2014-2015 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone getting this error when trying to pay for the secondary app.
  • It is not possible to order from the store at this time.
  • Contact the merchant for further information (error 1002).
I recall having an error like that show up. I just waited until the next morning to make the payment and the error was gone. You could possibly try a different browser to see if that helps.

Submitted an update and later realized that the same update was already in my secondary. Thank god you can edit it 😛

so if i was complete first week of august, i am out...?

I think I was complete in late June (when this first came out) and I haven't heard back yet 🙁 This is one of my top choices. Is it too early to send a letter of intent?

Thank you! Be positive 🙂 your stats are great. How many places did you apply to and where are you a resident? Have you thought about adding some different schools this cycle. Are you non traditional or a senior this year?

Feel free to PM. not sure if this is the place for this discussion 🙂

Fun Fact: Emory sends out acceptances via snail mail!

is there anywhere that lists how many IIs have gone out for emory so far?

Ahh!! II today! Complete 8/25. MCAT 33. GPA 3.9. OOS. URM. Totally unexpected. Thought I got passed over!

Congrats, that's awesome! Hope your interview goes well!
I wasn't complete here until 9/5, so maybe there is still a little hope for me too!

Question for you folks - I just got an II today (submitted my secondary early August sometime), and can either interview in early Nov or early Dec. Does anyone know whether this makes a difference?! It would be a ton easier for me to go in Dec but I don't want to screw myself over...I called the school and they said it didn't matter, but I'm wondering what the word on the street is.

I was complete in mid July. I haven't heard anything yet. Does this mean I'm out? PS, this is the case for me for most schools that I applied to. The others have been outright rejections.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone who has interviewed at Emory this cycle would be open towards sharing their experiences? From what their email says, it sounds like a very extensive day.

Anyone know when acceptances start being mailed out? For some reason, October 20th is the date that I'm remembering, but i could be wrong.

II yesterday as well!! Extremely excited as this is my first II and can't wait to go see Emory. Compete end of September

Interview dates seemed to be two in mid November and two more in December, not sure if they will add more. Mondays and Fridays though.

Look forward to seeing you guys there.

Thanks! and yeah not a problem Breezy. 36 MCAT, low GPA after struggling with a lot freshman year (2.6 🙁 freshman), have been a 3.7+ since, D1 athlete, and top 25 school.

It was an extensive but really fun day. Tour of University Hosp (the one with an Ebola pt and subsequent news crews on the front lawn) and Grady (downtown), along with the med school/rest of campus takes about 3 hours total (bus ride for part of that, nice way to see more of city). Eat breakfast before you get there and bring gym shoes for the tour. Interviews are totally relaxed; the group one is a little odd but not stressful. Lots of down time between interviews; depending on times you may finish a little early (I did).

Campus is gorgeous, everyone's suuuper friendly and welcoming. They kept talking about "Southern Hospitality" -- a very real thing (ie the security guard in the ED welcomed us to Emory and told us how awesome it is). Enjoy your time there! Definitely check out some of the city if you can spend an extra day or two there.

+1 on the gym shoes. I actually saw my student interviewer/tour guide judge my short heels on the tour 😳

HAS ANYONE HEARD ANYTHING!?!?! My head is going to explode from anticipation....

Acceptance letter received Thursday. If you haven't gotten it yet, you have been pushed back into the pool for the November 20th admission meeting. Not necessarily a bad thing; you still have a legit shot.

Honestly not buying that. Some of us live in places with very unreliable/poor USPS infrastructure, and only one person has reported an acceptance on SDN? Really?

I didn't get a letter but someone I know got one last week (atlanta zip code).

Last year Emory stated that first 2 acceptance release dates would be 10/28 and 11/25. First acceptances were not received until 11/16 and continued to trickle in on SDN every few days until 11/20. Still hoping for an answer in the next few days....

Hi everyone! I received my acceptance letter this past Wednesday the 22nd after interviewing on Friday October 10th. I was VERY surprised to receive the acceptance this early, as I was told that they would be sent out (not necessarily received) on the 22nd AND my interview date was the last day of interviews eligible for the Oct. 22 acceptance date. It was a very non-descript, thin envelope (so thin that my mom thought I had gotten rejected and was scared to open it) with a congratulations from Ira Schwartz, instructions on how to go online and confirm my acceptance, and the date of orientation (July 20-24, mandatory). I am really excited (never thought I had a shot in hell honestly after reading the stats of some of the applicants...I'm still in a state of disbelief). I have only heard from one other student that received an acceptance on the 22nd! Good luck to all and hopefully I'll see some of you at Emory next year!

Many, many, many congratulations. . .you must have made a great impression!! Glad to hear about a dream come true. (Well. . . glad and envious, I guess!) 🙂

Received my acceptance on Thursday, October the 23rd. I recall Dr. Schwartz saying they would send out the first round of acceptances on October 20th. Good luck to everyone!

Nope. I just got an account because I was (like the rest of you it seems) wanting to get on SDN to see if letters had come in from some of the schools I'm applying to. That's why I have one post. I didn't think my post would be viewed as arrogant, as I was just trying to help out and since no one had received an acceptance yet, I though the information that I had received one would be of interest. If you still think this is a fake, I'll gladly send you a pic of the acceptance letter. And as to immediately jumping to conclusions and calling me arrogant and fake, I would watch your attitude, med schools aren't going to like your type of person.

Sorry about that, I get skeptical of any 1 post users due to troll-wary purposes. No need to send a pic of the acceptance letter. We do appreciate your effort in helping us, just not that blanket statement about everyone else's status. Thanks, and have a nice day!

Thanks for understanding. And while I certainly cannot speak for everyone else's status, let me say that the letter was addressed October 17th. I know that the postal system can be slow, but by now guys, I'm petty sure the letters would have come in. It's not a bad thing to be pushed back into the next pool!!! Seriously you are still in consideration. I am waiting on a large number of places (have been rejected from one) and I'm not a bad applicant, so I'm hoping every place that I'm still waiting on is not a rejection. Also please remember if you have interviewed this early, that means you are a STRONG applicant. I have heard that for many places, basically not messing up the interview is all that it takes to get in once you have that early interview. Again, I hesitate to make statements like this, as med school acceptances as a whole are just plain bizarre (I got wait listed at an un-ranked school and accepted into Emory, and interview at some very top places). But still, if you interviewed this early, def a good sign! best of luck to everyone!
