dont you all think 500 words per essay is a bit much? im considering just using the 1200-2000 character limit that most other secondaries require...any thoughts?

If you can summarize it within that many characters, I think you should. I am going to be using anywhere from 200-350 words. I am sure adcoms will appreciate that as well haha.

Question about the Coursework Grid:
For AP credit, how are you guys entering the information? For example, my AP Lit class counts as an English course. Do I enter it like so:

[HIGH SCHOOL NAME] --- [COURSE IT TRANSFERED AS AT UNIVERSITY] ---- [YEAR I TOOK IT IN HIGH SCHOOL] ---- [AP]

The secondary's instructions on entering AP coursework wasn't clear to me. Thanks!

I also received the secondary today! Miami is one of my top choices, so I'm really excited!

what do you all think is considered as humanities? would human sexuality count, or a foreign language or history ap credit?

I would assume you use university that gave you credit for the institution and the year it shows up under on your transcript, which would most likely be your freshman year.

It says to put the institution that gave you the credit, so your undergrad. I put my university, the course code, the year i started undergrad, and then the grade as it appears on my transcripts.

If we have courses planned for the coming fall and spring, do we leave the grade blank or do they want us to write something specific in there?

from the website, "For coursework yet to be taken, type ANTICIPATED for the “institution”. For IP or ANTICIPATED courses, leave the grade column blank" so I think you just leave the grade section empty!

how strict is miami about 2 quarters of biochem? that's a real crummy requirement. can i substitute a quarter of biochem with an extra quarter of ochem? my last quarter of ochem had biochem in it anyway.

for some reason I read the instruction, "for the school that gives you AP credit" the wrong way at first, and thought it meant high school. Now I get that it definitely means my university! Thank you

Honestly though, what is the point of us going through course work on AMCAS if all of these secondaries just ask for it all over again?

from what ive seen on other secondaries, humanities can also be foreign language courses! maybe call or email the admissions office just in case?

Oh thanks, I must have missed that. Could you tell me where exactly you found that on the website?

also this is bs that there isnt a biracial ethnicity option wtf 🙁.

Does anyone know how many people tend to complete the secondaries? Just curious.

Also, does anyone know if Miami requires a biochem lab? People on last years thread said this, but I don't know for sure about this year. I'm not entirely sure after looking on the website.

I do not believe so - the secondary has "Biochem +/- Lab" whereas for physics and bio and chem it says "X + Lab"
so to me this means, the biochem prereq could be with or without a lab!

No biochem lab required according to the MSAR.

I've heard usually no more than two weeks. I've been completing mine as fast as I can. Though Miami's is long... I'm taking the weekend and more for this one!

Can anyone speak on the behavioral sciences requirement? My school is a UC so we run on a quarter system. I have searched the threads and no one really talks about it. I emailed the admissions office and they said introductory behavioral science courses do not count. What??? It doesn't say that anywhere on their website. So confused. They don't really specify what counts for it, especially with a broad categorization like humanities.

I took a Introductory Sociology course at a community college. One introductory Archaeology course, a behavioral science under AMCAS. I also have AP History credit from high school (Miami accepts AP) and took a foreign language course in college, only needed one class. Does anyone know if that is fine?

Any way to preview the application? :nailbiting:

EDIT: I guess after you click submit, you can see a preview. Hopefully it is what it actually looks like when ADCOM see it.

Finished and submitted secondary just now! Did not take as long as I thought because my school made me "prewrite" general secondary app essays as a requirement for them to write me a cover letter, and it turns out two of them fit for Miami's essays. I wish y'all nothing but the best as we all move forward!

this is me being neurotic but.. did you guys actually write anything in the email that you're suppose to send with your picture? just your AMCAS ID?

Are you guys compiling hours in the volunteering question, or just listing dates?

Can anyone comment on how strict Miami is with regards to the 2 science LOR requirement? could a PI who supervised your research (received credit for the research) count?

I compiled my hours and listed them by volunteer activity (chronologically by start month). But I made sure to indicate how often/long I did each activity for.
