2013-2014 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks I see it now. Its all a matter of booking a flight now. Any word on if that 6-7 hour day is true, as in does the interview day conclude at 5:00 and I should plan my return flight accordingly or is that kind of a rough estimate? Any insight would be appreciated, I'm trying to save as much money as I possibly can.

For me, I was done way earlier than that. Like 2-ish? But I can't guarantee anything. We had interviews over by 12, then we went to lunch and the tour.

Apparently the friday sessions end earlier than the Mon/Wed sessions, did you interview on a Friday Mondo?

I had a Monday interview and my text records show I was done right around 4:30 👍

Damn, looks like I'm gonna have to book a red eye flight then. thanks for all your help guys

I just got invited to interview! First one! I'm applyinh late my date is dec 6 will anyone else be interviewing that day? Share hotel?

Hi all, first time SDNer here. Interviewed 9/18 and was accepted 10/24, wondering if anyone knows when we're supposed to receive our HawkID information?

Another minutiae question: is the "Accept Offer" button on the Decision page a "Thanks Iowa! You're on my list now!" or an "Iowa, I choose you!" button?

Did you apply to Iowa for undergrad? If so it's the same HawkID and password assigned then, even if you didn't attend the school, stupid I know. Had to call their help line for the HawkID to reset the password.

I interpreted as "I choose you, Iowa, but till May 15th can hold multiple acceptances, so it is a non-binding choice". Something like that 😀.

I didn't. Strange! I guess I will just have to wait until I get more in the mail/email.

That's how I took it too. The fact that Carver doesn't require a deposit to hold a spot is great!

So true. Another awesome thing about Carver! 🙂

Can anyone comment on whether Iowa does silent rejections? I have been complete since early Sept. and am trying to gauge whether I still have a shot here.

For anyone that stayed with a host, was that one day thing a hard fast rule or would we be able to find a host for two days? I only say this was because I found a cheap flight for the day after my interview which would mean I need to stay two nights. I guess I could always stay one night with a host and the other night in a hotel but I'm hoping to find an accommodating host.

What day is your interview?

the 18th, and just got word that I can only get one day with a host. So I'll be figuring out what I'm gonna do on night two. Man, didn't think it was gonna be this much of a hassle :depressed:

You guys posting and giving me notifications on this thread is giving me a heart attack. Seen decisions up until 10/14, I interviewed 10/18. :scared::scared::scared:

You may be waiting a long time. Peeps from mid Oct were getting acceptances through Dec last year. There doesn't seem to be an established order of when they look at apps.

Sigh. At least if I get passed over, then I won't freak out knowing this. Thanks?

this thread has been real silent for a while. hopefully they start sending out some more decisions soon

Yeah, I was hoping to hear back today... It's officially been 4 weeks for me!

5 weeks for me, when I interviewed it didn't really sound like they had a super strict review timeline though

Yeah, I spoke with a student that I stayed with and was told that there's a big batch of acceptances in January and March. Although there have been a few here and there on SDN.

Hi guys! Thought I'd make a post since I haven't seen any updates from the Oct 16th interview date yet. My review/turnaround time was just under three weeks and I got my acceptance on Nov 5th. Good luck to everyone still waiting! Oh, also, I'm an OOS applicant, but I did my undergrad at ISU.

Does Iowa do silent rejections? Been complete for a few months but haven't heard anything. Would love to get an interview here!

Has anyone who's been accepted gotten their HawkID, and if yes, did you receive it via email/snail mail? Thanks! 🙂

i went for my interview this week and the admissions officer said they are behind on applications this year due to amcas being behind. So I am sure thats a reason why people are not hearing back quickly. Not to mention the admissions dean or officer is going to have a surgery soon so that will also stall interview acceptances as well.

Although it'll take a long time to hear back, I'm really looking forward to checking out Iowa on the 6th! Good to know not to expect an answer for a while though. I've been trying not to panic about the application process.

Anyone know how Iowa feels about update letters pre interview? Also, do they do all of their rejections at the end of the season?

In the secondary app, there is a place to enter updates. They allow 3 updates, I believe. You can enter updates at anytime.

Accepted today as OOS. E-mail came in about an hour ago, interviewed 10/23. Loved the school, definitely a top choice!

Hey,, Jennyfishy! I see you all over the place. Congrats on an acceptance!!

Hahah, likewise! We have a lot of school overlaps :woot:

Hopefully you find some love at a few of your many interview invites! 😀:luck::luck:

Honors/Pass/Fail, I think.

We do Honors, Near Honors, pass, fail. They try to have about 30% of the class get honors/high pass in every class. Overall though everyone in the class realizes that preclinical grades really don't matter too much to residency program directors. The people that do really go for honors seem to use it as a personal motivation for themselves, and not in a gunner sort of way.

Withdrew on Tuesday from my interview date (later in Dec.) due to another acceptance. Hope one of you gets it!

Is there still hope applicants who were complete in July? When do they generally start sending out pre-interview rejections and when do their interview season end?

I was OOS complete in July and got an II in November. You never know. Keep your head up!
