2013-2014 Morehouse University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who interviewed on 10/4, I called Morehouse this morning to find out when we can expect our admissions decision and I was told: "no later than the end of December."

For the past few years admissions decisions came out during Thanksgiving week. So I still think you should still look out for your letter within the next week. Last batch of letters for the year will usually come out in December, but I think since you guys were the second group to be interview, you guys would be with the first batch of letters. I interviewed on 9/27 , and I've been getting by Thanksgiving for a response from admissions lol

I second everyone else's thoughts and am hoping for notification before t-giving! That would be more in line with the 6 weeks we were told at our date. Guess only time will tell (hoping for the former and not the latter)!

+1 to both of you. I was hoping to cancel some interviews and withdraw some apps :-/

It was about two weeks ago. I hardly doubt they are backed up, because AdCom apparently meets the Monday after Interviews, so a decision was more and likely made a month ago for those who interviewed in October and September. In my opinion, the only reason why they are saying December is 1) they want to mess with our heads and keep the suspense up, and 2) All acceptance decisions, whether you had an early interview in September or a late interview in November, should be in by the end of December. If not, you need to call the admissions office. That's why I said don't throw in the towel for Thanksgiving just yet. There is still a high chance letters will be in within the next two weeks. If not, then the first week of December.

Wow at my interview (October 11th) I was told we would get word by Thanksgiving as well. I'm hoping for some love the week of Thanksgiving so I can cancel some interviews I have set up for early December. I check my mailbox literally everyday hoping for that letter lol

I think for everyone who interviewed early on like in November and October we can still expect letters the week of Thanksgiving. They more than likely stated no latter than December as a precautionary time frame. Pretty much like bfarley24 stated

I am a student at MSM and talked with the important people that do interviews and one of them told me that they will send the acceptances in or around Thanksgivings time.

Thank you so much for that!!!!

Hey all, I'm so glad to hear of some of your successes! I was just wondering why I have yet to receive a secondary app invite, when I submitted my completed primary in August? Should I call them up and find out what's happening?

Yea you definitely should! I finished my app in September and got my secondary in October.

WOW, really? I'm definitely calling them tomorrow then! You think that's a bad sign?
I don't think so. They might've just accidentally skipped over you. I think everybody gets a secondary from morehouse. I could be wrong though

Hey everyone! I received my acceptance in the mail yesterday!!! Submitted my secondary early September and interviewed October 11th. I'm sure that many will find out soon. It's just on the way in the mail. Best of luck to everyone!

Congrats!!! That's exciting. How far away from GA are you?

Thanks! I live in the Metro-Atlanta area, so the mail didn't have to travel far.
Very nice! I'm just the next state over so hopefully my decision won't take too long, either. Hope I receive some good news like you 😀

I spoke too soon. Just received this e-mail...Any insight, guys? Kind of like a wait-list but not really? Interviewed 10/04. OOS.

Dear Applicant:

The Committee on Admissions of Morehouse School of Medicine has met and completed its initial review of your application. Your application is still under consideration for the 2014 entering class as no final decision has been reached. Once a final decision is made regarding your application you will be promptly notified.

The Office of Admissions will continually update you on your status by either email or postal mail that you have listed on AMCAS. I regret that I cannot predict which candidate will be selected by the Committee on Admissions, as all interviewed candidates are considered for possible inclusion in the class.

Please help us to keep your application up to date by informing us of your recent grades and/or other accomplishments not already recorded in your file. If you have any questions/concerns feel free to contact Brandon Hunter at [email protected] or 404-752-1760.

Sincerely,

Ngozi F. Anachebe, Pharm.D, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

I just received that same email this morning, have to admit it is a bit depressing, for me atleast.

Ditto Seifu. Congrats to everyone who receives acceptances 🙂

Congratulations we interviewed the same day, unfortunately I have not received an acceptance yet, I received an email stating a decision has not been made yet.

Anybody know if Morehouse does straight out rejections, or do they only do acceptance and then the e-mail?

They do acceptance, wait list, and rejection
According to last year's thread, looks like rejections come later on in the cycle and that for now it is acceptance/wait list e-mail (which I wish was a little less ambiguous, but that's just me). Best of luck to everyone and congrats to the recent acceptances! Hope all us e-mail people get acceptances in the future lol.

Have they only done post-interview rejections or does anybody know if they've rejected anybody before getting an interview?
As far as I know, nobody's posted about a pre-interview reject so far. I suspect those will begin going out in December. Nobody has been rejected post-interview yet, either, (at least, not on SDN)...just those of us who received the waitlist-esque e-mail, which could go either way. Best of luck to you!

Don't be! I wasn't pleased to see it either. Update them and cross your fingers for the best! Remember their class size is 70; they can't over-accept. There is still plenty of hope! GL to you!!

I just received a pre-interview rejection email this morning:

Should I contact Brandon and ask what I can do to improve my chances next time? Is he someone who will be receptive to my questions/concerns? Thoughts? Congrats to all who have received an acceptance! 🙂

Sorry to hear that 🙁. Just wanted to know whether or not to expect rejections now or at the end of the cycle. Yea, you should. Just wait until the end of the application cycle first to check on that. You'll get in somewhere and then it won't matter!!! 😀

You should definitely call Mr. Hunter! He's very nice, and I'm pretty sure he will answer all your questions on how to make your application stronger! Don't let this get you down (which I know its hard not to), but think of this as a great experience! Just keep pushing forward, and I guarantee you'll be at your goal in no time!

This!

Congrats to everyone who received an acceptance! And to those who have received an email, keep your chin up! Stay persistent, and continue to let MSM know that you're still very interested in their school. I still haven't received anything yet, but I'm hoping for some good news today or tomorrow lol. I'll continue to pray for each and everyone of you guys! Stay strong!

That's the thing, they never sent me a secondary. So my application must've been extremely subpar to not have been invited to complete one. :-/
