Wondering when they're gonna get to my interview date for post interview decisions.... :scared:

+1, I interviewed Nov. 10th, believe they said we would be hearing from them starting in early Jan...Hopefully hear something in the next couple of days.

So what did you guys do in order to receive all of these scholarships?! Any info would be awesome, I'm looking at FAFSA stuff now but it seems I may have missed out on some merit scholarships.

Also would like to see if there is somewhere for people who are accepted and plan on going to Carver this upcoming fall.

oh FYI

Interviewed 10/7, accepted 10/24

I only just submitted my FAFSA, so I think it's just based on your application. I don't know if they're offering these chronologically so I'm not sure if it's helpful at all, but I interviewed on 10/14 and was accepted on 11/5.

Congrats to everyone already accepted! To those of you still waiting for decisions, hang in there, I know it can be tough.

I'm a current M3 looking for roommates starting in July 2014 and beyond. I live in a cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house with a large basement as possible extra bedroom. Perks include free backyard parking, washer/dryer on-site, and use of my piano! The house is conveniently located about 10-15 minute walk to the hospital in a quiet, residential neighborhood. PM me if you're interested for more information.

Hope to see you all in Iowa City as the class of 2018!

Anybody interviewing next week? Also, how closed file is the interview? My last closed file interview two months ago, the very first question they asked was "Okay, what's your gpa and mcat then?" while writing it down on their notepad. 😵

I will be in town on Wednesday for an interview. From what I have heard, the interview is relatively low stress, so I am not too worried about it. I am more looking forward to seeing what the school has to offer.

Same here, so hopefully that's the case! Very excited to see the school. I wonder if these coming interviews are still considered rolling admissions or will all be considered in the Final Pool.

I wonder if the adcoms have already been notifying people of being final-pooled. I'm surprised that nobody has said anything yet. And yeah there better be some good news in the thread this coming Tuesday!

why tuesday?

why tuesday?
I was always under the impression that they meet on Tuesday and send out acceptance emails at around 2:30. Apparently that's not always the case though because a few posts back somebody mentioned being accepted on 10/24 which was a Thursday...in other words, I don't know anymore lol

I interviewed way back on Oct 25 and haven't heard anything since! I've been updating them like crazy! Anyone else in the same boat? Almost 3 months and I'm dying here!

Glad to see I'm not the only one waiting for a response, seems like there's no real time frame to hear back from them. I guess no news is good news?

For those of you that already interviewed could you please post some of the questions you were asked in the interview? Were there any really difficult/unexpected questions that threw you off? How was the overall interview experience? Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thank you!

The one thing that was different at Iowa was that you have a 2-on-1 interview: two interviewers, one applicant. Each interview starts with 2 or 3 structured questions where your interviewers aren't supposed to give any sort of feedback (i.e. no expression changes, nodding, agreeing, etc -- though in reality, they seem to give at least some indication, since it's rather difficult to keep a completely neutral face). These questions are taken from a pre-determined pool of standard questions and can include things like: "Why medicine?" "Why Iowa?" or "What would you do in ethical dilemma X or Y?" Nothing too challenging.

Just make sure not to ramble on for too long since your interviewers, presumably, will not stop you. This time allocution is especially important since the rest of the 30 minute interview is filled with a more traditional format, where you get the chance to talk about your application. You want to answer each question thoroughly but not to the extent that you don't have any time left at the end.

Thanks for the advice!

One of the "structured" questions that threw a lot of people off from the group I interviewed with was " Describe a time when you had to go to someone for help".

I really hate behavioral questions like this. If I had 2-3 minutes to recall a good example it would be fine, but doing so on the spot is my weakness.

One of my structured questions was about my greatest challenge, but I was lucky because I had a prepared example for this question.

So, I got locked out of my interview scheduling tab/secondary app for some reason (wrong password? I only messed up once). Anyone know the interview schedule for tomorrow (1/15)?

I had my interview on a Wednesday also. You just need to arrive in 1187 MERF (Medical Education and Research Facility) to check in by 10:30. It's pretty easy to find; you'll see a coat rack right outside and they have signs that will lead you to the office also if you need help!

Soooo..... is tomorrow the big day? According to the last couple years' threads, notifications were sent out on the Tuesday after the 20th. I assume I won't be the only person refreshing my email and SDN every 30 seconds tomorrow.

I've been doing that since it hit mid Jan. Hoping for some good news this week.

So I'm heading to Iowa in a few days! My last interview was a few months ago so I'm feeling kind of rusty, hopefully everything goes well. I still need to invest in a nice topcoat/gloves/portable space heater!! 😀

Good luck! You should really try Shorts (burgers) or Oasis (falafels/pita) while you are there. The interview was super chill but the day is pretty long.

YES! Try Shorts! It was the best burger I ever had.

Stella also had some good burgers too. There were so many places to eat I couldn't choose so now I want to go back and try Shorts.

In the interest of equally representing all opinions, I thought Shorts burgers were only ok, but their impressive on-tap selection of local microbrews more than compensated for the average burger.

Yes! The tap selection is great at Shorts. For anyone else interested in other good beer spots in the Iowa City area I would recommend The Mill, Sanctuary Pub, Red's Alehouse and Backpocket Brewery (in Coralville).

Congrats to those accepted! How many days do they give you to accept or decline the offer?

So does everyone get an email today/next tuesday saying Accepted or Final pool?

That's what everyone thinks since last year's notices appeared mainly on Tuesdays and they say they'll notify us by the end of the month. It also didn't seem that anyone was flat out rejected as I browsed through last year's thread

Got rejected today 🙁 . Oh well, Iowa you still were a top choice and am still in love with your program. That is all, thanks.

Pre interview rejection via email today. Complete back in August. This was definitely a reach school for me stat-wise, so I'm not surprised at all.

Good luck to everyone else!

Ditto on the rejections- complete mid september

Looks like it was pre interview notifications today.

Ugh. I was hoping for post-interview news today. Guess it'll be next Tuesday. Though if I recall correctly, adcoms at Iowa has sent out decisions to people in this thread on Thursdays, too. I really loved this school. Was hoping today would be a good day. This process sucks! :scared::vomit:

I feel your pain.

It's possible that we could hear tomorrow. Last year, they sent out acceptances on Tuesday the 22nd and then sent out the final pool emails the following day. I'm hoping they've made their decisions but didnt have time to send out acceptances/final pools. It seems like it was fairly late in the day when the rejections were sent...

I agree that this process sucks.
