2014-2015 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

How often does Iowa release acceptances? The other two schools where I interviewed only release them once a month. Seriously, I'm going insane.
4-6 weeks after interview according to admissions

Hey! Does anyone have any advise on how to get from the Cedar Rapids airport to Iowa City - will be staying at the U of I Hotel. Also, do most people taxi from the hotel to Carver or take the UI bus?

I've looked at the admissions website where taxis and shuttles are listed, but I am just curious as to what other people did.

Thank you!

These numbers may be outdated, so call ahead to confirm.

The first is the Airport Shuttle Service (1-800-725-8460). They charge $28 (one way) and $51 (round trip). They are located within the airport and while it is recommended that you make a reservation ahead of time, you can also get a shuttle after you arrive at Cedar Rapids.

The second is Airport Express (1-800-383-2219). They charge $26 (one way) and $47 (round trip). They are not located within the airport so you will have to make reservations ahead of time.

There are also taxis that will take you from the airport to Iowa City. They generally charge about $45 (one way). I'm told if you call in advance, you can get better rates see http://www.number1cab.com/ - $30 one way (I'm told)

Renting is another fine option: http://www.eiairport.org/at-the-airport/transportation/

Lol, no II yet.. but I just received a flyer inviting me to Multicultural Visit Day at the university in the mail today. I'm from CA, too. Hoping to hear from them soon!!

Your numbers may be a bit outdated, as far as the airport shuttle is concerned. I took the shuttle a few weeks ago, and it was $70 round trip. I called quite a few cab companies as well to check the price, and they were significantly more expensive than the Airport Shuttle.

For those who interviewed today, did they say anything about when they will send out acceptances/decisions?

I interviewed on 27th but they said 1 month ( precisely 4 -6 weeks via the secondary page)

Has anyone been rejected pre-interview? When do those go out? :-/

Don't give up just yet, I submitted really early in the cycle and I just got a II this week.

BTW, does anybody else have a December interview planned here? Those were the only dates available to me. All of my interviews have been this month, with the exception of one next week. December just feels so late, bleh. How late does the interview season run at Iowa?

Last year they interviewed through January. Final pool notifications were released at the end of January. Wait list ranking released mid-March.

Congrats on the interview invite!!

Ah, sorry. It was what I had :/

December 5th for me. I am just happy to be interviewing here so I'm excited either way! And on the bright side it gives me plenty of time to arrange travel and a hotel. Good luck!

Congrats on the interview invite!!

Want to explain this some? I am not sure exactly what you mean by final pool notifications. Do you mean the "mass acceptance" part?

Also, I was curious about how important being and in-state student for the CCOM was? As in, what are the differences in average MCAT scores and GPA between admitted in-state and out-of-state students. I have no idea if anyone even knows this information.

They notify students about waitlists/rejections at the end of January; some people are accepted then. I suppose if you are not rejected, then you are in the final pool. I don't really remember more than that (and I can no longer access my account from last year, so I can't read the specific letter they sent out).

They said at my interview they wait to accept about a third or more of all their spots from the final pool, which they will notify you about in March. So I imagine January is when they tell you if you'll be in that final pool?

Also I heard from a recruiter a year or so ago that if you're instate and you have at least a 30 MCAT, a 3.5 GPA you get an automatic interview invite. As to the averages for those instate people, I have no idea. But honestly once you're in school the averages matter a lot less, and if you have gotten an interview you clearly already have the stats to be there!

My interview was moved up to this coming Monday. I am so excited.

I've never known anyone in-state that didn't get an interview regardless of MCAT, fwiw.

I heard if you're OOS and haven't received an interview by now, it's not looking good. This is true? I heard it from someone who applied last year.

That's not what I got from the interview. If you have decent stats and EC's, I would stay hopeful since you haven't gotten a rejection.

Does anyone know of a good resource to prepare for interview questions? I just got my interview offer today. Interviewing 12-1.

Congrats! Could you share with us your completion date and if you are IS or OOS?

Have a great visit!!! If they happen to mention when the next wave of post-interview decisions are coming out, let us know 😉

Sadly, I'm not sure there is a good answer for you on this :/ When I interviewed Friday they told us to that it would be around 6 weeks until we hear back . . . which could be more, or less, or who knows! Haha. Waiting stinks.

I'm guessing what they meant was for those of you at your interview date. When I interviewed on 10/15, they told us a month. But who knows....

That's for sure what they meant yes.

I was complete on 10-9 (retook the MCAT in late August, so waited on my secondary until I got my score back). I am IS, did my BS at the U of I, and MS at Iowa State.

Only one week since my interview and I'm checking my email.

Admissions people talked to the tour guides last Thursday and told us that we are halfway through all of the interviews. So whether you are IS or OOS there are still plenty of spots for y'all! Haven't heard anything about acceptances but iowa does have a tendency to hold off on acceptances until later. So don't worry if it is radio silence right now! Also, how long it takes to get accepted doesn't have a huge effect on scholarship money as I know several people in my class who got generous scholarships later on (merit based)

Anyways back to pharm!
Good luck everyone!

I hate to be that guy, but do you mean interviews or interview invitations? Taking the extreme example, it is possible that a school has scheduled out 100% of its interviews and is only currently halfway through actually conducting them.

Any oos have gotten IIs yet?

i was complete 7/19

Good question. Not exactly sure but I'll try to find out more. The school might not have a hard number of invites left as it depends on how many people actually accept the interview invitation. Does anyone who recently scheduled an interview know how far out the dates went? That could help figure it out.

You guys are nerding out pretty hard on this one

Guys, remember they said they pull most of their acceptances from the final p pool in March. I've pretty much given up hope of hearing until then
