Yup verified and no secondary yet...
Do philosophy courses count towards the humanities requirements?
You're fine! I was verified the first day and I'm preeeeeeetty sure they would at least give me the chance to fill out the secondary before rejecting me haha.So it's okay if I haven't received any secondary today? I'm not like super-rejected by screening or something?
That would be so odd if you got screened lol. I'm guessing it just takes time. You're fine! I was verified the first day and I'm preeeeeeetty sure they would at least give me the chance to fill out the secondary before rejecting me haha.

I really think this question is supposed to be personal. What role have your doctors played in your life? The lives of those you care about? Think about how the "technical" roles physicians play (diagnosing and treating disease, etc.) make an impact in society. What do you think it means to be a physician?Any thoughts on what they are asking for in the role of the physician in the community? I feel like it is to heal the sick and educate people on how to remain healthy...but not sure if this is answering the question / way too obvious and generic. Do physicians generally have a wider role than that?
On the upside this means we can spend the weekend finishing writing it!Any others that haven't received a secondary yet? The website makes it clear an initial screen will be run
For the courses section, are you putting every course that counts for what they're looking for-like Humanities/Social Sciences? One of my majors was one of those so I have a ton of classes to put. Do I have to?
What are the stats like for those who haven't and have received secondaries? LizzyM of 75 here. Also wondering if it could be based on first letter of your last name...mine's V...
Link or it's not true 🙂Emory must have just started screening before secondaries this year…I don't believe they used to screen in the past.
Edit: Just read the website again. They must have changed their screening for this cycle. Apparently they screen out anyone with lower than a 27 MCAT or <7 on subsections.

Verified. Good catch.http://www.med.emory.edu/education/admissions/md/faq.html#Applying_to_Emory8

They are pretty clear that selecting the MD/MPH program on the secondary is interpreted as interest in that program, not a concrete commitment. I don't think there would be any ill will if you ultimately choose not to go down that route. The two essays are related, but seem to serve two different purposes. The first is asking why you want to have an MPH to supplement your MD to fulfill your general career goals. The second is why you think Emory in particular is the place to train to reach those goals. Can someone please give me advice on what to do with the essay Emory has in case you're interested in an MD/MPH? For those who don't know, if you say you're interested, you have to write an extra 500 words on why knowledge of public health will help you as a doctor. My primary application definitely suggests that I'm interested in public health, but I don't think I'd be interested in pursuing such a degree at Emory because it would be way too expensive. I fear that if I don't write the required 500 word essay they might just take it as me being lazy about writing it. The essay also seems pretty weird because later they give you another 200 word essay on why Emory & the degree program you chose. Thanks!
For those who ask about what constitutes a Humanities course, this was on the Emory site:
- Anthropology
- Art/Art Appreciation/Art History
- Black Studies/African American Studies
- Classical Studies
- Economics
- Foreign Languages
- History
- Journalism
- Literature
- Music/Music Appreciation
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Religion
- Sociology
- Theater/Film Studies
- Women’s Studies
I just submitted the secondary. I was verified 6/4 and my letters were submitted and processed already according to amcas. However the status on the Emory secondary says they haven't been received and my file is incomplete. Anyone else having this issue? Has amcas just not sent out the letters to schools yet?
Psssh, no Asian-American studies?
or caucasian-american studies?!
What format are you guys using to tackle the second essay prompt?

It may be possible that letter download may be set to occur at a specific date (or after secondary is submitted). From what I've read, once letters are uploaded, schools may not be able to receive the letters until two to three days later (however this has typically been later in the cycle and not on the first day).
I wouldn't sweat it honestly. Emory will probably download all letters at a single time (maybe at night when bandwidth usage is low). Come to think of it, I wonder if schools take into account these types of costs as well as storage costs. I imagine most schools have a database on the cloud that downloads from the AMCAS database with the applications made available to their specific program.
Yes. Only one of the schools I've gotten secondaries from marks my letters as received so far.For those of you who have already submitted your secondaries...
Does your status for receipt of LOR show as incomplete despite receipt by AMCAS?

Also applying here. I've heard there's not enough research opportunities at Emory. Does anyone know if this is true?
Really hope I didn't waste $156 with a 9 in VR..."The average cumulative GPA for our students who enrolled in the Fall 2013 class was a 3.7. The average MCAT score was a 34, with at least a 10 in each of the science subtests." (from that link posted somewhere above)
So it shows in their MSAR, too, but it looks like you really aren't competitive (or even considered probably) if you get anything below a 10. Why would they bring the screening down to 7, then? I feel like it wouldn't be worth it to try with a 9 in a science subtest, right...?

Then why screen secondaries at all?Its all about the $$$
IF that is really the truth behind what they do, and they in fact do not consider anyone with <10 subscore, I have lost respect for the school. But I still love Emory and hope they consider my app!Law of diminishing returns. After a certain amount of secondaries they need to invest more money to have those additional secondaries reviewed as their current staff levels can only review so many of a set period of time. This would in turn reduce their return on investment (R.O.I). By setting the screen at a certain level they can ensure they receive just the right amount of secondaries to ensure the highest R.O.I.
