I was complete July 29. I was really hoping for a shot at this one =[
Same, I went here undergrad so I was hoping they would give me some love. Just got my rejection and was completed around the same time.

I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 best of luck this season. Any ii yet?

Same to you! And nope, two rejections and no ii's so I'm starting to stress haha. My gpa is 3.7 but MCAT wasn't good (28) so I think that is really counting against me 🙁.

Got the axe today. Complete 7/28. But i must say that was the oddest rejection ever. Had to laugh a little. We finally made a decision...log on to find out...sorry but we can't offer you a spot in the class.

Great question... many students (at least most first year students I'm aware of) live in Foxhall just to the west, Glover Park just to the north, or in the immediate vicinity of the school, but housing is pretty expensive, especially relative to the rest of the country. Basically, the housing market within the District of Columbia itself is very competitive amongst buyers because demand is so high, and DC itself has height restrictions all throughout putting a dampener on supply.

Arlington's (across the river in Virginia) where you're going to find more affordable housing, and there's a Georgetown shuttle running between the Rosslyn metro station (and the Rosslyn neighborhood in Arlington- Rosslyn's just across the Potomac from Georgetown). For the same price as one bedroom in a house with other students, you could potentially get your own apartment. Dupont Circle (where the other shuttle goes, to the Dupont Circle metro) is very, very pricey but that is also because it is a very desirable neighborhood.

I can't give you an exact quote but you're probably looking at anywhere from $1100-$1500 per month (including utilities) for a studio apartment in Arlington and anywhere from $1400 to $1900 a month in Dupont Circle. Again, take this with a grain of salt- it really depends on what you're looking for in terms of amenities, and prices aren't exact. And I'm pretty sure that most students are renting at the low end of the spectrum.

You also have to look at it this way- you may choose to live in a cheaper apartment that's farther from Georgetown, but you also need to factor in the greater costs of commuting (Metro fares can add up quickly per month).
Thank you so much demosthenes102! This was very helpful information especially for someone used to renting an apartment in a small town for prices that are literally 1/6 of the cost of the monthly rent in D.C.!

Just 36$ per school on amcas and the seconadary fee
So it'll be $35 + $ 36 + $130. 🙂 Will it be worth it? It seems like a lot of people have been rejected already....I need some time to see if it will be worth it after all. Are you leaning towards applying there now?

I have seen the rejection posts from people with stats above mine which worries me. My stats are in line with this year's entering class but I still dont want to risk my money. I think it isnt all too late right now since people have applied in September in the past and have gotten accepted.

And 36$ for amcas application and 130$ for the secondary. What $35 are you referring to?

I think if your stats are in line with this year's class, then its worth a shot. You just never know you might get an interview.

And the secondary essays are long for Georgetown so it would take a day or so to write the secondary.

I thought you meant I would need to pay $36 to add more schools to the list. I know there's an extra fee for adding mores schools later for AACOMAS but there is none for AMCAS?
My friends told me not to apply there because SOOO many people apply there.....I'm going to give it a day or two and then decide.

Oh, for amcas its only $36 per school and thats it. Yes, i think they get like more than 10,ooo applications but its a wonderful school. Its worth a shot.

okay. i will apply then. you should do, too. 😉

Rejected as well. I think? Has anyone noticed that the dates are all funky in their portal? I'm a reapp from last year and all my dates haven't been updated to this application season... I mean I know it was a long shot for me, but I would think they would at least date my rejection letter with the current year haha...

Does anyone know if Georgetown provides housing or do people rent-out apartments near by? How much is housing, if provided?

Georgetown does not provide housing for medical students. People mostly rent out apartments or rooms within houses, often with other medical students.

Not a problem, I'm from a large city where costs are about 1/4 to 1/3 of the cost of monthly rent in DC, so I feel your pain.

About 10% of people who apply get interviewed at Georgetown, if I remember right. A lot of times, anywhere from 4.5 to around 25% of applicants at many schools get interviewed. Take it for what it's worth, but my attitude was you don't know until you try, and well, I'm here now. 🙂

Thanks for letting me know. I have been holding the secondary for about ten days too. I heard cost of living is so expensive in DC so I am debating if I should submit or not.

Are you attending Georgetown ?

Yes.

I'm living in DC now, and while the cost of living is very high, the city is also incredible. I think it would be worth applying and at least checking it out if you get an interview. There are always ways to save money (sharing a house, not eating out too much, etc.) and there's a lot of free stuff to do in DC. It might be a better place to live a while after med school, when you're less worried about saving money, but it's worth consideration now.

Can any current students comment on the actual cost of education assuming you are trying to live on a budget without going to extremes? MSAR says ~$80k a year and Georgetown website says ~$84k, but I've heard a lot of schools inflate the cost of attendance to ensure that extra loan money is available if you want/need it. Is this the case at Georgetown, or do most students actually spend $80k+ a year? Also, can anyone comment on the necessity of having a car if you matriculate? I'm assuming the cost of a parking space would be extremely high and not having one would be a good start as far as saving money goes.

Have you had your interview yet? They will go over all the costs and as far as the breakdown goes, due to the high COA, 80k seems about right.

Thanks for the heads up. My interview is coming up soon, I'll look forward to hearing what they have to say.

Rejected 9/4. Good luck everyone!
So sorry. I got my first rejection (from Mayo) pretty much as soon as it was received. Lots of questions I ask myself in the middle of the night. . . .I am hoping a school with sense is writing to you right now.

Just got my first II of the cycle here today at 8:55am. This just lifted my mood soooooo much. A top choice for me and my girlfriend, who wants to complete her Masters in Foreign Service here.

App received: 08/07
App complete: 08/14
II: 09/17
Stats: c3.742/s3.80, mcat 10/11/12

I am a re-applicant, non URM.

Good for you and good luck to you!!

Rejected just now. It stings a little bit since Georgetown seems like such a good school but I'm fortunate enough to have received a handful of IIs already so I'm not too upset about it. Good luck to everyone interviewing here!

Complete 8/6, rejected just now. Good luck to the rest of you!

Mind sharing stats and complete date?

Mind sharing stats and complete date?

Sure, I have a 3.93 sGPA and cGPA and a 37 MCAT. I was complete around the end of July - my AMCAS was verified in early June but my committee didn't upload my letter packet until the end of July so wasn't complete until then.

Seems like Georgetown looks for a specific type of student and I thought I fit that but I guess not. Oh well, what can you do?

Joining the rejection train: 3.75 cGPA, 35 MCAT. Complete August 5th.

Looking on the bright side--my schools with interview are all in cities with a much more reasonable cost of living.

Rejected just now. Stings a little. Good luck to everyone else

Darn it anyhow. ColDoc, Ersh, TappinFool. . . .sorry to hear this. I don't think (from experience!) there's any way for this "thanks, no thanks" stuff not to hurt! Hope there's better in store for you!

Complete 8/12 took me an embarrassingly long time to get this secondary done. It was by far my last secondary completed (maybe five weeks). Anyways I got an interview invite last wednesday. gpa 3.76 mcat 34 if that helps anyone out 🙂. Sorry to everyone whose gotten rejections lately and good luck to everyone still in the running!

joining the party a little late. just submitted my secondary, which took no less than a full DAY to complete. 3.8, 34. $130 to roll the dice and see what happens! and based on what im seeing here, when I say roll the dice, I mean it. I gotta tell you, with some of you guys running around with your 35-37 mcats and near 4.0 gpas, id definitely be interviewing you if I had a med school.

Took me more than a full day. . .that writing is demanding! Wishing you no snake eyes in the dice rolls. . .wish I could wait till you open your medical school!
