2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

Complete early July, guessing silent rejection here.

My last recommender finally submitted my letter! I asked him in July 🙁 hopefully it isn't too late!

Is it too late to submit my primary application even though the deadline is 12/15? I wasn't sure about this school at first, but now I feel like it's right for me. But is it too late? 🙁

Tomorrow I continue with my day job: violently hitting the refresh button on my e-mail inbox every 5 minutes until I induce a migraine strong enough to knock me out for the night - only to wake up the next day, and do the same thing again....

I would still send it! Better to spend the money and see what happens than not send it in and regret it. They're not just going to throw away your application because you didn't send it in early. Plus, there's no essay!

anybody gotten off a hold here? seems to be the death sentence

Did you get an email saying that you were on hold, or did you see it through a status change? Mine has been "under review" for maybe a month and a half, so I was wondering.

I'm not actually on hold (interviewing here soon), but given that interviews only started 2 weeks ago, there couldn't possibly be any post-interview holds. You should get an actual email that says your on hold based on what others have been reporting. Best of luck!

Gotcha. Didn't know they just started interviewing. Thanks a lot, and good luck with your interview!

Long time lurker.

Received an interview request a few weeks ago and scheduled it for December.

NYC area Post-Bacc Student, 3.6 GPA
Northeast area Undergrad, 3.3 GPA
MCAT 34

Good amount of research experience.

I figured I'd post incase anyone was interested. I know how frustrating the waiting game is getting for me and any bit of information helps provide context for this whole thing.

Congrats and welcome! May I ask, when were you marked complete and did you ever get a Keep in touch email?

I'm worried that the KIT e-mail is sent to people that the admissions committee has decided to pass up for the first batch of interviews.

It's possible, but I've never heard that. If I were you, I'd try my best not to worry about it. It's really easy to be neurotic about this process and read too much into things. You'll only drive yourself nuts.

Received KIT/SIT email and interviewed the very first day. I think they are currently interviewing people that are more likely to matriculate here after receiving an acceptance. A lot of the people receiving the hold email had higher stats so NYMC is probably trying to hedge their bets with these guys since they are more likely to receive an acceptance elsewhere. I thought there was a chain of replies earlier in this thread that attempted to "analyze" the meaning of the KIT/SIT email.

That makes sense. I guess I will just try to wait without making anymore conspiracy theories for now.

Anyone else interviewing on Thursday?! I'm starting to get nervous! Anyone who already interviewed want to share some pro-tips?

I'll be there on Thursday!!

For those that have interviewed already, did the interview day end at 3:45pm like it says in the invite?

Depends. If you are in the first circuit of MMI, then your interview day ends around 3:20. I think people in the second circuit were done around 3:50-ish. You do not know which circuit you have until check-in though!

KIT received today after hearing nothing for quite some time. I thought it was a II and got so excited lol

hearing they're well into February for interviews is discouraging, especially as one of the few people I know where this is actually a top choice. hopefully good news soon

KIT email today as well. Sent my secondary about a month ago

Received hold email today. Thought it was rejection at first. I guess status updates went out today. Anyone gotten II after getting hold?
Complete: 9/18
KIT Email: 9/30
IS LizzyM 68-72.

My application was marked as complete in mid-August and I have not heard back since then. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I was complete early September and have yet to receive an email with a status update. I also can't open up the portal so I can't check online.

Complete late July and nothing. I wonder if the fact that others who were complete later received holds is good or bad news for us earlier applicants who've had no correspondence.
Similar experience here. Complete late August, and though I did receive the KIT e-mail almost right away after my file was complete, I haven't heard anything since.

I was complete 8/11 and haven't heard anything except a KIT email on 8/28

Yup. Been complete since 7/24 and haven't heard anything. not even a KIT email

I was complete in the 2nd week of September, and all I got was the KIT e-mail, and no status updates. I have a feeling that the admissions committee is not going through applications in the order that they received them.

I was also complete near the end of september and received the KIT today! And maybe they're into February for interviews already because they are more caught up on looking at our applications than some other schools? Although some people have still heard nothing, so who really knows what goes on in there.

It depends on which MMI circuit you are assigned to. If your in circuit A (MMI first, tour later) then you could be done earlier than 345 (I was out by 320). If you do the MMI after the tour, you will probably end at 345 or a bit after.

Edit: sorry, didn't see that @womanofscience posted an answer already!
