For those who haven't seen their email yet today:
Dear UB Med Wait List Candidate,
On Tuesday, July 1st, we will begin filling any/all openings in our 2014 Freshman Medical Class by DIRECT PHONE CALL to the next candidate, and if "LIVE" contact is not made with you or one of your designees after using all your available phone nos., we must continue to proceed down the wait list to the next highest ranked candidate.
IT IS IMPERATIVE that you advise us by email of all DAYTIME phone numbers (as many as you want to provide us - more the better) where you and your designees (parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc.) can be reached in person. We CANNOT leave ANY offer of acceptance on an answering machine or voice message system. If our phone call of acceptance is in the morning, YOU would have until 4:00 p.m. EDT to call us back with your FINAL decision. If our phone call is in the afternoon, YOU would have until 9:00 a.m. EDT the next morning to get back to us.
If you are accepted to another Medical School and NO LONGER wish to remain on our wait list, it would be courteous to advise us RIGHT AWAY. Candidates on Wait Lists would deeply appreciate it.

I would say yes, but no one knows
Last year at this point a friend of mine was still wait-listed at UB when he got the "direct call acceptances" email. He was accepted in mid July and just finished his first year. At this stage they are probably well into the middle third but I am sure they will still accept a few people before everything starts.
My advice is not to count on getting in but not to despair either; it's a really hard thing to do since you've been waiting this whole cycle. At least know that you won't have to wait too long now as the class will be full by mid August.
I was in your shoes last year; interviewed in January, was ranked in the bottom third (mostly due to MCAT scores) and waited until August when their official "class is full and we won't be accepting anymore people" email got sent. It's heart-breaking I know, but I got involved with some research, re-took the MCAT, got to work with some mentors and had a year away from school and then interviewed and was accepted this year. Long story short; if you were good enough to be wait-listed, you are good enough to attend. Worst case scenario it costs you am extra year of applications and scientific work but it pays off.
Here's hoping that the remaining spots go out to you guys and that we get to go to UB together. 🙂

They are most likely full and will only call people if someone drops out last minute.

I wonder what the odds are of buffalo granting me another interview
Orientation just finished and Mr. Rosso told us that this year they had a much lower turnover rate than previous years. In fact he said that there are a lot of very qualified and desirable students on the wait list that he feels bad won't get in this year. I would absolutley reapply if I were you guys; I did last year and was accepted. Make sure you do all sorts of activities to boost your cv. They really want students from a wide variety of backgrounds and walks of life, so stress what makes you uniue but also why you are qualified to be a med student.
One last piece of advice I'll give you is to keep reading, learning and challenging yourselves in your year off. The pace and volume of information they teach you and expect you to know on day 1 is imposing and for someone who took a year off from school it's a real kick to the face.
