2013-2014 Texas Tech - Lubbock Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you guys get an email from Lubbock about your application being complete or one that acknowledges them receiving it? With all these emails problems I feel like contacting them just to be sure.

Shouldn't the secondary give you a green check if you're complete.

I would assume that's all you need

Yea the green check is there it's just that El Paso did send an application received email when they got the primary. Was just wondering if Lubbock did the same.

Hmm. Just checked my email. Mine was transmitted in early June. Got an email for El Paso but nothing from Lubbock. I'm assuming they don't send anything

I was transmitted a week and a half ago but haven't received anything from El Paso. Might have to email them tomorrow

So, I just scheduled my interview for 8/28!

I decided to drive 14 hours to come, this will save me about $300 in airfare.

Are you going to El Paso for interview at similar time?

The Application Review Status page has changed three times during the past three days.

1. YOU HAVE NO STATUS
2. NO STATUS
3. Your current status is: "No Status" followed by two new sections: "Admission Requirements" and "Program Requirements"

Ah! I hate reading into these things! I know it means nothing, but makes you wonder if the changes reflect their peek into your secondary.

Sorry that I don't have the answer but I do have the same page. Mine says something strange like ACT/SAT on that page too. Who knows. I know there are people who have the no status found page even after receiving an II so I wouldn't worry.

I see the HS stuff. Maybe cause I applied back then to TTU Lubbock for college.

Tcom also has high school info probably from applying to UNT. But under Tcom is says complete

El Paso people do not go to Lubbock for interviews?

Who is interviewing on Wednesday, August 28 with me?

No they are two separate medical schools.
Ah, I think I got the impression because of classmates that went to Temple all interviewed at A&M, and that when I went to Tech last year, a girl from my class was in Lubbock as well and she ended up going to PLFSoM

I have seen these exact changes also. I wonder if it could mean they're actually reviewing our apps now, of if it's just some weird system-wide change for everyone.

The night before the interview is there any activities?

I interviewed here this weekend and it was great! The facilities are extremely nice.

Just interviewed her yesterday.

When I heard about Lubbock being placed in the lower tier of schools by a lot of the people on SDN, I was skeptical at first. But this school is amazing.

Pros:
-Med School Facilities are great!
-Its located right next to the undergrad, so you get access to their facilities for free!
-Block Curriculum is very laid back ( 1-2 classes at a time )
-No traffic
-Super cheap cost of living

Cons:
-Lubbock is very far from every other city in Texas.
-Not AS MUCH to do there vs Dallas/Houston/SA
- You cant be sure of which campus you will be assigned to when you matriculate.

What girl were you interviewing?

I interviewed here yesterday as well, and I was also pleasantly surprised with mostly everything about the school. I second everything that Gandalf has said here.

The best and most appealing aspect of the school is the fact that the students seemed more relaxed and laid back than other schools. I felt that this was due to the block curriculum. With this being said, the students still seem to perform well on boards, one of the students I talked to scored 250+ and he said he knew of a lot of students that performed well.

Oh and Gandalf, you bailed early? I didin't see you after the interviews?

Yea my interview finished at 245. And I didn't think there was a point to wait for the student panel at 4 if all they were going to do was answer questions. saved me a good 2 hours that I used to shorten my drive time back home.

How was the panel?

The panel was great, and confirmed that the students really enjoy the curriculum. None of the students had any real complaints about the school.

Did those who already interviewed/got an interview invite apply for the Family Medicine Accelerated Track?

I'm an MS1 here, and I think you are probably right about the schedule.
Another thing that makes me feel less stressed is how helpful classmates and MS2s are, not to mention the faculty. People share so many resources that you will never get to all of them; I have to check our FB group multiple times a day so as not to miss anything useful. Socially, people here are very friendly also. There are constantly dinners, outings, sports games, etc. Having a life outside of school is encouraged.
All of this together combines to make a cohesive class. I think a more competitive spirit would take away from my med school experience.

I have this paranoia that they are taking last year's interviews with them and using that in evaluating if I should come in to interview again...TTUHSC was the first school I ever interviewed at, and my interviews flew like a lead zeppelin :|

Interview Invite today!!! First one for the season, so excited 😀

Stats: OOS, 3.7 from a top 20 LAC, 35 MCAT.

II earlier this week!

Transmitted early August.

Haven't heard anything from Lubbock yet but today I thought to check merlin and where I use to have Applicant Status/Interview Scheduling/Admissions Offer I now do not have the applicant status link. Who knows if it means anything considering it use to say No Status Found which didn't mean anything either.

Mine has the same thing... I doubt it's really anything to worry about.

I just checked today too and I have the same thing. The thing is though, this happened for my El Paso app also. I was freaking out so I emailed them and found out that I got an II! Let's hope this time that means the same thing...

I had the same scenario play out. Hopefully, it plays out the same way for the others!

We can hope. Interestingly I never had that link next to el paso at all so who knows. Oh well back to the silence.

My Merlin page has changed too, but I interviewed a month ago. Waiting to hear this week for Early Admission and FMAT!

From what did your page change to? I'm getting all anxious now waiting to get an email about possibly receiving an II...

Dang it, I just noticed mine changed in the same way ya'll are describing... I was holding out hope it just meant we all had an II on the way, but since someone who's already interviewed just had their portal change too, it probably means nothing. Sad day.
