2014-2015 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@adcom101 Do you know how many people are on the alternate list for CCLCM? And how many offers have been made off the alt list so far this year? Thanks!!
We haven't met as a committee for awhile so I am not sure. Maybe 5-6 from the WL so far from what I have heard from other committee members have been offered. Good luck and wishing you all the best.

Anything you can share about how many applicants are on the WL for UT? Just curious what the odds for me might be considering how many acceptances have been made off the list in the past. Thanks!

I am not involved with the UT program so I can not answer your question. Best of luck.

Withdrew my acceptance from UT last Thursday, and I really hope my spot goes to one of you guys on the alternate list! I met some of the nicest, most compassionate people when I was here, and it was painful to withdraw.

Which is why I was ecstatic when I got the call from Dean Franco the next day! It's a dream school, and I'm incredibly excited to meet the rest of the CT class. Definitely matriculating here!

CONGRATULATIONS!! That deserves the ecstatic response, all right!

Based on previous years' threads, I really thought today would be the day they start pulling people from the WL. I wonder why it's taking them some time this year, considering the acceptance deadline was pushed forward to April 30th this year? Maybe their class is pretty full? 🙁 I've been checking this thread all day today expecting to see some movement...

I noticed a lot of schools I am waitlisted at have been the same way. I imagine that admissions offices are pretty busy and that they probably cant give acceptances two weeks earlier for that reason. Although that's just a theory!

After agonizing over my dilemma for two weeks, I've decided to withdraw from Case UT. It makes me a little sad because I really enjoyed my interview day there and the students were so friendly, I could definitely see myself fitting in. I hope someone on the waitlist will benefit from this.

Quick question, do students take exams on their laptops? How important is it to have a strong battery life? Thanks for the help!

Got the call today and am giddy with excitement! Dean Mehta also mentioned that it was part of the first wave of calls. Hopefully that helps shed some light on the situation. In the meantime, I'll be gearing up for Cleveland 😀 😀 😀

Congrats! And thanks for passing along the information.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! Had a quick question--I was wondering if anyone could suggest any nearby apartments from the med school that would possibly be walking distance away?

The Waldorf is really close to campus and popular among med students. Have you joined the facebook group? There are a ton of housing posts and there is even a housing survey completed by current students! The survey provides info on walking distance and satisfaction levels/complaints by current students.

I actually just got off the waitlist yesterday, but I couldn't find the Facebook group--do you have to be added to it by administration?

I believe there was a Facebook icon in the email Christian sent me. It's a link to the group.

You should be able to follow the 'Get Connected' link on you iApply status page to get to the Facebook group.

I just randomly decided to check on iApply out of desperation (I am on the waitlist) and got so excited when there was an "order your laptop" link under the fake "acceptance" portal tab they've created so people can complete financial aid applications... This process is making me go insane... and a little desperate...

Feel the same way. Fingers crossed!

Hey, at least you guys are accepted somewhere. CWRU is the only place I even got waitlisted so thank your lucky stars that you get to start your medical education this year. At least you don't have to worry about reapplying and shelling out several thousand dollars again and you know generally what you will be doing this upcoming year.

Accepted off the waitlist today! Very psyched and hoping that the FA administrators are merciful. I really love Case and would hate to have to turn it down for financial reasons 🙁

Did you respond positively to the alternate list status email they sent out?

Quick question unrelated to admissions- do most UT students save research for their year 3 research block? Or do a lot of students do research throughout the rest of their time at case? Thanks!

So I wanted to know about how students like the case-based curriculum? Has it been more helpful than traditional curriculums that we have used in college?

PM me, @Claussen, if I can be helpful. Cleveland rocks! And about LeBron. . .

Congratulations, @fermata125 ! Hope all works out to your advantage!

Anyone have any ideas if there still might be movement?

Does anyone know of people who need roommates or good, safe places to live?

Cleveland Heights, Little Italy, University Circle, Shaker for the East Side (recommended, as the school is on the East Side). The West Side is far from the school with an annoying commute but Lakewood, Ohio City, and Tremont are all great. Downtown ain't bad either.

The school, UH, and CCF are all in a large area of the East Side with essentially no highway access, so keep that in mind.

Really hoping there is some more. Just got an email from the Case SoM... about their masters program. Got really anxious for a second until I realized what it was! Has anyone called or got in contact with them to see if they could get an estimate on movement/any more info?

Same thing happened to me...such a tease

Someone who was accepted off the alternate list said they were part of the "first wave". Also Christian Essman e-mailed everyone asking if they still wanted to be on the alternate list and if CWRU was their "first choice". This makes me believe they will be accepting at least one more person off the waitlist. Or maybe they already have and it just wasn't anyone associated with sdn. I have also heard from previous years people were accepted literally the day before classes start. I think they'll accept more but my guess is that there will be very few additional acceptances. Probably just to fill up the last few spots from the people who were accepted off the waitlist and declined the offer.

Thank you! No sorry they didn't say anything to me. I believe their class is full because I was told to wait for an opening. But that's my guess.
