Ah! Hearing back today! *bites nails*
anybody take a taxi from the airport to the school? how much $ am I looking at? Thinking of the public trans option with the train it looks like but it will be late at night and I'm a little scared...
Yes, thats exactly what I did after my interview. If you do it promptly enough after the interview and you don't have very much to 'update' on (say, maybe a handful of things) it isn't a bad idea to send promptly after the interview and add in some zingers about what new things you learned about the program on interview day, new things you liked about the school, etc, and make it an update/thank you hybrid.
I'm not on the committee, but (a) I'm a current student and (b) as I understand it the committee is generally open to new information, so long as its meaningful as per my previous post 🙂
Good Luck!
Decisions will be released after 5 pm EST so you still have a bit of time!my status says a final decision has been reached on my application but I wasn't contacted at all on what that decision is. Are we supposed to contact the admissions office or should I be expecting an e-mail or something later today?
Alum here. LeftShifted is right on the money. If your update is legitimate, it helps. Especially if it's a new semester of grades, an award, a publication, a recent medical experience (international trip, program), etc...
congrats! what was your interview date (if you don't mind me asking)?Accepted via phone call! Freaked out since it was before 5.
October 27! My status changed to "final decision" on Monday morning.congrats! what was your interview date (if you don't mind me asking)?
nice! observation: judging from interview/acceptance dates, it seems like there's a delay of one whole acceptance period thus far. i.e. Oct. 27th/28th hear back Nov. 19th, Nov. 10th/11th likely hear back December 10th. ugh my nails/fingers/heart can't handle this....October 27! My status changed to "final decision" on Monday morning.
congrats! did you interview oct. 27th as well? just trying to see if my 1 acceptance period delay theory has any weight hahaI don't believe it. ACCEPTED for MD! Just got the wonderful phone call and I feel like my mind just made it up because I wanted it so bad. Need that email now to confirm that I didn't just dream the whole thing up lol
Yep - interviewed Oct. 27th!congrats! did you interview oct. 27th as well? just trying to see if my 1 acceptance period delay theory has any weight haha
Congrats!Accepted, both programs. Interviewed Oct. 27 and 28.
My top choice...
Why did you feel like it wasn't a good fit?Alternate listed. I will be withdrawing because this really didn't feel like a good fit for me. Best of luck to all of you!
I will PM you!Why did you feel like it wasn't a good fit?
When are the merit scholarships given out?
I will PM you!
For accepting the offer, do we need to wait for the acceptance package in the mail or can we just shoot back an email?
Great! Thank you!

can any students comment on living situations and expenses? I will be married so I will need my own place, is it going to be crazy expensive?
If you are two people both contributing to the rent then no...
Define crazy expensive ? What type of amenities? Location?
My spouse will work and pay for all rent, food, living expenses while I'm in school. We will only take out loans for tuition. It won't be "two people contributing" because it's out of the same pot, not to mention I will have no income.
Would just be looking for a 1 bedroom or even studio not too far from the school but safe. I would say anything over $1500 a month would be crazy expensive. Is it possible?

Miami is not a cheap city.
That being said, you don't need to live in a 34 floor highrise in downtown Miami (which many medical students do.) It depends on location - I do not live in downtown miami (the actual name of that part of the city is Brickell) - I live a very short commute (8 minutes) to the school, and I pay $1100/month for a 950 sq ft. 1 bed / ba. I would be paying this much to share an apartment if I were living in Brickell. There are medical students living in all parts of the city - Miami Beach, Brickell, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Health District (where the medical school is) Wynwood (Miami's version of Williamsburg Brooklyn, except with less gentrification and more poverty)
Left shifted - what neighborhood ? How did you find it? I've lived in 4 different neighborhoods during my 8 years in Miami and I think that 1100 for that square footage is the exception, not the rule.... What do you think?
I don't think it's an exception by any means - a number of my classmates are enjoying single apartments in the range of 800-900 in the window of 1000-1200.
To people considering []_[]Med, people will tell you that the market in Miami moves fast, and in fact it does - I started looking for an apartment in April because I didn't want to be pressured into something I couldn't afford.
@DrZeke I PM'ed you.
Anyone know How long it takes to go from a status of 'reviewed' until you hear back about receiving an interview?

The acceptance letter said we had to give a non-refundable $100 deposit to hold our spot. Where exactly do we make this payment?
Any chance you could PM me why it wasn't a good fit as well? Thank you!I will PM you!
