2014-2015 Howard University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got accepted here last week! It was the BEST feeling ever since it was my first acceptance of this cycle.
I loved the interview, the people (students and faculty) I met on that day, and I absolutely love the D.C. area. I really can't wait to start! The only bummer is that it starts in July rather than August.

Those who got interview invites/acceptances, mind sharing your stats?
I got accepted. I'm a black female from Haiti (moved the the US in 2005). Science GPA 3.73, MCAT 23 (I know...), took some time off after finishing undergrad during which I volunteered at a hospital, was involved in a few extracurricular activities (for one of which I was the Vice President), shadowed physicians, family legacy, and.. I can't think of anything else about myself.
Feel free to ask me any questions

For those accepted or that have interviewed, what time did the interview started and what time it ended ?
I got there just before 8am and finished around 1 (I think), but I interviewed during finals week, so we didn't get to observe any of the classes as interviewees usually get to.

For those of you who've been accepted, how long after your interview did you have to wait! It's been 4 weeks as of today and I'm gettin a lil antsy. Especially cause they said around the 15th! haha
I interviewed December 16th, didn't hear anything back until mid to end of February. And I got accepted!

Congrats !!! Now that I read your post I remember you from meharry on Feb 16th

Meharry is that bad ?
No that's not what I meant. I can't say I know much about the school because our interview actually got canceled at the last minute due to bad weather. Like "we were all sitting in the interview room waiting for it to start" last minute... So that was super unfortunate.. It was rescheduled for the next day, then canceled again due to bad weather... smh

lol I never even made it to campus...was on the way and then they cancelled it...Don't even know what Meharry looks like lol

Lol I wish. I had to walk around in the snow/ice and freezing rain for a little bit because I couldn't find the building, and I was tired of having my taxi driver drive me around looking for it (the meter was running).. Needless to say, it was not a good day..

Ah, C'est super !! Me too. well, I'm fluent in French, Arabic and high intermediate in Spanish. 🙂

C'est trop bien ça. Salut!

Oh yes. I had a feeling it was you. Comment tout s'est passé pour toi? As tu reçu des nouvelles d'autres écoles? Est ce que tu as complété ton interview avec Meharry?

Hi,

I was wondering when you the office acknowledged your secondary application was complete?

On 10/20/14 I received this email:
SECONDARY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL.

Thank you for your interest in Howard University College of Medicine.

You may go on the Apply.medicine.howard website and see that your secondary has been received. The code "SR" indicates that. we are now able to see/review your secondary. A code of "SR" means that both your secondary and letters of recommendation are visible and your application is complete. There will be no other entries on apply.howard website after this designation. However, we assure you that your application is being reviewed.

Then on 11/21/14 I received this email:
Thank you for applying to Howard University College of Medicine. We have completed a second review of your application and would like to invite you to interview at the College of Medicine. (If you are no longer interested in attending Howard University College of Medicine, please email back - withdrawing your name from consideration. Include your AMCAS ID number verification.)

Then I interviewed December 16th and got my acceptance on 2/27/15 (I called in)

I was really surprised at how fast I got an interview invite. But I am way too happy to complain!

Congrats! That was fast indeed

I got notice of my received secondary application 12/15/14 ( Dec 15, 2014).

It was late and having a GPA of 3.82 and a MCAT of 24 doesnt help. It seems its too late for me to hear any good news

Thanks for sharing your journey and best of luck in medical school

I don't think it's too late. They will be interviewing until pretty much the end of April (maybe the beginning of May too if the class still isn't full). Be patient! Howard takes their time sometimes

I was complete in mid October and JUST got an II about a week ago.
If you have NOT been rejected at this point, you're still in the game.

On the letter of acceptance, there's a part that mentions that if we will need financial aid, we have to fill out FAFSA and the Howard University Financial Aid Application. Where do we find the latter? I looked all over the packet and there is no link to it at all...

Am I missing something?

Try sending a letter of interest highlighting a few of your key qualities that will make you a good physician and also your reasons for being so interested in HUCM

Thanks for the encouragement. I contacted Jwalk and all she could tell me was this:

"Thank you for your recent email and your interest in Howard University College of Medicine. Your file has been reviewed.

Should we decide to interview you, we will email you. However, to date we have over 5,000 completed applications for 120 spots.

We will be inviting applicants to review through April.

Final letters will be send to applicants not interviewing beginning in March.."

If my file has been reviewed yet she did not inform me of my status. I have not yet heard of an interview since it was sent to me so i'm assuming its not good news
