2014-2015 Central Michigan University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't received an email or anything. Interviewed 10/24

I just looked at my phone and saw a missed call from a 989 area code number about 40 mins ago. Looked up the area code and it said it is a Central Michigan number. There was no message so I called the number back and it rang and went to voice mail of some guy named Steven. Did anyone else get an acceptance call from this guy?

I'm almost 100% positive that its the call I have been waiting for ALL day. But I will call back in the morning to be sure. Fingers crossed! 🙂

Guys do not worry they look at who you are and all the work you have done. That is the main reason I got in. The faculty is really nice and I have to say MMI was fun.

I am also OOS....
On another note.

Who is creating the facebook for class of 2019?

Yes you got accepted 🙂

Thanks. He did call again last night and I am accepted! Congrats to you too. You and I have almost identical stats except my numbers are switched around for the sections.

I had one Latin American Female in my interview group so if you are who I think you are, it would be so awesome to be classmates.:highfive:

This is my second acceptance and I am anticipating a couple more. I guess its decision time now. What a good problem to have!🙂

I have my interview a week from today.
Same here.

I thought we were supposed to have received an email by now with more information/instructions? My inbox is still anxiously waiting... Anyone else on this thread who is interviewing this week and has the same issue?

For those who have already interviewed, any insight about what this email contains?

I still am awaiting this email.

I got an email about a week in advance and then about two days or a day in advance. It'll come!

I'm interviewing with you guys and haven't gotten a logistics email either... If it doesn't come by Tuesday, I'll call.

You guys should take it easy. I would only call if I don't have an email the day before.

You must be much more laid back than I am-I'm envious! I'm a big planner so I would want to have all the driving/ parking info, agenda and other information before I'm already on the road. I saw you were accepted here, congrats! Any last minute interview tips?

Thank you,

Just be yourself. They like people that are open minded and passionate about medicine.

I hope to see you all in CMED.

Does anyone know what percentage of students get financial aid? And roughly what amount? Can't seem to find that information online...and just a bit upset that that information wasn't really discussed during the interview. Much appreciation if you can share here.

I am an OOS applicant so it will be quite pricey to say the least if I end up attending CMU..$73,000 for just tuition!!! Anyway, I called the financial aid office about a month ago and talked to the man who is in charge of financial aid for the medical school. He pretty much told me that there are very limited scholarships available and most likely no need based financial aid. He told me I should look into the military or other service type programs to help pay for med school. Sorry to not bring you very good news. Maybe they are more generous to MI residents though!

I agree. I love the school but I have the same dilemma. A friend of mine told me that I shouldn't choose a school just because of the tuition. The high tuition is not a enough excuse to not go there. At the end of the day it will probably take only a few more years than usual to pay it off.

They didn't even mention the cost of tuition during my day, just talked about grad plus and national scholarships....

The tuition is massive compared to the tuition at the other med school where I was accepted. Ultimately it would be about $400,000 in debt when you get living expenses plus tuition plus interest. It's a difficult choice, since my boyfriend is an M1 there currently, and I loved the school. At least I have until April to decide! I did love this school...unfortunately scholarships are very limited.

I totally agree that one shouldn't choose a school based upon tuition, but it will definitely be a contributing factor in my decision. With that being said, I have only received two interview invites thus far in this application cycle so if I even have a choice of what medical school I attend I will consider myself very lucky.

Thanks for providing that info. So it sounds like we should play it as safe as possible and expect to only rely on federal aid and/or loans. Good to know.

And I agree with what a few have you mentioned, tuition should not be the single deciding factor for which school to attend, but is obviously a contributing one, the entire process of which is unique for everyone.

Interviewing on Friday, when should I expect the final confirmation email?
