2014-2015 Northwestern University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My last name starts with an early-in-the-alphabet letter and I got it last week!
when did you have your primary verified? that could be a factor. anyway I just hope they don't go over the completed application in alphabetical order. It would suck to be me. 😀

Primary was verified in mid-June; MCAT score was received on 7/8.

I got mine today as well 🙂 It seems like it is based on alphabetic order.
So I work at Feinberg as a volunteer research assistant. Does this make me affiliated with Feinberg?
Oh I actually got it on the 24th!!

No way, your name really is MSTPhopeful? Your parents have such specific and strong expectation of you.
Hahaha, why yes. Yes it is.

So I submitted my application this evening and after getting the confirmation email, I have not been able to log into the portal. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

I have not been able to log into the portal.
Haha, maybe you should sing the theme song of the game and see what happens.

"But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive."

Hope the portal is working today, essays are done and I want to submit them!!!

It would appear so. I work at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, which is an academic affiliate of Feinberg, so I have a similar question. I would call the admissions office and get their thoughts. My sense is yes, they will want you to describe your affiliation.

EDIT: I just saw that you submitted, so I guess this doesn't matter!

Ermagerd tell me all about the RIC, they didn't show us it when I was there last year

Secondary received finally. Anyone know when II's went out last year? Do they just have a comparatively later app cycle than everyone else or just send out secondaries late?

Hey, so just submitted my secondary but do not have a site to check my status. Do I get an email later that allows me to check my status or should I already have it? I try to log back in on the supplemental application page, and it says my password has been cleared. THANKS!!

You mean in terms of whether or not you're complete? They'll probably email you Monday that you're complete; I don't think there's something to check your status on yet. I think I submitted last Friday.

You can check your status on the same page you submitted your secondary. Mine now says I'm complete and under review.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in to secondary website today?

What browser are you using? It hasn't been working when I use Safari, but I tried Google Chrome and it worked fine.

I've had problems with chrome and IE. Try going incognito in chrome.

So just got the below email, but I can't figure out where the link is on the website to check my application. Where do you check your application status? THanks!

We have received your supplemental application and fee
or fee waiver to the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.

If you have not already done so, please fully acquaint yourself with our
application process as well as other features of the Feinberg School
of Medicine through our public web site at:
http://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/admissions/index.html

To check on the status of your application, you should frequently
visit the secure web site, which is accessible through the public web pages,

Thank you for your interest in the Feinberg School of Medicine.

EDIT: just found it https://medicalapp.northwestern.edu/

FINALLY! I mustered the motivation to finish this secondary! My last one! Hopefully the delay won't hurt my application too much, but it's better than not submitting at all I suppose.

I'm not sure how Northwestern works compared to other schools, but I've been hardcore struggling with these secondaries (about two week turnaround for all) and I've gotten interviews. I think schools recognize that people working full-time/trying to afford these costs independent of their parents might need some extra time. I wouldn't worry.

I completely agree that for us living in the real world a two hour turn around is a bit much to expect. Thanks for the positive thinking!

Two hour? I'm assuming you meant a two week?

Does anyone know if having an affiliation with the school (such as working for Feinberg) even makes a difference as to how they view your app?

How are people handling the coping question? I'm finding it really tricky to say anything meaningful about how I cope without venturing into problem solving, since I tend to tackle problems immediately haha.

Haha no I mean two hours is crazy fast and they probably wont care at all if it is two weeks.
With most of the interviews I've received, I submitted them between 12-14 days after receiving the secondary. I know this is just anecdotal, but I haven't received a single interview from the schools I've submitted on the first day!

How are people coping with the coping question loll

Well coping is focused more on your own internal processing. I imagined/remembered a prolonged, overwhelming situation and tried to articulate my frame of mind or steps taken to mitigate stress. Just my .02.

How many days did it take Northwestern to download your letters? I'm still marked as submitted/paid but not complete (pending LOR's) 🙁

It took a day for me to be marked complete.

I'm having the same problem. Submitted secondary and paid on 8/4, letters assigned the night before (8/3). Still marked as not having been received. I called the office about this just now and was told the problem was on the AMCAS side (she looked me up and said there was nothing there). I called AMCAS and they said everything is A-OK. 😕 Guess I'll just wait this one out until next week.

Anyone else stuck in LOR limbo? If so, when did you submit?

Hm, Yeah I think it's best to just wait until next week (especially because they haven't started giving out II's yet). I'll be sure to update you if/when my letters get uploaded and I'm marked complete!

anyone else having trouble accessing the supplemental page? i can't seem to log on

Safari works for me, chrome worked the first time, but I think you have to clear search history/cookies to get it to work again?

I love that you guys said this. I was literally working (luckily I got a weekly paycheck in Australia) and then paying for apps. Working throughout the week, and the submitting the next pay period. There was no other way but two a time. And of course I prioritized Texas schools and then top choices so many of mine either had a turn around time of 1-2 weeks. Some only a few days but it's all I could do between work and school! I am sure they can recognize that not everyone is just glued to their computers doing med apps 24/7 with unlimited cash.

hey for the first secondary question, do you guys interpret it as essentially Why Feinberg? and talk more about the unique programs/opportunities available or did you spend more time talking about yourself?

Does Northwestern still have the 2-week deadline for secondaries? Or did they change it?

To the person who got his application waived... how did you do that?! I am applying as a disadvantaged student (grew up in a poor area in Peru).. and cant afford to apply to many schools.... who should i contact?

I'll sign off on your ppwk.

^hope not. about to turn mine in after 15 days, I didn't see any sort of deadline.
