Thanks guys! I think it went well, but not sure if it went well enough...I guess I'll find out in 4-6 weeks.
Can you post the accepted stats? my MSAR expired and I don't have a subscription to USNWR..
The interview day was truly wonderful; I didn't think I could be any more in love with UMiami than I already was, but the interview day really sold me on the school....now the question remains....did I sell them on me lol.
There were about 15 interviewees or so, and they provided coffee, juice, and breakfast pastries in the AM, so skip out on breakfast and save yourself some time in the AM, because it will be there for you!
You have an open file interview, about one hour long. I interviewed with an alumni/retired member of the faculty and a 4th year medical student together, very nice people. Do not overprepare for your interview, because it will be time wasted - reading through the website, knowing the hell out of your secondaty application - I was not asked "Why UMiami" or "Why Medicine," because they already had a sense for the answers to those questions from my AMCAS and secondary. Seriously, the interview was not at all what I was expecting - it was very relaxed, and the air that the interviewers created had me relaxed within 10 minutes of the interview.
The 15 applicants are split up into groups, some interview at 10AM, some interview at 11AM, and some Interview at 1PM. MS1's - MS4's will come around during different parts of the day, either to lead you on a tour, hang out, have lunch with you, welcome you, answer questions. There is some mutual disdain between Gator fans and 'Canes fans, but it's really all in good fun. Everyone is so outgoing and cheerful though, and you could tell it wasn't an act put on by the students, because it was so scattered throughout the campus - people just walking to the gym or from their apartments were high-fiving people giving our tour, it seems like a really great place to live and study. Lunch was from 12:00-1:00, and the food was pretty good. The Dean (Dr. Weisman) was very friendly and very reassuring that applicants invited for an interview have already made their mark as an acceptable candidate, and that our interviewers were not going to grill us so much as they would probe us to learn about us better so that they could be our advocates to the admissions committee. I liked my interviewer - he had many, many positive things to say - very humbling comments, and I actually had to choke back a tear at some of the things they said, because it was so wonderful to hear that all of my efforts and experiences and the challenges I have endured have been recognized by complete strangers that want to see me succeed.
I genuinely hope they consider me for acceptance, because I'd definately matriculate here.
