2014-2015 New York Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
can any current NYMC medical students answer how anatomy lab is run? 6 people per cadaver, each person dissects? or are there groups per cadaver and the groups take turns teaching each other (aka not everybody dissects at the same time)? Thanks!

I have an II for really late January. Do you think they'll be receptive to an email asking if they have any earlier spots?

Wouldn't hurt to ask... Perhaps someone withdrew from earlier dates

Did you just get the II?

Thanks for the reply. No I received the II a while back, maybe a month ago or so. Back then there were only late January dates available.

So I never received a KIT or application complete, but according to the website it says that they have everything. For those that got either of the above, did it come from the medadmit email address?

I just feel like my application is floating in the ether somewhere near Valhalla.

2 groups per body and each group gets half the body to dissect. Some labs will have both groups present at the same time: cranial cavity, spinal cord, abdominal viscera. Everyone gets a chance to dissect. When you are done with the dissections, most groups run through the structures as a way to review. c/o 2018

So, I don't know if anyone can chime in on this.. I just got accepted to one of the SUNY schools (Downstate) in-state. I'm really starting to get burnt out from doing interviews. I was thinking of not going to the interview just because NYMC is significantly more expensive, but I don't know much about NYMC's program. I was wondering if any current students maybe chose NYMC over a SUNY or their public school and could share their reasons for doing so?

Some of my classmates chose nymc over suny downstate because there is more of a community atmosphere here since we have dorms on campus. Obviously the biggest thing is the difference in cost, but choose the school that you think you will thrive in the most regardless of overall expense.

Just an update, I called NYMC today and despite having my secondary and recommendations, my application hadn't been listed as complete. There was a glitch as a non-trad with my non-science recommendation. They were really friendly and nice about the whole thing. So anyone who has been in radio silence as well, it may be worth it to call.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Were you listed as complete on the status website?

For my online portal application status under Secondary Application it says: Your Secondary Application was completed by the Office of Admissions and is currently under review by the Committee for Admissions. (7/28)

I never received a complete email or KIT email. Should I have gotten a complete email?

I never got a complete email either, but my portal shows I'm complete! Hang in there buddy

Got the KIT email on 09/10 but still no hold or anything... Does anyone know if that means they haven't gotten to my app, or does that translate possibly to a silent rejection? Thanks!

It doesn't really mean anything. Hang tight.

Can anyone tell me if NYMC is receptive to update letters? If so, do I send it to the email? Thank you in advance!

I've sent in grade updates, and they've taken them. And yeah, I just sent them to the mdadmit email address. They take a while to respond, though.

Interviewing here on Tuesday. Very short notice, but does anyone want to split a room? I'm a male. Pm me

Anyone who has interviewed already, how is the MMI? Is it mostly standard interview questions or is it a little out of the ordinary?

I just check my application status and saw that they received my application fee on 10/28, but not my secondary. I submitted them both at the same time. Has anyone else had this problem?

Any idea on the number of offers NYMC makes?

ii Today. I was complete on 7/26 (and wasn't put on hold.)

I scheduled an interview for Dec. 9th. They had an opening for this week but being in the midwest that was too tight to swing.
How does the MMI go? Any resources people have for studying up on how they work? I've yet to interview at a college that uses them.

I did. Solved with an email but haven't received any love.
I sent them an email, and all they said in response was that it can take 4-6 weeks after your secondary is submitted before you are considered complete. It doesn't appear that other people have had to wait as long. Perhaps I'm just unlucky.

Anybody know when we'll start to get post-interview decisions?
I interviewed 10/23 and was told "definitely before the holiday break". I checked last years thread and it seems that they released decisions for the first few interview dates around 12/4. So hopefully we'll hear back in the next two-three weeks!

For anyone who interviewed and stayed overnight-- hotel suggestions? There seems to be a Comfort Inn and a La Quinta right near the college. Are either/both of those good?

Waitlisted, interviewed 10/23. Not really sure what I did wrong...

I interviewed here recently and I'm sure I'll be waitlisted or rejected. This school was a spectacularly bad fit AND the MMI went badly.

waitlisted, interviewed beginning of october i think. gonna withdraw from here though, goodluck everyone!!

Those of you that didn't feel it was a "fit" and are withdrawing, what were the reasons?
