2013-2014 University of Kentucky Application Thread

congrats on the II! an invite is better than no invite right? i don't think they would interview people if there was no movement on the waitlist. so even though you'll be interviewing for the waitlist, there's still a chance of being accepted.
Thank You, definitely true. An interview is preferable.
What stage are you at if you dont mind me asking?

I am actually interviewing this month. just hoping that not all seats are filled yet. also an OOS. >34 >3.8

I'm pretty sure at that stage the interviews are for a waitlist spot. I'm in the same situation as you. My flight for todays interview was cancelled so I'm now rescheduled for March as well.

It seems as though UK is making an effort to wait a bit longer this year to completely fill the class. If you are interviewing soon, there may be a few spots left. After January or so, I'd say it would only be for the waitlist.

I tried starting a different thread for this, but got no replies. Has anyone been accepted to both UK and UofL, or has had to make that decision in the past? They both seem like such good schools, I'm struggling to decide..

I'm in the same boat!

does UK call or email for acceptance?

For people who interviewed already, were you asked whether you have had interviews/acceptances from other schools? This is the first school where I got this question and I was kind of surprised by it.

I was asked and the woman wrote down all the other places I interviewed. I found it odd, too. I was worried it would hurt my chances, but I got in.

I was asked kind of casually if I've interviewed at other places. I said yes, and we just moved on with the discussion.

did you voluntarily tell the places you interviewed? they didn't ask me where I had been before. I find this question to be rather awkward because who knows what conclusion they could derive from it.

I tried to dance around it and say "Midwestern public schools" and stuff like that but she wanted the names of the schools. She asked me how many interviews I had and asked me exactly which schools I would be/had interviewed at.

Wow! that's aggressive in my opinion.

There is a little bit of discussion on UK vs UofL in the UofL thread.
It's definitely a pro-UL discussion but I am fairly certain I'll pick UK. The curriculum makes more sense to me and I found UK to be more organized and professional during interviews and the application process. I also preferred UK's hospital and faculty.

It was. Between that and the second interviewer who spent 10 minutes interviewing me instead of the allotted 30 because "I have a flight to catch so we have to make this quick" I was so sure I wasn't getting in.

Imagine my surprise when I got the call a day early...

Anyone ever get the status "Interview(s) To Be Scheduled," or know if it means an II will be extended? I have no idea how long ago it switched from "Out of State Hold" - the last time I checked was probably a month ago or more lolololol

Expect an II soon.

I was on "Out sate Hold" also and received my II about a week ago. The admission committee probably looked at everyone on that status at the same time. Check your spam folders and make sure you didn't miss an email.

Does the acceptance phone call usually come the same day as the admissions meeting or a few days after? On the flip side of that, how soon will they email bad news?

They told us the earliest they'd call is Friday, and they were having the meeting Thursday afternoon. I got the call Thursday night.

It seems like a lot of the activity on this thread is from OOS applicants. Congrats to those already accepted! Does anyone know if UK accepts a certain number of OOS vs IS out of the 136 spots available? I don't have a U.S. News account....

Anyone else panicking because the class is full and you haven't interviewed yet...? Anyone? Bueller?

I wouldn't say panicking, but I'm definitely a little down about it. My interview is coming up really soon, so I just missed the boat.

This would make me feel better: Anyone know if UK has an IS and an OOS wait list in order to fill a certain number of slots for each? If they are all thrown together, things could get tough for the in-staters.

I can no longer access my status page, anyone else have that problem? It says that secondary app submission is closed...I hope that doesn't mean that the school is now closed to me lol.

i spoke with admissions and they said class is full. everybody from now on is on a hold list (if you don't get rejected) and an official alternate list (wait list) will be compiled after all interviews are done.

Don't skip! If it's encouraging at all, I'm holding a spot in the class but it is highly unlikely I'll go here at this point, so there's that. I'm sure there are lots of people like me. I'd withdraw right now, but there is a still a slight chance that I'll be forced into going here due to some unique circumstances. Best of luck!

Which school are you planning to choose over UK? UL?

If an IS student gives up his/her spot, they will fill it with another IS applicant. There are a dedicated number of spots that must be filled by IS apps. I'm not sure if they have two separate waitlists, but I would assume they do based on these requirements. On May 15th, everyone who is holding multiple acceptances must make a final decision on their school, and this will open up lots of spots. Many students are holding spots at UK and Louisville and once they decide there will be a good bit of movement off the wait list. No reason to panic yet. Go to your interview, rock it, and put yourself at the top of that wait list!

Well, my fiancé and myself are both graduating with our Bachelor's degrees this spring. She has applied to all the same schools as me, but in psychology grad school. Really, where she gets in is where I will want to go. UK would be awesome if I were making the decision myself, but It'll likely depend on her. I suppose if she gets in nowhere though, then I would have a free-choice.

Has UK already had a second look weekend? If not, has anyone heard anything about when it will be?

I think they did. It was early January, and I was going to go but my flight was cancelled. We have a Facebook group and one of the girls there called and asked, and AdComs said that was going to be the only event they have for accepted students until summer/fall matriculation.

Did you get the accepted student newsletter sent out today? It contains links/videos of all of the topics covered during the event.

Yea, actually I wouldn't bother watching the videos. You didn't really miss anything unless you need information on financial aid; but after going, I can say it's exactly what you expect, "sorry, you'll have to pay with loans", basically. Though, the dean did give a pretty epic speech at the end. Maybe it was just his accent that I liked.

I was hoping to go so that maybe it would help with the decision between Louisville and UK, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Good to know. Thanks. Was there any additional information at the second look that might help make a decision between Louisville and UK? I was going to go to Louisville pre-orientation on Feb. 15th but I'm not sure it would help with my decision making if I have already missed UK's second look.

So if we are going to call in and check our status, anyone know if they prefer we call the general admissions office number or Kim Scott's office number? Thanks.

Did you get a chance to call them? Or will they email/mail responses?

Yeah you can call and they will tell you hold or reject. Hoping to be high on the wait list when it's made.

Hi Everone--I interviewed today at UK and had a great experience. Kim Scott definitely made the point to tell us that they are far from finished in finalizing their class, so still holding out hope! What has been the average time in finding out about being placed on the waitlist? Are you emailed or do you receive a letter in the mail? Thank you!

What about that email that said the class is full?

They haven't started offering wait list spots yet. I think it will be at least a month or two before that happens if I'm not mistaken. For now, I think you can just call after they have their next meeting to see if you were held or rejected.

The class is full at this point, so I'm pretty sure people can only be held or rejected until the wait list is formed. I assume she meant that there will be lots of movement within the class, creating more opportunities for those that are held/waitlisted down the line.

(These are just my impressions).

They also send out a letter in the mail about your status (I recently got one saying on Hold). Has anybody received such a letter, yet? Is there really no wait list decision until after the interviews are complete? Or has anyone on here already gotten on the wait list?

I think they send those decision letters out about a week after the meeting in which you are discussed, regardless of the result. From what I understand, I think you're right in that applicants won't hear about wait list until after interviews. So, I'd guess mid to late March maybe?

Official rejection letter today. I thought I already was rejected so blacked it out in my Excel Sheet, so wasn't disappointed as much...but...meh.

Good luck to everyone else still in contention!
