2014-2015 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
that's what i figured you'd say... when i interviewed i seem to remember the financial aid guy saying that the only institutional aid was MCW loans that had to be repaid to them. I heard nothing about scholarships whatsoever.

They mentioned scholarships on my interview day, and I have a relative who is a student on scholarship there currently. There's definitely scholarships available, they just don't advertise them. The incoming aid might be more rare, especially since they accept like over 200% of their class and will just take the next guy on the list if you don't like the price. Meh nothin to lose with sending an update..

when do we know more about scholarships and do we have to apply?

Does anyone know the dates of the interviews that are scheduled for January?

Sorry if this is repetitive, does anyone know if they are receptive to ITA emails for someone in the small pool?

Can any current student answer some questions about the school?
1) Is the grading system P/F? No...its graded and ranked
2) Is there video capture for lectures? Yes
3) How many days/hours a week are you in anatomy lab and how many students per cadaver?4:students per cadaver
4) As someone looking to go into general surgery, is MCW a good place to succeed? Great for surgery...
5) Any last overall thoughts?

Got an II on December 30th for the Green Bay campus on January 26th! Really excited, but I was wondering if anyone had any info on how that affects my Milwaukee chances? I applied to both, and the II email said that the interview will be for acceptance into either or both.
Thanks!

I feel the small pool is a form of screening that just helps the admissions office sift through all those applications. This screening would give them a means to categorize students based on metrics i.e, the GPA and MCAT. Once they have these two piles, they can pick and choose who they want to interview based on additional factors (whatever they use for the holistic approach).
Theoretical example:
Small pool criteria for MCAT: No section below a 10 or 9
Student A: MCAT of 30 (10-10-10) --> small pooled
Student B: MCAT of 32 (12-8-12)--> not small pooled
The admissions committee may send an II to student B even though he/she was not small pooled.
Idk just my take :writer:
This is 100% true, and also what happened to me. I didn't hear anything for 4 months and then boom, II email 3 days ago to the GB campus. I have competitive stats other than an 8 in verbal which kept me out of the small pool. The director of admissions told us that getting an II without small pool is possible, but you have to have something in your application that really sticks out.

Is it likely that MCW is done giving out ii for the Milwaukee campus?

from last year's thread, it seems they interviewed in February as well (didn't check further), but these interview invites had the caveat of interviewing for the waitlist.

II to Milwaukee campus today after 3+ months of silence. I also have a 8 in verbal but other than that my stats are very competitive. I also never got small pooled.

I also just received an invite to interview on January 30th! I was small pooled way back on 8/22. I wonder how many spots are still available at the Milwaukee campus.

I just cancelled my interview and withdrew my app from here after getting accepted to one of my top choices.
Good luck to everyone else!

Did anyone have trouble scheduling their interview? I keep getting voicemail when I call.

Hey everyone, (I'm a Canadian)

I submitted my application a while ago and received an email in Nov saying that my application has been moved to a smaller pool from where they will select for interviews. I've been offered 2 interviews elsewhere but I still want to interview at as many places possible. I'd love to be interviewed here but I'm losing hope. Should I send a letter of interest?

Curious about my chances...
MCAT 30 - PS11 - VR8 - BS11
GPA - 3.4 ScienceGPA - 3.6
Decent amount of ECs
WI resident
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

OOS interviewing here next Friday. Interviewing at the Green Bay campus. The II email stated that the interview is for "admission at either or both campuses". Does anyone know how they decide which campus would admit interviewees?

Also, any other general advice/comments for the interview at Green Bay?

Best of luck to everyone else that has yet to interview/hear back!

Does medical college of Wisconsin have a day reserved each week for applicants to call and discuss their application with an admissions representative?

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for the interview day? I looked through this whole thread but couldn't find much.

The interview day was great in my opinion-the faculty and staff are so welcoming. Don't be alarmed if it a really big group of applicants as MCW does only 1 or 2 interview days a month I believe (I could be wrong but this is my take based on the past posts). You interview with one faculty member and based on my day people said it was either really conversational or more direct questions about what you learned from experiences and how you view medicine in the future etc. Then you interview with a student and some students stick to suggested questions and some create their own! Good luck and have fun!

Did they mention when the last interview day for this cycle is yet? Thanks.

Thanks! Can you share some pros about mcw? Some things that you liked and stood out?

For those who have interviewed, how long does MCW usually take to make a decision post interview?

For those who have interviews at the end of Jan, did they state in your invite email that they were anticipating to be interviewing for "the few remaining spaces in their class and for placement on the waitlist"?
I just got an II for dates in Feb and I'm wondering if there will actually still be spots left then. I really like this school, but I don't only want to interview for a spot on the waitlist, ya know?

My invite did not mention interviewing for a waitlist spot. I am interviewing 1/30

The redesigned curriculum seems to be going really well based on student feedback, the staff talked about how to MCW will make you a better physician compared to selling the school as a product, there is clinical experience starting in year one, the pathways (take a look at the website if you havent read about those), and just general feel of a teamwork atmosphere! Those were some of my initial impressions

I received an II on Friday for dates in February but they did not mention interviewing for the last spots in the class and for the waitlist.

Did yours say that?

I received my II on Jan 8th and am interviewing this Friday and I looked through the emails and they didn't say that.
Weird

I received mine on Friday as well and it was for dates in February, though I am actually interviewing Jan 30th, and it said that it is for the last remaining spaces and the waitlist.

I received my II for this Thursday on 12/22 and it only mentioned interviewing for the incoming 2015 class.

Well, it looks like I'll probably withdraw my app then. Has anyone who withdrew after an II just sent an email or called the office to withdraw?

Best of luck to everyone!

I withdrew my application and cancelled my interview through email. I included my AAMC number and they quickly responded. They asked me to take a short questionnaire to understand why I had withdrawn my app.
