2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interviewed the 21st and still have the "final review" status without a decision made....guess that means January 7 :/

Has anyone's status changed to the "final decision has been made" one?

I'm not getting a decision today, but definitely wanted to pitch in and say, that I also got a pretty odd interview. I wouldn't say it was conversational or warm...just very random questions. Anyways, good luck everyone who is waiting!!!

Definitely possible...it was soo hard writing the interviewer a thank you note.

Silence is better than the wait lost LOL... It's actually all the same tho really you still fighting for the top of the pool

Yeah, but you know you can never really predict an interview result based on your impression. It could just be that guy's style to put you under pressure.

I'm not sure, but I think you're still better off not being officially wait-listed.

as of 5:10pm ET, no phone call, no email (WL), and my status still reads:

"""Your applications and interview report will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Decisions are usually made within 4-6 weeks of the interview. You will be notified by cell phone, e-mail and/or standard mail."

Interview was Nov. 10th/11th.

Looks like January 7th/10th is going to be a big day; I hope they expand the accepted pool to 40, else its going to be hella tough for 2 (3?) pools of interview candidates (really, 2 months worth) to fight for 20 spots. ugh.

It wasn't that it was hard questions, or his style...just that the questions don't seem to hold any relevance. Seemed more like the interviewer was uncertain of what he was doing, and more or less wasting time as he didn't think I belonged there(he seemed condescending). Of course, I could totally be off about my impression 🙂

i tend to agree with this; at least there is hope of getting a really high score and being top 20 (40..? Please?) now. being wait-listed would mean your score is final, and you are banking on all future candidates scoring lower than your allocated score.

Ok it's been 15 mins who's calling

Well your status says "accepted", so you can't be that bad. I thought my interview went well and I have zero acceptances. Applied late though.

Well... Future candidates will likely have lower score pre-interview as they send interviews based on score... And u don't have to be higher than ALL just within the top ~140 remaining.

hmm true. i just like having hope right now instead of a final wl status haha.

but you make very good points.

well, its be a fun few hours of back and forth! i'll see you guys back on this thread in jan. if we all get in (and go), we should wear our SDN names on first day of classes,- we can laugh about the mishap that was the 10th of December.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty damn annoyed that I'm going to have to wait an additional month for a decision now. They should announce it when they say they're going to announce it, or not post any dates at all.

your sentiment is shared, but what can we do? our position is rather helpless/hapless at the moment haha

I completely agree... What also sucks is we will be compared to many more applicants then...

I'm also really annoyed cuz I signed up for an October interview but their system messed up and didnt save my date so I got stuck with an interview over a month later... These things hurt you in a rolling admissions like this

"Remember, remember, the 10th of December."

I obviously don't work for Miami Miller, but I'd be shocked if they accept a smaller portion of applicants than normal in January. I'm sure they account for the larger pool. To do otherwise would be incredibly incompetent.

They did make calls today. Not sure for which interview dates exactly, but I got accepted to the MD program Nov. 19th (interview Oct 27th-28th). Today, I got a call that I got accepted to the MD/MPH program.

You call? Any news

yup, they said my file is still in the process of being reviewed and that I would hear final news after the holidays.

from the looks of it, they are still on the oct. 27th/28th dates. @katefromlost , did you interview in oct. as well? i'm sorry about the wait-list :/

The wait list sucks, but there is a lot of movement off of the wait list. I was WLed last year, never got off but towards the end I was in the top 5. I interviewed early February. Reapplicant with an improved app this year, still haven't heard back yet though 🙁

Can anyone go over what the interview day was like?

Also, it seems that they accept a relatively large % of interviewees. I'm guessing based on MSAR as they only interviewed like 500 for 190 spots. Are they changing it this year?

The interview day was fairly typical, the office of admissions gives gives a presentation about the school and all of the opportunities it offers, then you're split into two groups with one group going on a student led tour and the other group having their interviews. The interview is open file and the interviewer is one of the people who scored your application. Then the groups switch. There's a nice catered lunch and time to talk to current students and then the day concludes with a talk from the (associate?) dean of admissions. The biggest difference I noticed about the interview day at Miami is they give you a ton of information about opportunities associated with the school (dual-degree programs, specialty centers, ROTC, research opportunities, etc.), way more than any other school I interviewed at which I really liked.

I believe they said this year they will interview somewhere in the 600's and end up accepting a little over 300 for 200 spots (150 MD + 50 MD/MPH).

Cool thanks!

I'm interviewing in Jan and trying to get my ducks in a row. Might move up my interview since I got slammed with work deadlines for the week of my interview.

Hey guys, does anyone know who to call at Miami regarding prerequisite questions? Would that just be the admissions office?

Yes the admissions office can answer your questions about pre requisites.

I just finished and submitted my secondary at 1:30am! Lol I know it's already December and late in the game for a secondary but I really like this school! Hopefully my $75 wasn't to waste. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to process the secondary? And do I have any shots at all since it's rolling admission? Thanks!
