Does anybody have any additional information on areas where med students live? I saw a post that said most of them live a good ways away from the medical school, but no other specifics besides that.

Brickell, midtown, south beach, coral gables, coconut grove and a few spots right by school

there's a section on the website that outlines all the major areas where students live with a list of pros and cons. personally, most of the people I know at Miami live in Brickell

So I have an MD and MD/mph interview end of the month and just wanted some clarification. I'm abroad right now so its difficult to call the admissions office. Is it for sure that I will only have one interview that will count for both programs? For example, if I interview at the Miami campus, the following day will just be a tour of the campus in palm beach county and no interview? Just want to make sure!! Thanks!

Yes! You either have an interview day 1 or day 2, but you don't get 2 interviews. This was my most amazing experience in terms of interviews so far though, so don't be stressed!

Hey guys, I heard that the Step 1 and Step 2 scores for the first batch of students from the MD/MPH program just came out and they were incredibly high, does anyone mind sharing what those numbers were? I can't remember from my interview (I just remember hearing they were very high).

Do you think you could talk a bit more about your interview experience for the md and md/mph programs? I have mine in November and Miami is by far my top choice. Def don't wanna screw it up

Hi bear2roo, no problem!
So I interviewed day 2 (I was applying MD & MDMPH). You don't know when you're interviewing until you get there. The person you interview with is one of the three people who chose to bring you to the interview day…so this person is already incredibly sold on you. We were told by the Dean this fact and also that few people who interview at Miami are out right rejected; they just put you on a "point" scale after you interview and the first 20 people on that point scale are accepted each time they send out acceptances.
Ummm the days are INCREDIBLY non stressful, I thought at least, for everyone involved. No one's watching you in order to "rate you" or "reject you." You're just there to figure out whether or not this is the right fit for you. Bring shoes you can walk in too. They give you a light breakfast and you're out by 12 or 1 the first day I believe. The second day isn't too long either.
Also, the interview was also pretty non stressful and relatively short (like 30-40 minutes); your interviewer is probably pretty interested in you and learning more about you and how well of a fit you are at Miami. And Miami is probably a great fit for many people interested in medicine, so I wouldn't worry about that. You're also told a lot about the school before you interview.
If I could re-do my day, I would probably try to enjoy myself more and also try to figure out if I wanted to do MD only or MDMPH. Coming out of the interview, I'm really not that sure and I wish I could have had more exposure to fourth year MDMPH students. For those people who haven't applied MDMPH, I would definitely try to learn more about the program while I was there at UMiami as their four year program seems pretty exceptionally amazing.

Can any current students comment on how they feel about the grading system? I like that it is P/F but have qualms that they include the numerical score.

OOS applicant....haven't done secondary yet. sGPA: 3.97, MCAT: 36, good ECs. Worth applying? Do I have any chance? I see they don't interview many OOS applicants and I would be applying pretty late. Seems like a cool school though. Just curious! Any advice?

They don't have any bias towards IS vs OOS since they aren't funded by the state anymore. Residency status doesn't matter. As far as how late it is, I really don't know! Good luck!

Get you secondary in fast. But you still have a great shot with your stats.

You'll never know if you don't apply. As I've learned from experience, some schools are remarkably good at reviewing secondaries quickly while some are really slow, and many do not go through secondaries in chronological order.

You've posted everywhere. Pretty much your high numbers don't count you out now but so many applications have been in front of yours at this point so statistically it's going to be more uphill. Good luck!

So to everyone else who interviewed already, October 15?? So close!

haha I know I have. My bad. I'm just freaking out and it's all the sudden hitting me.

Per just year's thread, it looks like people's status changes post interview. Does anyone's say that a final decision has been reached or something like that?

Mine hasn't changed yet. Still says it will be reviewed for a final time.

So, has anyone been rejected yet pre-interview? I'm starting to think my hold-like status is a kiss of death 🙁

How many interview days have there been so far? Does anyone know?
Not sure, but when I had to pick an interview day, they only showed mondays and fridays. Did yours or anyone else's status change on the portal?

Post-interview status change on the portal:
"A final decision has been reached by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine on your application. Contact the admissions ofice 305-243-3234 or [email protected] if you do not receive a telephone call, an e-mail or a letter within seven days."

Mine just changed too today. I checked yesterday and it was still the previous status.

Mid-september. I think it was during the second week of interviews.

Jeez. mine changed to that same status.

Guess I'm staying up till 12 AM ET!

does your status change pre-interview? or will it be "Your application is currently under review"?

Cupcakesandcadavers-- I think you should check on previous postings on this SDN regarding that…there was a positive status (I got too) that a lot of candidates who got interviews received. I don't remember what that is though.

I'm pretty sure mine went directly from application has been scored to interview invite. If there was a different status in between, it wasn't there on the times I checked my portal.

i feel silly because i even commented on one of them lolzzzz
hoping for a changed status soon! have a good friend at miami and I've heard great things!

If I remember correctly, I believe they said during the interview day that they will call the first batch of 20 acceptances shortly after 5 pm on the 15th. So try and get some sleep 'til tomorrow!

Lol I've just been watching the clock tick until 12 AM ET! Suppose I'm wasting my time then 🙁

Hopefully many of us will be getting some good news tomorrow and celebrating tomorrow night. So better rest up!

If no status change by midnight, probably no phone call today right?

I called, as of now, Miami hasn't figured out who's accepted or not. Their meeting is running late.

Did they say when they would be calling? Would it still tonight?
And this is for people who interviewed before when?

You might find out tomorrow; they might do calls, they might not. They said definitely email by tomorrow.
I'm not sure; I interviewed a while ago.
