2014-2015 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

Hey guys,

the small pool email basically means that you passed their GPA/MCAT requirement; nothing else...nothing more
After the small pool, its MOSTLY depends on your extracurriculars for a II (completion date also factors in)

that being said:
1) A LOT of people got II without small pool (talking to them, they had a low MCAT subsection; or retook ochem; or dropped out of school for a semester; something that would make the adcom look twice at their application)
2) A LOT of people got II with a small pool (these are the guys who score 10+ in each MCAT section; have the average GPA; don't have any run ins with the law)
I agree with you except for the description #2.. Not everyone has a subsection of 10+ in every MCAT section (e.g. me) -- and I was interviewed/accepted (not URM, fyi)

I wish! I was small pooled and have a MCAT and GPA well over the averages, but no II. I wonder if there are still chances left!

I was complete 9/18 and still haven't heard a thing back. ORM, MCAT 31, GPA 3.66 sGPA 3.61, OOS (CA). Hoping to hear back soon. What are my odds?

FInally got an II today 🙂!! Just confirmed for December 4th!!! Question for WI residents, do we have to complete the resident form before interviews Or only after you get accepted? Thanks!

Anyone know if MCW is receptive to in the area emails? Does anyone know if they are doing interviews in the middle of December? I will be in Wisconsin for my wife's family Christmas and will only be a little over an hour away instead of 8 hours. I completed my secondary late october. thanks!

Not sure if they are receptive to those emails but the options for interview dates were Dec 4th and Jan 9th so I don't think they're having interviews then

+ 1.
Can we confirm this? The website is not updated if this is indeed the case: http://www.mcw.edu/Medical-School/Registrar/Grading.htm
Current M1. Basically every preclinical student is operating under the assumption that next year the grading will be P/F, but we have not been told definitively either way by the administration. PM me if you have any direct questions and I'll do my best -- we have exams coming up.

I've been certified since 9/8 (I'm not entirely sure when I was marked complete), but I have yet to hear anything back. Does this mean I still haven't been reviewed?

I doubt that. There is no official "hold" at this school, but it's probable you're in a list of continuing candidates (as in no interview right now, but potentially in the future). The small-pool email system seems to be all over the place this year, so it's not a reliable source to see where you stand.

Hey guys, I just received an interview invite. One of my parents is an alumnus so I also received an email about the Alumni Association Mentor Program. I was wondering if any one else has gone through this and could tell me something about it?

Pre interview rejection just now. OOS, 3.7cGPA, 3.6sGPA, 27 (11/6/10), 32 retake (12/8/12). Good luck, ya'll!!

Pre-Interview Rejection also.....OOS .....wish they had allowed updates for pre-interviewees with a friendly update portal like some of the other schools..not really sure what happens to our updates though anyway......I think the schools are clearing the decks before xmas break and keeping the apps of those they only really seriously consider interviewing early next year

Sorry to hear. Were either of you small pooled?

When was your secondary certified? I still haven't heard anything from them and I submitted my secondary in October.

II today for 01/09 or 01/29. I was small pooled 8/31. I'm kind of ambivalent about attending the interview though. I want to check out the school (seems like everyone that goes falls in love with it), but I don't think that is enough of a reason to take up an interview spot.

I'm assuming you've been accepted else where?

How did you find out? Portland update ? Email? Congrats!

If you have been accepted at your top choice it makes sense for you to decline the interview because 1. You will save your time and money and 2. Someone else will get your spot.

Congrats on your awesome acceptances!

Yeah that is what I was thinking. I will call them tomorrow morning to free up the spot.

Congrats!! II with these dates as well, I elected to fill the 1/29 date.

I am curious... does anyone know how many seats are still available in the class and the details about waitlist (movement, spots, etc)?

II today! I had a nice surprise when I checked my email earlier 🙂 Complete sometime in July.

+1
I wanted to sign up for 1/9/14 but my family is in town then.
So had to settle for 1/29/14.

scholarships...
that's what i figured you'd say... when i interviewed i seem to remember the financial aid guy saying that the only institutional aid was MCW loans that had to be repaid to them. I heard nothing about scholarships whatsoever.

Yep. Complete since August 1st. I'm assuming silent rejection.
