2013-2014 Texas A&M Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If anyone going to the Temple campus second look wants to meet up for dinner tonight, I'd be down. Or if anyone knows a good restaurant in town, a recommendation would be appreciated.

Anybody wanna comment on the information presented during second look?

Sure, but I'll admit I'm already biased towards the Temple campus and will be matriculating there in the summer. If you interviewed at Temple, it was mostly the same presentation, the only difference being a longer tour of Scott and White and a tour of the simulation center, which is located off campus. The simulation center was impressive, much larger than I expected, and is located about 5 minutes from the hospital. There were many MS3's doing simulations when we toured.

I also had the opportunity to speak with a few MS1/2's, with one taking me to grab coffee after the second look. They are very happy with their choice. Many are non-traditional. As I've posted earlier, after the tours and speaking with students/friends who are at both campuses, I believe that Temple provides the better opportunity to advance your career, especially if you plan on going into a competitive specialty. Shadowing/Research opportunities are greatly encouraged and welcomed by the physicians at S&W; makes sense, it's a teaching hospitial.

I can't see them not having something for those who match. Both campuses want to grab students for their own. They said the official breakdown for this next class is 130 CS/70 Temple. One of the statistics that they gave that those waiting for match might be interested in is there are currently 211 students holding a spot at A&M, with 200 spots available. GPA of 3.7 and MCAT of 31.3. I'm sure quite a few spots will open up during the match process. Good luck, guys!

I'm sorry. I didn't quite understand. With 211 students already holding a spot, and only 200 spots available, HOW can we be optimistic that "quite a few spots will open up during the match process"? Do you mean to say that some people will withdraw their held spot because they prefer another school as their first choice?
I'm pretty sure that's what he/she meant. It happens at every school

He, and yes, from years past there seems to be movement.

Have there been any OOS acceptances already? I just wasn't sure if they generally wait until after the match for their OOS acceptances, or if they give out acceptances as they interview.

I did meet a few OOS students at the luncheon in CS. It's hard to recall at the moment but I believe one of the figures in the slide-show presentation at the Temple second look broke down our "current" class. I think ~6-7% of the 211 students currently holding a pre-match offer were OOS.

oh okay. Thanks!

Last year A&M accepted most of the people they interviewed (I think it was like 70%). Since they've already rejected some interviewers, I would assume if anything, many people will match here if not anywhere else.

Hi everyone,

I was offered first choice of campus designation, and I'm having trouble making up my mind. Specifically, I'm wondering what it's like being a student in Round Rock or Dallas. BUMC in Dallas is a huge institution and Round Rock seems like a patchwork of clinical affiliates so do most people lose contact with their classmates as they do their rotations? Do you stay in contact with the COM by meeting with an advisor in the area to touch base now and then? Thanks in advance to anyone who has insight into this.

I can't speak about Dallas, but I do have a friend that chose the CS/RR route. He said that it was difficult "starting over" after two years of being with his classmates in College Station. I'm not sure if there is an advisor that you stay in touch with, but I would think that you would have some sort of contact in CS still. My question to you would be how you were offered first choice of campus? Did someone contact you via email? My assumption was that everyone, after Feb 3rd, sent their campus preferences.

Hmmm...What's the upside to being in Round Rock rather than Temple or CS? (other than being closer to Austin)

About a week after my prematch offer I received an email for "Scholarship Campus Designation", which amounts to first dibs on campus preference.

He said that the clinical training is not as demanding as Temple or CS. His reasoning was he wanted to be closer to Austin because of family, and perhaps get connections for residency.

CHECK YOUR BAMF LOGIN!!!!

Decisions were posted as I logged in randomly to check today. Someone else confirm before they change it back.

Status changed from "INTERVIEWED" to "ACCEPTED"!!!!! I wonder if this is where I matched! Truly hope this isn't a glitch in their system.

Wow... I read elsewhere that the schools know match results about a week ahead of time. This is all pending the results of the official match, so don't get too carried away yet, but I'm pretty sure congratulations are in order!

mm... mine says under review... wonder what that means 🙁
There's no reason to worry yet. The school may not have updated all matched applicants' BAMF pages yet (and they might not until/after the match). Or, you may be matched to a higher-ranked school and auto-withdrawn from A&M. It's still way too early to tell, just sit tight and keep calm until 2/3/14

Congrats, everyone. If it still says under review, I wouldn't look into too much. Relax and wait till match day.

changed from interviewed to under review...

On last year's thread some people posted their statuses changed from interviewed to under review and still got accepted during match. I don't know if there is a correlation but I do hope you get in through the match or match somewhere higher.

No one in the past posted anything about their status changing from 'interviewed' to 'accepted' so I shall be cautious about my status until it's confirmed on match day.

Accepted here as well!! I really really hope it is true! Does everyone who has the accepted status see a congratulatory message from Vanessa on bamf as well??

Congrats! Mine had the message from Vanessa as well. Did you receive the email? I did not so I assumed we won't get that until match day?

My BAMF does not have a status tab. It only shows me outstanding assignments and and completed assignments. Should I contact the admissions office and ask them why I don't see a status page?

The status and message was found on the same page as the outstanding assignments/completed assignments. What does it say on your page right before the assignment listing?

I have not received an email but I'm looking forward to it! Congrats to you too

mine says 'under review' and 'We are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2014 entry term.'

It looks like A&M realized the release was an accident. They changed it back to what it was before.

Mine went from: "Interviewed -> Accepted -> Interviewed"

Anyone else who got accepted have theirs change back too?

This is all I see.

We are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2014 entry term.
This is your Banner Admissions Management Framework homepage. This system will help track your progress through the College of Medicine admissions program at the Texas A&M Health Science Center. From your homepage, you can see any messages that your admissions office has configured for you (such as this one), as well as any forms that you need to fill out.

I did not see any status or message after my interview, too. Is everyone seeing the status but me?

That's so weird. Some people got post interview 'rejection' emails but I do not know if that's indicative of that status.

Mine is back to 'Interviewed' but DOES NOT say "we are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2014 entry term," it just says "interviewed"

Hi,
My status changed from "Accepted" to "Interviewed" today. Is this a glitch in the system, as in they made a mistake? Or is it because they accidentally leaked out the CORRECT information earlier than they were supposed to?
Thank you for any help.

Wondering the same thing; mine was "Accepted" until about 45 minutes ago and now it is "Interviewed".

Dang! Missed the window to check my BAMF haha! Mine says "interviewed"

Last year, my status went from interviewed to accepted to interviewed before match day.

i was accepted, so I don't like to get people's hopes up too much, but I would take it as a positive sign...

Anyone you know of that got the "accepted" status of BAMF that did not match?

I'm asking around but so far for my year none had any BAMF acceptances before match..I'm in second year tho so I'll try to ask some 1st years this weekend..

My fingers are crossed for y'all on Monday!

Damn it! I stopped checking the school specific forums because I didn't think there was a point! Looks like I missed out on Wednesday

Did everyone who's status changed to Accepted go back to Interviewed? Or did anyone change to to Under Review?
