2014-2015 Northwestern University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI for upcoming interviewees- the breakfast is an assortment of fruit, mini bagels, muffins, and pastries (as well as coffee!), and lunch is Chicago deep dish, salad, and brownies. Maybe no one else cares but this is pretty crucial info for me heading into interview day 🙂

Whattt lame. Last year they gave us credit for their hospital cafeteria which has since closed. This year I assumed they would give us credit for the restaurants that they now have instead but I guess not! Oh well.

I forget what my lunch was, But it wasn't deep dish! I had to go hunt that down on my own!

That's better than deep dish. Especially if it was something like potbelly's which started in Chicago.
It was Jersey Mike's for my day, much easier to eat in a suit than deep dish 🙂

That's actually a very good point, messy deep dish + a suit = a recipe for an unfortunate disaster
Same with the baked ziti I had at a different interview. Resulted in a stained tie :/

@questzalcoatl, I am glad to hear about your acceptance--congratulations! For the rest of us. . .serpents are not the only entities with feathers! Emily Dickinson says that "hope is the thing with feathers / that perches in the soul." (Of course, Woody Allen countered, "How wrong Emily Dickinson was! Hope is not 'the thing with feathers.' The thing with feathers has turned out to be my nephew. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich.") 😛

Props to you for knowing who my namesake is 😉

I wonder how long we'll have to wait for the next admissions meeting. Does anyone have any idea of what percentage of students northwestern admits right away? The dean didn't seem to want to give a number.

We had deep dish on our interview day earlier this Monday - there was a meat one and a veggie one, and there were brownies and drinks, everything was delicious 😀

Northwestern was amazing. I really like Chicago and am very anxious to see the decision. He said in about 4 weeks. I am assuming just the beginning of February or maybe just March since they might be ruling on other interviews that happened earlier in January.

Did anyone interview in the first week of January? To my knowledge they haven't had a session since December 18th but they might have taken a break for the holidays.

Congrats to everyone accepted here so far! In anyone's opinion: Just received a late interview invite for late February at another Chicago area medical school. At this point in the cycle, do you think it would be at all worthwhile to send an in the area email to FSM?

Feinberg isn't receptive to ITA emails :/

I just got II half an hour ago, i am so excited!!
There are still lots of dates left, including as soon as this Friday! good luck everyone!
Congrats! Wow this Friday? What a turn around. When is the last date?

Any guesses as to when the admissions meeting will be?

I apologize if the question has been answered before, but can anyone tell me a bit more about the interview? I just got an invite today, and I was wondering if it is traditional, open/closed file, group interview, MMI? Any info at all would be most welcome. Thank you!

Two open file interviews and one "informal" interview with a m4 where you're paired with another applicant. It should say so on your applicant portal.

Interviewed January 9th, deferred until March! Not too upset about it, to quote the email, "I expect that many of the applicants receiving this message will eventually receive an acceptance to FSM. Some will be placed on a waitlist and only a few will be declined. I wish we could have a final decision for you now, but the volume of candidates yet to be seen makes it advisable that we delay."

Good luck to everyone!

Deferred here as well. I really wish we knew the percentage of people who are accepted in March. I want to know how much I should get my hopes up.

Just got my II! Any advice on if I should schedule it as soon as possible(next monday), or can I give myself a breather and an extra week?
Nice! when were you complete and did you ever send an update? And my advice would be to go the soonest that you feel you can perform well, so if that is Monday then go!

Many congratulations, @KGJDMD!! Hope it goes just as you would wish!

For those that got accepted/deferred today did anyone interview after jan. 9?

I was complete toward the end of September, and I sent an update yesterday actually. I got the email comfirming that it was added to my file and about three hours later I got the II. I really think the update had a lot to do with it, especially because I saw that many NW students have teaching experience, and I've been working as a tutor since I applied haha, wish I would have seen that sooner!

When I interviewed they said that out of all interviewees, 25% get admitted on a rolling basis, 25% get accepted in March, and then out of the remaining 50% almost all are put on the waitlist, a very small percent get rejected.

Those are okay odds lol. Thanks

Do you remember if anything was said about waitlist movement? Do many of that 50% waitlisted get in as well?

It's a little early to worry about that don't you think?

I'm pretty sure premature worrying makes up -40% of the content on SDN 😛
This is why I don't mind getting into arguments on SDN. If nobody did then there would be no SDN.
