2013-2014 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

Hey guy simple question but how did yall exactly fill out the prereqs section. Based on the instructions, I see that I just need to put the date, institution, and grade in that format. Did yall also include the course numbers from your school (or name of the course) as well?

Thanks!

Same q. I filled it out with just the basic info that it says! It's pretty weird.

Was going to ask the same question. Also, if labs were counted as separate classes, not sure if we just leave those out since there's only 3 spaces (and normally it was 1 lab per class, so a total of 4 classes and labs for each 'subject'). It doesn't say anything about putting the course numbers or names so I'm guessing we don't need to. Anyone else who's submitted it already?

I'm assuming we just leave those out too if they're separate classes. I think the third space was there incase your school has a quarter system.

Thank you, weird for sure!

Sorry to double post.

So, in the UMMSM secondary, there is a question about institutional action dating back all the way to highschool. My junior year of highschool I was accused of cheating by a teacher and brought before an ethics committee at my high school. After the meeting it was deemed that the instance was a misunderstanding, but since the misunderstanding was mine I received a couple days of in school suspension. Is this something that I need to put on my medical school application? Are they really going to go that far back? My entire career before and after this is squeeky clean.

What are your thoughts?

Seems to me like they would want you to disclose that, based on the prompt. Whether or not they would go back that far to check? I don't think it's likely, but then again do you really want to gamble on that?

In other news, finally submitted this beast of a secondary with all the optionals as well! Goodluck everyone!

agreed.

How many words are people using for their responses? To me, briefly means 1-2 paragraphs (which won't be more than 250 words)?

The only one where I used all the characters was the "Why Miami" questions. For the others I wasn't too verbose.

finally submitted. I did all the essays except for the one about fine arts. Also, I forgot to "describe" the activities in my chronological lists even though they were well described in my AMCAS and in other parts of the secondary. Do you guys think this will hurt me in any way?

Submitted with photo and letters received. Time to wait.

just received the secondary invite.

How hard do they pre-screen for secondaries?
Their website says "Most US citizens and permanent residents of the US will be invited to complete a Supplemental (Secondary) Application."

The MSAR says "All U.S. citizens and permanent residents" receive secondaries from UMMSM.

So, I guess their screening process falls somewhere between 'just barely existent' and 'nonexistent'?

yea thats what I thought. I just didn't see the point of them sending two emails ( application received and secondary invite) instead of doing it at once.

anyone's app change from under review to something else?

Where did you see your status? I've logged into the application website and all I see is a bunch of green checks saying that everything was received. DId it take a while for your application to be marked as "under review" or did it occur as soon as you submitted everything?

My status is " The review and scoring of your application to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has been completed by the Admissions Committee. Your application is currently under consideration and further evaluation by the Committee for an interview."

Does anyone else have this? I can't tell if this means I'm on hold or if I've been small pooled.

I've had this status for awhile :/ not sure what it means either

I actually never received an email telling me I was complete. I received an email on 7/30 acknowledging my application photo, which would have completed my application if that helps at all.

Bout done with this secondary. Thank god. It was so long but now I have to do USF which is just as long if not longer then Miami's >_<

Wow, I got acknowledgment of my photo being received on 7/26 but I still only have the check marks showing me my application is complete. Also haven't received any other complete email. Are you checking your status on some different page or the original secondary link??

Nope, original secondary link. For what it's worth, the first group to receive IIs last cycle wasn't until early September. I went back and looked.

What website do you see that at?

my status has also changed to reviewed and scored, this happened a few days ago, I am MD only though

Finally turned this beast in. Whew glad that's over. I think my answers turned out pretty good.

so anyone out there in miller? ive heard its one of the most competitive schools out there even though its not ranked top 20, if you're are a student there, hows the program, how competitive was it to get in/ what were you're stats? what was it like to apply there etc anything anyone would like to share is much appreciated.

How long did it take Miami to notify you guys that your pic was received? I submitted the secondary a few days ago, so not worried! Just wondering 🙂

So, I've been with the green check marks since submitting on 7/18. I just checked my status now and the green check marks are still there, but now this is underneath:

"If you would like to apply to additional MD program; click on one of the programs below, answer the additional application questions and submit the questionnaire. Please note that you can only select one additional program."

Under the above there are two links, one for MD-MPH and MD- PhD.

Are they trying to tell me something??

It took them a few days to process my photo.

Same with me. Its probably just an automated thing.

Website is down for maintenance. This has happened at several schools right before II's started going out. Fingers crossed!!

I am having the hardest time doing research on miller to answer the why miller question. where's all the stuff about student orgs, research, special programs, their mission/vision, etc.? any help would be greatly appreciated

This is the page for current students. Alot of it is password protected, but stuff about student orgs is on here and match lists, etc...

Just got confirmation that they received my photo. It only took two days.

Just got the c/o 2017 stats from a friend...I'm guessing this is MD only

7,128 applied
3,692 evaluated for interview
443 invited for interview
150 matriculated (48 UM students)

Average GPA 3.77
Average science GPA 3.73
MCAT 32.6

Wait-listed - 234 with only 10 accepted off w/l

what is the leap between "applied" and "eval for interview" is that a pre secondary screen?

The applied is just primary apps. The "eval for interview" is most likely just those who returned the secondary.

Also, the 48 UM students was out of 200 so I would say that is 48 across MD and MD/MPH or MD/PhD
