2014-2015 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is there a way to tell the date that my application was put on hold?

I was just placed on hold. My application was marked complete on 8/22

Placed on hold today. I'm pretty sure I was complete at the end of August.

3.7 cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, 27 (11/6/10), 32 retake (12/8/12).

It's upsetting, but it's good to know that schools are actually starting to get to my app now.

Seems like they are really getting through apps at a good clip

This was one of my safer schools, with a 3.9 gpa and 33 mcat, so kind of surprised about getting a hold as well. I wonder why they recently started giving out so many holds

Yes. It surprised me too (and also scared me) because I thought I was well above their averages. It made me start questioning my application and whether there were other parts of my application that were sub-par.

I feel like schools with lower averages really pay attention to your activities and if they think you match their mission / would attend if you were accepted. Especially at schools like GW which have huge numbers of applicants, many of them who are applying to the school as a "safety".

Not exactly sure how that affects your application, but just a thought.

I, Lord Stannis Baratheon, First of his name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm, was placed on hold today. 3.52, 32, Complete 7/28.

Weddings have become more perilous than battles, it would seem. And now, "holds" have become more damning than rejections, thanks to you neurotic low-born penguins on this thread.

Can I start freaking out now..??? Oct. 15th is right around the corner...

"Our interview season begins in August and continues through to March. Files may be read multiple times before a decision is made with regards to extending an interview, and it is quite common that files are put on hold before an interview invitation is extended."

This is said on their site, I don't know how true it is

I hope it is true... and if they are giving us a second chance, (well, sort of), it's a positive thing....

This is totally unrelated (well I guess it's related given that my sugar cravings come from the stresses caused by this hold!) but @Krispy Kreme, I love your username. Now I want donuts.

Out of curiosity, What is the deposit for GW to hold your spot once accepted? I am trying, but could not find the information online.

Got an II today. Application submitted 08/27. Canadian with a LizzyM of ~69/70.

Like someone mentioned, they automatically have an interview date scheduled for you, but it seems like they make a real effort if you need to reschedule.

are holds sent via email or do you just have to keep checking?

To the people who have interviewed already, I was wondering if you had any tips for my interview. This is my first one and I am a little shaky on my interview skills! I have done some lurking in the threads, and I have gathered that its pretty laid back, but I would appreciate any tips! Thanks!

Hey there! This was my first med interview and I had it last week. I also found it super laid back. Just two 25 min interviews, one with a student, one with a faculty member. Since it's closed file, make sure you have a game plan of points to hit or bring up, since the discussion can kind of go anywhere based on what the interviewer is interested in following up on. Also, my faculty interviewer seemed to like asking a few questions that caught me off guard to see how I'd react, including some on current events like ACA and NIH funding, so it'd be a good idea to form a stance on some current health topics before you interview. But seriously, it's best to try to relax and forget how much weight those 50 minutes could have on your future haha. Best of luck!

On hold, OOS, LizzyM - 72, complete 9/10

That's three holds in a row from my three lowest stats schools... freaking me out a bit. Especially since I would love to go here.

Do you happen to remember the health care topics he asked you about? Thanks! 🙂

On hold as of 10/13/2014. I guess its a big group here kind a bummer!!

any early decision applicants that were accepted on here?

Any acceptances out there yet for sept/early oct interviews? Seems like last year's applicants heard back beginning on October 16h.

The first day one can hear back from any school is October 15th.

I interviewed here late August, and they were pretty vague about when we'd hear back, just that we would have to wait until at least October 15. It'd be great to get news tomorrow!

Oh great, so now tomorrow there will be a ton of "I can't believe I got in!" posts. On the one hand, envy will consume my soul, but on the other, maybe there will be some shuffling around and some withdrawals of applications and I'll land with a II. I am, however, somewhat weirded out that I am neither on hold nor have I gotten a II. Secondary submitted early July and LOR's complete beginning of August.
