2014-2015 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was initially pre-screened out, but my mcat increased to 28 and three months later I received the secondary. My GPA is over 3.8 and my ECs are pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money to return the secondary. I'd love to go to Emory, but obviously my mcat score isn't great. However, if it took three months to pre-screen me, maybe they liked my application/deemed me "competitive" and I should return the secondary? I don't know. Any advice?

You won't know if you don't apply. Honestly, it's a drop in the bucket (money wise) if you really want to go to Emory.

I just received an II with the same MCAT score. My GPA is slightly higher though. I say go for it.

This question may have already been asked, but how was the group interview? Were the questions pretty general or did they have different/ personal questions directed at each applicant? Was there any feeling of competition between you and the other applicants or was it more chill?

For my group interview we were all asked the same question, but they were very broad and not about a specfic aspect of our application. Overall, the group interview was very laid back and not stressful at all. It's very easy to say now, but just relax and be yourself. If you have more specific questions you can PM me if you'd like. Good luck!!

Is Emory a silent rejection school? I've been complete since 8/1 and haven't heard anything. Would love a shot here. Atlanta is awesome, and training at Emory, CHOA, and Grady would be so cool!

They say in their complete email that no one is rejected until their interview season is over.

is there a limit to the number of updates you can provide on the secondary app portal?

Just got invitation to interview and I'm really looking forward to it. Can anyone tell us more about the group interview? Is it a large group? Also, how long does Emory usually take in making decisions post-interview?

Emory is my top choice, but I'm worried that my scores might be a little below their range (3.77 GPA and 32 MCAT). Not sure how this will continue to affect me now that I have an interview offer.

A 32 is probably in the middle 50's (25-75%ile). Don't dwell on it. They'll care way more about your interview and rec's.

About what date were you complete?

When are the next round of acceptances supposed to roll out? Good luck everyone.

Group interview is nothing to worry about. Just engage yourself and answer questions like you normally would. Do not worry about your MCAT and how it's going to affect you getting in. Getting an interview means that YOU CAN BE A STUDENT AT THAT MED SCHOOL. That's done. Now they get to meet you and get to know you and that has it's weight too.

That four letter word and the two digit score that comes along with it just needs to vanish from your mind.

I totally agree with the person above, get that MCAT score out of your mind! I got an interview with a 30 MCAT and was accepted in October. Trust me, the interview is entirely to get to know you as a person. And, from my experience, no questions were related to my MCAT score or GPA. The group interview was a 3 on 3 interview with 2 faculty members and your M4 tour guide. It was very relaxed and basically a normal "get to know you" interview. If you have more specific questions feel free to PM me. Good luck!!!

so if your tour guide is one of the interviewers, are they evaluating you during the tour as well?

Thanks! That's what I'm hoping.

I was complete on July 14.

Thank you both! That is really good to hear 🙂

I honestly don't know much about the review process and how much the M4 students have a say on acceptance offers, but the M4 tour guide somebody who you spend a lot of time with throughout the day (probably 3 hours). You get a lot of time to ask questions of them about Emory and just chat. Much of my time interviewing at Emory was just people trying to get to know me as a person. Where are you from? What are your interests? etc. Overall, my interview at Emory was the most relaxed I've felt on any interview, although it's definitely one of the more extensive days.

Yayyyy. I wonder how long it takes them to arrive. Aka when do we start worrying if we don't get anything...

Under 1-2 weeks I would imagine. If they sent it and it got lost or you don't respond in some specified time then you will get a call. Otherwise they will probably review your app again at the next date.

I keep telling myself that this is a long process, be patient, it's out of my hands...but I know that each time the mailman comes to the door, my heart is gonna drop lol

Hey guys,

First post. Out of curiosity, did anyone have an admissions tab pop up on their status page? I know today was a decision day and they usually send regular mail decisions but a tab appeared on my page with an admission offer but only valid once I receive an official letter? Anyone else get this or know if it means accepted??

+1

I too have this status, I don't know if it's a generic status for everyone that has appeared. Has anyone who interviewed recently and is up for the December decision deadline noticed this?

@ABS1991 - do you know how recently this appeared for you? I haven't checked my status in forever.

+2 to the mystery status and the not-checking-for-weeks

@Avocado8 Completely non-Emory or any medical school related, but is your screen name a play on words of "I have got to wait"? If so, please accept a virtual high five for the outstanding word play.

Same admissions tab. Anyone that interview not have that?

hahaha! totally unintentional pun but I like it!

no II here and no new tab (so i think congratulations to you guys?!)

I interviewed about a month ago, and I don't have the tab. No idea what it could mean. Emory was very adamant during their interview day about only notifying applicants via snail mail, so maybe this was a technical glitch (in a good way, as in they accidentally divulged real acceptance info)?

I think this was probably the case. At least I'm hoping....

+1 without the tab but eligible for acceptance this snail mail period. I'd be willing to bet it's a mistake on their part letting you know early! Congrats!
