2014-2015 Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When people say primary WL, does it specifically say "primary" on your letter/email? I just received a letter saying that I'm on the WL, but it doesn't say anything about primary.

I don't believe so, but I will edit this post to let you know as soon as I get a chance to take a look at it! (I wouldn't sweat it though. I think you would have been placed on the "alternate list" if you were a step below wait list status.)

EDIT: Yes, that was correct - the official letter says, "You are currently on a waiting list for a place..." Hope that helps/puts you at ease!
THANKS!

Withdrew my application from this fantastic place last week after being unconditionally accepted in March (not before quite the rigamarole with dodmerb). The very best of luck to those of you who decide to matriculate here, and hopefully someone comes off the AF waitlist soon! Cheers.

Hello all! I received the letter that I'm on the wait list :cat: last interview group. I'm just wondering if there is always an accompanying email. I didn't receive one and want to contact them ASAP if that means they don't have my correct email address on file. Did everyone else get an email?

See a few posts up. Looks like they didn't send an accompanying email with the final batch of wait list notifications. Also, if/when you get an offer for acceptance, it'll come by phone (plus, the II was sent by email, so if you got that, you're good)!
Good point! So much worrying!

So, if I'm on the WL and currently in the process of waiting for my waiver approval, students who are physically qualified (alternates and WL people) will get accepted over me correct? I submitted all of my paperwork ~ 4 weeks ago and my nut allergy disappeared, so there's really no reason for the waiver to get denied....

Class of 2019s. Posting this listing on behalf of my landlord (ortho at Walter Reed). His friend is being PCS'd and is looking to rent his condo. This is the same building that I live in. Little pricy (not necessarily pricy for the area though, it's actually right around average for downtown Bethesda), but a great location and walking distance to literally everything. If you're moving with a SO/fiance/wife/husband and you'll be one two incomes you'll love it.

The listing:

Great condo in a great location! Completely renovated 6th floor
condominium in the Crescent Plaza, steps from all that Bethesda has to
offer.

750 square feet,1 bedroom,1 bath condo (largest one bedroom in the building)
Wood floors, crown molding, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops
Stacked washer/dyer in the unit
Assigned and gated underground parking spot
Fitness center on ground floor
1 mile from WalterReed and USUHS campus and steps from Bethesda metro

$2325 per month for one year lease, $2250 per month for multi year.
Rent includes partial utilities (heating, cooling, gas).

Again, congrats, and good luck with everything before school starts.

Well, after a long, long debate about the choices, I've decided to withdraw from my AF spot at USUHS - not a decision I've come to without some regret, as I really did love the school, but one that I know is right for me and my family. Here's hoping the wait list movement benefits one of you SDN'ers who are waiting on news!

Do you think movement will begin happening immediately after 4/30?
I was hoping it would happen before to be honest. My wife is becoming more and more settled here, and the longer before I know, the harder this move will be for her 🙁.

Was there more by this point last year?
Last year I don't think so. The year before most definitely.

Navy specifically was very slow last year compared to history. That said that's just from SDNers. Not exactly a scientific cross section.

Question: I was accepted to one branch then moved to the wait list for that same branch (PHS for NIH lost funding for one spot). If I don't get off the wait list and end up reapplying, will USUHS still be counted as an acceptance when reapplying? (eg. secondary apps ask if you were accepted by another allopathic med school in previous cycles)

Ouch buddy... that really really sucks. Good luck though, hopefully you won't have to reapply.

I would call the admissions office and talk to the matrons and Dean Saguil directly about your question on reapplying.

Oh man... I'm incredibly sorry to hear that happened to you. Are you dead-set on doing the NIH PHS track or would you be willing to commit to a different branch? I hope that they can still find space for you in PHS this year, but I'm also assuming that USUHS would let you switch to another service's waitlist if you requested it. PHS has so few spots to begin with, and you might not have to reapply if you can see yourself in one of the other services.

Definitely call Dr. Saguil either way to discuss your situation and possible next steps. I can't imagine that your current situation counts as an acceptance for the purposes of next year's app, considering that you're not turning down a USUHS acceptance to reapply to other schools. I wish you the best of luck.

Oh man, that is literally the thing I would have nightmares about. I really, really hope they can get you squared away happily in the PHS or another branch.

Way to go, Starbucko!!! Finally, Finally, Finally got my medical waiver from DODMERB today. I'm taking that as a good sign 🙂 Now I just need to get one of those calls advising that I am off the waitlist and I will be a happy camper. The positive is that I have been accepted to my in-state med school, but USHUS is far and away my top choice. :wacky:

Received the call (Navy)! This is my top choice so I will be attending in the fall! I hope there is a lot more movement for those that are waiting, Good luck everyone!

Congrats! Mind sharing your stats (publicly or privately) for the rest of us Navy waitlisters?

Got the call today for Army! I am in complete shock. After two rough application cycles and NINE years as a pre-med, words cannot describe how excited I am to be joining you this fall. I live in the area already and have a family member at USUHS, so if anyone has any questions or wants to meet up pre-orientation PM me!

So I had offered this up before, but then dropped off the face of the earth (my reminders from this site stopped coming through). For anyone looking for a realtor, whether renting or buying, I'm including info below. He knows USUHS students, so gets military. Shoot him an email or phone call if you are still searching, and good luck!
