rush hour. But I'm not sure how long the Metro would take and I know you California kids just love public transportation!

I attended the optional lecture since they take you after the optional breakfast, which pretty much everyone went to. It was fine - our lecture was on platelets. Since I graduated last year, it was nice to know I could sit in on a lecture without completely going stir-crazy. Also an opportunity for you to scope out a good chunk of the class. Good luck!

Did you send thank you notes to GW? I remember they mentioned we could not directly email our interviewers.

I did - just sent them through the admissions office addressed with my interviewers' names.

I had a flight out of Reagan after my interview and took the public transit route, I think it took ~30 minutes. It's pretty straightforward, just make sure to ask where the GUTS shuttle leaves from.

In my interview day they asked if anyone had an early flight, and then those people were assigned the 2pm interview. So just let them know in the morning. Good luck!

does anyone have the stats from USNWR on acceptance info?

Thanks Guys!

To the people that already had their interviews,

Is there anything we have to turn in before the interview besides a picture of ourselves?

Where did you send thank you letters after the interview? I can't remember if they said to send them to your interviewer or to the admissions office.

is it true that georgetown places the most emphasis on the verbal reasoning skill score?

doubt it, possibly but mine was below 10 and I still got a very early interview invite.

Complete 7/22 and still nothing. Is it time to give up hope?

You had more than 1 interviewer? I thought there was just one.

Nice! Congrats. I've seen you in a few other threads, you are tearing it up. Congrats on all your successes this season!

Only 1 interviewer, who is either a student, faculty member, or clinician.

The part about thank you notes to multiple interviewers was in regard to GW.

II invite today 32 mcat 3.89 cgpa
Congratulations!
My application was complete on Aug. 5th, MCAT 34 (12/11/11), GPA 3.9 , science GPA 3.85, Average EC and research. Still waiting for II

The interviewer i had was excellent! Im so thankful. 🙂

Awesome!! What were you asked??
Some difficult Qs, but mostly to expand more on the why medicine? Why here? What about Gtown? Any specialty choices? The basic interview Qs.
Advice for interview: review your secondary app well, do some research on the school, it's unique programs and opportunities, and you will be fine.

Saw that you don't know your interviewer before casually mentioned in a previous post. Just looking to find out if this is others experience as well and if there is any way to know the specific person or type you may get for the interview before the day of the interview.

Thanks!!!

On the fence about submitting this secondary.

Can anyone speak to why Georgetown leaves out any mention of ECs and background in their "evaluation statement" (In rendering decisions, the Committee evaluates the applicant's entire academic record, performance on the MCAT, college premedical advisory committee evaluations, letters of recommendation, and the personal interview.)

It seems to indicate that they don't take ECs, clinical work, research into consideration- or that it is significantly less important than MCAT/GPA. Am I reading this too literally?

If I had the money, I would submit anyway, but right now, I'm trying to maximize my dollar for the last of my application funds 🙁

EDIT: Just kidding looks like htey care. I'm silly didn't scroll down far enough to see the PDF which goes into more detail. My GPA isn't very competitive still, here's hoping they care about viewing non-trads/post-baccs differently

do you guys think it's too late to submit georgetown secondary?

ermagawd. just finished this secondary.

initially didn't think i would get even semi-close to 5000 characters, but i had to work really hard to get it down to 5000 from 5500+.

i love this school so much by the end of this. really really really really hoping they look past bad undergrad grades/take into consideration a post-bacc in their assessment.

but uh. i love this school. did i say that already? haha

I interviewed in early September, and we were told that the Admission's Office does not even decide who interviews who until about 20 minutes before the interview starts. What with meetings, hospital emergencies, etc, the admission director decides as late as possible in the day, and told us that he chooses interviewers randomly (NOT matching CA native with CA student, or research director with student interested in research).

Hope this helps.

Dear Wizards of SDN,

Y'all make me feel egregiously late to be asking this -- considering the number of interview posts (I'm really happy for yall, and I'm gonna let you finish!--), but I would really appreciate some guidance on this third question from the secondary:
Is there any further information that you would like the Committee on Admissions to be aware of when reviewing your file that you were not able to notate in another section of this or the AMCAS Application?

Do you think it is necessary to come up with something for this? I recognize there are a couple different camps here: Some contending that it's not necessary unless you have some real stuff to say (then my question is, why didn't you mention that elsewhere in your application?), while others see this as a test where the school somehow rates applicants' interest in their school depending on whether they answer these "optional" prompts. Maybe I'm over thinking it, but these camps are in an endless round of jiu jitsu in my PFC at the moment.
Also I am sorry if this was already answered -- I looked, and found zilch from this thread, but if I overlooked it, please just link me.

Please advise, especially those of you making it to interviews (again, congrats, and PLEASE ADVISE)

Thank you SDN, you beautiful anonymous collective of neurotic wisdom and curve-wreckers 😍

I did not treat that prompt as an essay question. Instead I simply listed activities in sentence format that I've planned that I did not list on my primary, such as a new job. "Since submitting my primary application, I have accepted a position....". I got an interview, so I don't think it hurt me. If I didn't have anything to add, I personally wouldn't have written anything.

I left this section blank and received an interview so if you don't have anything else to add no worries. Good luck!

Hey everyone!

Can someone expound on taking the GUTS to campus? I know its at the Rosslyn Metro (I'm assuming just outside the entrance to the Metro). Is there a specific stop for the GUSOM? And how long does it normally take to get from the metro to campus? I don't want to be late!

So excited to be interviewing here soon!

Hey! So I'm an undergrad at gtown now. You have to walk down the street a little bit towards Key Bridge after you get off the metro, past the Mcdonalds to get to the stop.

Here's a little GUTS rossyln map.

http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts/index.cfm?fuse=ross

It takes about 15min for a bus to come and another 15-20 minutes to cross the bridge and get to Gtown if there is no traffic.

The GUTS rosslyn shuttle stops at stop 4 here:
http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts/campugutsstops1208.pdf
and you want to go up to the Med-Dent building and that's pretty much the medical school campus.

Thank you so much for this write up! I will definitely be referring to this on interview day. Seems like a bit of a trek from the bus stop to the med school building, but I'll enjoy checking out the campus!

Hey! I interviewed at Georgetown earlier in September and took the GUTS bus from Rosslyn and it's really not complicated at all. You essentially exit the Rosslyn metro and turn left. The buses also run like every 5 minutes during the morning commute. The trickier part for me was getting to the actual med school, which should be fine as long as you don't follow the Google map instructions blindly and end up in the athletic fields.

Here's the schedule and you can call the GUTS office if you have any issues and they'll help you out: http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts/index.cfm?fuse=ross

How long did it take everyone to get a confirmation email after submitting their secondary? On Sept 14 I got an email saying that I'd receive another email in about 10 business days, confirming that all my materials have been assembled and my application is complete. But I haven't received any further contact.😕

Is this normal? Did anyone else take a long time to receive the confirmation email?
