2013-2014 Rutgers University - Robert Wood Johnson Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep I got one a few days after I emailed. Maybe you should try calling?

Congrats on the interview invite!

Do you know when your app was complete and when you got the invite? I submitted my AMCAS a bit late, and so, they emailed me that my application was completed on 7/16.

Thanks a lot! I'm just wondering so I don't start freaking out later lol

Hehe I'm a she! And no, nothing yet. I got my complete email on the 14th so I'm sure we'll hear something around the same time. Good luck!

Can someone post the secondary link and/or post the secondary questions up here please

hey a quick question for the second secondary question:
2. If your education has not been continuous, please provide information to explain the gap(s) by providing a line by line description to explain by month/year to month/year.

I am taking a gap year between undergraduate and med school, does it count as my education being not continuous? Should I write about my plans for this year??

thanksss!!!

I assumed this question is meant for people who had interruptions during college or during a graduate degree, not for non-traditional students taking time away from academics. Does anyone else know?

So #7 essentially requires us to write 7 separate paragraphs, one for each of the preprofessional competencies they've listed?

Completed this secondary about a week ago and I am very excited. Hopefully they are willing to take my stats.

Hoping they take students from Rutgers into higher consideration since their recent merger. Got a 3.3 GPA, but a 4.0 at Rutgers. Also a 29 MCAT (10B 9V 10P) which is within their range, but unfortunately towards the bottom of their numbers.

did everyone here who got secondaries get verified first? the secondaries were pouring in towards the end of the month but stopped two weeks ago. don't really know what to think.

Hello, fellow Rutgers grad! I think, unfortunately, we are in the same boat as everyone else. Never heard anything about Rutgers favoring their own grads (though NJ residents are at an enormous advantage, but you probably knew that). Best of luck!

yay got an invite for an interview here!! jersey resident.. app was complete 7/25. They give 3 dates for the first block of interviews. SUPER excited

For some reason, this thread keeps showing up in the "Threaded" display format, even when I've gone and changed my settings. Anyone know why, and how to get rid of it?

If I am thinking correctly as to what you're describing.... I think at the top of the forum page, there should be the title of the forum. It should be clickable, then click it. Then, the normal screens should appear

I might not be picturing the "threaded" display format correctly though

interview invite today! in case anyone is anxious bout their status, my app was completed 7/16 and the date I asked for was 9/16

yay congrats to you too!! I asked for 9/16 as well. see you there!

Congrats guys! Feel like sharing your stats?

were you guys ED or just regular?

I do not believe Robert Wood offers ED right? I know NJMS does though. So I am assuming these are the first true interview invites for the general application pool.

ya np. IS, 34, 3.88. i got a few friends with both higher and lower stats who were verified before me but haven't got invites yet. But, i'm sure all of you will get them soon!

to the best of my knowledge, I think what you said about ED is right.
These could have been the first invites, but not sure. The dates in the email they gave me for interviews had 9/16, 10/14, and 10/28.

Hey guys,
This is one of my first posts, so I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong spot. My question is in regards to #7 of the secondary app.

In the next series of questions, you will reflect upon experiences, activities or accomplishments that demonstrate each of these pre-professional competencies. Your responses will be limited to one paragraph and will include:

The situation where you demonstrated the competency
Your actions and resulting consequence
What you learned as a result
Pre-professional Competencies
Integrity and Ethics
Reliability and Dependability
Desire to Learn
Service Orientation
Social Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills
Cultural Competence
Resilience and Adaptability

I called the admissions office and they said to only write one paragraph with all those attributes in it. I am really having a hard time figuring out a situation that encompasses everything. Anyone else with similar problems?

What do you mean a situation that encompasses everything? They want seven separate paragraphs that each address one of those items. None of mine were about the same situation.

+1

Exactly how I interpreted it. Of course you can use the same situation for a few of them but focus on what experiences you have had that really encompass each one.

Im not sure how to approach the mcat question. Do they want us to go into detail of what type of course we took/ what type of books we studied from? What is the purpose of that question?

Was kinda a difficult question for me too because I was over thinking it. I eventually settled on a quick concise answer. I do not believe I used the entire space because I did not think the question required it.

Example:
I studied by taking a Kaplan/Princeton Review/etc course x months prior to the test date. I also bought the x/y/z book and used their practice exams on the weekends during my fall semester. ETC, ETC.

At least that was how I interpreted it. Again there are so many different ways of studying for the MCAT so it would be specific to how you did it.

Hope that helps a bit.

I took a similar approach. I think my answer was two sentences.

For those of you who don't have any connections, family, etc... to NJ. How did you go about answering question number 4-- 'If you applied as a non-resident (other than NJ), please let us know if you grew up in NJ, attended school in NJ, have parents who reside in NJ, work in NJ, etc.'

Not sure if I should just leave it blank or write a 'why RWJMS' response.

So, I live in NJ, but I've had questions like this for other schools. I don't think it is a "why RWJMS" type of question, but instead, they want to know if you have ties to the state because it is a public/state-funded school for NJ. So, for those schools I applied to, I just said I have no ties because I truthfully had no ties lol. I know people who have applied like me, who have got interview invites to schools which have a high IS enrollment according to msar like rwj does.

Hey everyone,
Did everyone receive their secondary as a word document attachment with text boxes for where the response should go? Even though the question prompts do not have a word/character limit, when I write too much, it doesn't show up in the 'box'... Also my pre-'professional competencies' part doesn't have a text box. Am I at liberty to insert my own text box/increase the size of the text boxes? Just wondering what everyone did... Thanks guys! 🙂🙂🙂

SORRY I just read some of the earlier posts and saw that some have stuck to the text box limit and some have expanded the box... My question still stands but I suppose I need to ask the admissions office about this.

You can definitely ask the admissions office, but I believe the boxes are there to restrict your word count. Good Luck!

I just decreased my font size down one point. I didn't write THAT much to begin with but it helped to squeeze in that last line or two.

Hi fellow lucky interviewees. What are you doing to prepare for MMIs? I was thinking of reading up on some medical ethics and health policy. Maybe some mock interviews as well.

how long after you emailed back the application until you received a "complete" email?

hey guys. interviewing here on Monday. can anyone who already had their MMI shed some light on their experiences? what type of stuff were you asked? what did you think about the process? did you think you had enough time to answer the way you wanted to? how did you prepare yourself?

There are extensive interview feedback sections of this site that should help you.

Just be yourself:luck:

Hi everyone,

I was complete at RWJMS on 8/16, but I haven't heard anything from them. This is arguably my top choice and would love to know if this is common?

I am a CA resident with 3.66 cum gpa, 3.58 sci gpa and 31 MCAT what are my chances here?

your MCAT score is RWJ's average, good GPAs, kind of hard to give you a definite answer. they do take OOS from CA. there were 1 or 2 there the day I interviewed.
