Tell me more about yourself...

I had an undergrad 2.94 cGPA, with an upward trend after I switched from the premed track to an English major. I played D-I athletics when I was premed, so that helped to explain my initial grade fluctuations.

As a post-bacc student, I started my pre-reqs from scratch and ended up with a 4.00 cGPA. Although my overall sGPA and cGPA aren't stellar by any means, I think my MCAT score (14/10/14) highlights the improvements I've made.

As far as ECs, I have 4000 hours working in an emergency room as a technician, and 1000 hours volunteering as an EMT. I have about 500 hours of laboratory research, in which I coauthored a manuscript that is currently being prepared for submission. I also work as an AP bio/chem/physics tutor.

I was accepted last year with a 3.3 cum. gpa. I think whoever mentioned a high MCAT score helping is right, it seemed to help in my case at other schools too.

Nice, I have a lower GPA and a high MCAT. I remember you from the UMass thread last cycle. I'm a re-applicant. Did you matriculate here?

Damn, I'm a low GPA high MCAT applicant but since people that were complete after me got IIs it looks as though they've passed me over, which leads me to believe I've been rejected 🙁

How did people approach the question, "is there anything special you would add to our school?(1500 characters)?"

I have no idea how to go about doing this.

Can someone describe the interview format?

Last year, it was two 1-on-1 interviews, each one lasting 30-45 minutes.

Pretty laid back...they just want to get to know you better. I mainly got asked questions about my hobbies, interest in medicine, activities I did in college, and how I would describe my personality. I didn't get any ethical/policy questions (and neither did anyone else I talked to).

Yeah. I have a high GPA, average MCAT, complete 7/8... no II. This is my absolute #1 choice 🙁

Thanks for the reply! That sounds good. I emailed admissions on Thursday but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Do you think I should book a hotel room just in case, and then cancel?
If it won't cost you anything sure. It's better to be safe. But I don't think we were unable to find hosts for anyone last year, so I wouldn't be too too worried.

Is the interview open or closed?

got an II this afternoon--the earliest date was 11/18. That seems late? Could anyone else see an earlier date (as of today around 3pm)?

Wow...they're already on November dates?!?

II today. Complete July 22, IS, GPA 3.9 sGPA 3.95/33
Yes, earliest dates available are November.

II! OOS. 3.6 - 35. Complete 7/27.

Someone mentioned 727 interview invites to 80 matriculants last cycle. Anyone know how many actual acceptances were offered?

Edit: I received the II today after several people had posted on here that dates were starting to fill but the Oct 1st interview date was available? Maybe I'm just lucky but that seemed odd...

I have the same question about acceptances! I couldn't find that info ANYWHERE and I'm really curious about that ratio. The only person I know who interviewed at Hofstra chose to attend a different school so I know they probably have some people turn down acceptances.

I doubt any school would want to publish how many students they accepted by chose to go elsewhere... sounds like negative marketing

Of course not, I understand schools don't publish this but they do sometimes provide these numbers (if they're good) to prospective students during interviews and such.

No word from them and everyone here seems to have a high mcat.

Looks like what I heard was right. Hosftra, for the majority, only takes 30+

MSAR Online is your friend. Hofstra's 10th-90th %ile for MCAT runs from 30-37 with a median of 33. Hence, their effective floor is 30.

Last year they had >5500 apps, ~700 interviews, and accepted 80.

US News has loads of admissions statistics on this for essentially every school. For example UK had 2313 applicants, 477 offered an interview, 234 of whom were accepted, and 136 enrolled. It also breaks down these same parameters for IS and OOS. I would be surprised if Hofstra didn't also have published data like this somewhere.

It really does not matter in the least, just gotta kill the interview.

Hopefully MSAR updates our data soon since we matriculated 100 students this year.

I don't have access to the number of acceptances (and last I checked, it wasn't in US News and World Report), but private schools in general usually accept 2-3x the number of seats available, so in this case, I would say 200-300 acceptances. Don't worry about it too much though. Regardless of the number of acceptances, your plan should be the same- read up about the school and it's curriculum, prepare your best for the interview, and look forward to having a fun visit and relaxed interview day.

really want to go to Hofstra. no II yet 🙁

II!

stats: ~69 LizzyM score (32-34 MCAT, 3.5-3.7 GPA - sorry, trying to remain fairly anonymous)
complete 7/31

Hope this gives some hope to everyone who's waiting. They're definitely not just picking the highest stats out of the bunch, as mine are pretty much dead-on average for Hofstra. It took me about 3 weeks to complete the secondary once I received it due to family issues (I didn't actually say that on the secondary, so I assume they just thought I was lazy).
Earliest dates available were in late November, maybe pushing on December by this point.

Just turned in my secondary! I know I'm a little late to the party, but really like what I've read and heard about the program. Good luck, everyone!

Has Hofstra sent out rejections yet? Is it safe to say if you were complete in early July you've essentially been passed over?
