2013-2014 Rush Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Alright so now the duplicates are gone, but the secondary still is not marked complete (I have the red exclamation point sign next to both my letter status and complete status on the main status page). Anyone else wondering about this?

SAME!! Seems like we're one step closer 🙂 (still really annoyed)

I noticed that too. Did you ever work more hours, maybe during the summer? I clicked it because all averaged out, I think 20 hours was probably a fair assessment.

I did, but I didn't average it with my summer work hours it asked only about the academic year, excluding summers. I sent them an email about it though.

Scanned copy of my birth certificate. Wow, I've always wanted my identity to be stolen.

I thought the EXACT same thing. I have the photo of my birth certificate on my iPhone. Too bad Obama never applied to Rush, he could have avoided that headline haha

So... my duplicate letter entries were removed.

However, my letters are marked as received (date received also listed), but there is still a red exclamation point next to them and it still isn't marked as complete. What is going on?

Same deal

Reading this thread makes me happy that my letters were all sent as a packet through virtual evals. Lol. Submitted! Let the waiting begin.

Does anyone know if the secondary character limit includes spaces or doesn't include spaces?

Anyone that was having LOR issues get marked complete yet? I'm still waiting on this one

Great. Finish my essays, move on to the citizenship page and can't find my birth certificate. Even my wife couldn't find it and she can find almost anything in our house. So I pulled out my passport and remembered that in my passport photo I look like a serial killer. Worst picture ever. No way I could send that in so I wait a week for a new birth certificate, lol.

Haha this totally made me laugh 🙂 I'm surprised they let you through airport security

LOR issue finally resolved! Kinda mad that I should have been complete on the 3rd, but whatever. All green check marks 🙂

1. Describe personal attributes you possess or life experiences you have had that will enable you to better understand patients with a culture different from your own. Please include your self-reflection on how this experience has changed insights, beliefs, and/or values. (1000 characters)

2. Identify community service activities in which you have participated in during the last five years.
Check all that apply.

3. Identify research in which you have been involved:

4. Identify your healthcare-related experience(s):

Question 1 is the only real essay, the rest are checking boxes that apply.
Grrr...
On the strength of this post and my blind trust in SDN, I decided to add Rush to my list. Just one short essay that 20 other schools requested, Easy.
Then this beast drops down if you've had the misfortune of being involved in community service. No good deed goes unpunished...

2b. Based on these experiences, please describe what you learned through your involvement, the attributes you would bring to Rush Medical College, and the impact you would have on the greater Rush Community (2000 characters).

Now, waste $35 or half a day writing...?

hey guys i just got verified and got rush's app. I have a question regarding the research. You know how there is a section called research activity with some boxes that say: Abstracts, conference presentations..etc. Im involved in research and I think I might get published or do this other stuff down the road, but as of right now not really close to that yet, so what should I do? I think I should at least mark publication, but I don't actually have one yet so Im confused. Any help is appreciated.

Check the box at your own risk, or call the admissions office. My interpretation was that this is not a section to report theoretical future achievements that are "not really close". That or I missed the chance to report my theoretical future Nobel Prize.

Anywho - do you have authorship on a publication currently accepted by a journal, in press, or already in print? If yes, then check the "publication" box. Otherwise, in my opinion, don't click it. You may jeopardize their assumption of your ability to accurately and realistically self-report your achievements on the rest of your application.

+1

I am fairly certain I'll have two future publications, but I'm not listing them anywhere until they actually happen. I think that's the expectation from most schools.

when i click on status it says application is complete, however if i click on secondary application the icon next to 'application submit' is red. is this just a bug?

Does anyone know what they mean by "greater Rush community?"
In addition to the school's other programs, it also means how will you make an impact outside of Rush. What will you do for the local communities of Chicago, how will you use your skills other than just studying all the time? Hope this helps.

Thanks mttamgirl.🙂 I figured this is what they meant but it's nice to get a confirmation.

Never received Rush Secondary. Do they screen for OOS? 3.5 GPA, 35 MCAT, I don't think it's my numbers holding me back.

I emailed them a while back. Their minimum requirements are much lower than your numbers so you should get it eventually.

Thankfully, I am not the only one here.

OOS/3.8/31 no secondary so far.

Does anyone here know if we can send more than the two required individual letters? I don't have a committee letter and I'm planning to send Rush four individual LORs.

They do not accept more than 2. Anything else that you send beyond the two you identify will not be considered and it will resonate badly with them, not following directions...

I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Did you guys include shadowing under medical related experience?

If so did you put Shadowing or the place where you shadowed for Institution name?

I sent like 4.

Does anyone know when Rush will start sending out II?

M1 here starting orientation tomorrow, just wanted to say GOOD LUCK! This is a long and tormenting process, hang in there!

Rush uses holistic approach to select their students. Just looking at my classmates, most people have something unique to bring to the table. And if you have avg numbers, don't worry, it's the personalities and other attributes that really matter in the end. Also, during interview day and second look day, we all noticed that the students look so happy, it's weird, almost surreal. lol.

I have no checkboxes on my app for LOR, did I need to send them over from AMCAS first?
