2014-2015 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied here on August 3rd (after AMCAS verification). I received application received email on August 4th, but still havnt received any secondary application email. Is this normal? Did all of you guys get the secondary at least 10 days or more after submitting your verified primary to here?

II!

OOS, MD/MPH applicant. 32/3.5. Nontrad, Veteran, well traveled, Master's Degree, tons of extracurriculars - research, nonprofit founder, clinical and nonclinical volunteering in US and abroad. Complete 7/22.
Awesome! Congrats! I also applied MD/MPH. Are they interviewing you for both MD only & MD/MPH? I was compete a week later so maybe I'll hear next week!

Has anyone heard back that applied both MD and MD/MPH?

2 day interview. First day MD interview at Miami Dade County campus and second at Palm Beach County campus for MD/MPH. So yea, both MD and MD/MPH.

I'm a reapplicant (not at UM) and I've had a few interviews, but never a multi-day one!

That's pretty cool. I didn't realize they had multiple campuses.

edit: I just realized that is where you spend the clinical years. Nvm

Any idea how long it takes for photos to upload?

I sent mine in the first time ~ 7/20, but didn't have my AMCAS number in the subject line. Tried again - with my AMCAS number in the subject line - last week and it still hasn't shown up on my secondary. I don't want to pester the admissions office, but I would like my application to be reviewed sooner rather than later!

Just submitted the secondary. One of my top choices. OOS, cGPA 3.83, sGPA 3.82, MCAT 35 (12 PS, 11 VR, 12 BS), top 10 undergrad. Very hopeful

I did pretty much the same thing. I submitted for the second time on 7/31 with my number in the subject line, and they marked it as received on 8/7. I wouldn't worry yet.

Congrats to all you lucky folks with II's!

I was curious to know how long y'alls apps were under review/how long you had the been reviewed status before you received the invite?

II! For MD and MD/MPH. I was complete 7/15 and under review for a week, then had the status saying I would hear b/w August and March. Stats: 32/3.9.

Does anyone else who has received an II know where they're flying to and how they're planning on getting b/w the campuses?

I'm flying into MIA and leaving from PBI. I'll have a rental car to travel between the locations. Depending on when you're out there I could give you a lift!

Got an II for MD and MD/MPH today. About an hour ago.

Anyone know how long it takes on public transit from the main campus to the regional campus?

How long did it take everyone recently to get their photo put up? I submitted my photograph to both emails about 8 days ago and it's not up yet.

Does anyone know the significance of the status change from "currently being reviewed" to "applicants will be invited to interview based on their point total"? Is it like Baylor where it will switch only if you are going to receive an interview?

Based on last year there seems to be a correlation. Not sure if it is concrete though.

No. Status change does not indicate incoming II like Baylor. You could either be invited or not with the status.

What if it never switches to the "applicants will be invited to interview based on their point total" status? I've been complete with the "currently being reviewed" status since ~7/24 :/

For the question asking about the most influential experience to pursue medicine, you guys think it's ok that I wrote about my most recent experiences of surgery shadowing, about how they completely reassured and enlightened me, and shown me that I'm not squeamish to surgeries and to keep an open mind for med school? Is it possible to interpret the question to answer it that way?

I finalized the response a few weeks ago but now thy it's time to submit I'm not so sure..

I'm in the same situation.. I started working as an ER scribe and CNA in the first week of May and this is the most significant clinical experience I have had but I feel this is too recent to talk about. My previous clinical experiences were just volunteering and shadowing and nothing out of the ordinary.

Exactly how I feel. I wonder if this question is open to interpretation. I really hope so.

I'm in a similar situation, I just recently started a job at a medical university lab and I've had some interaction with clinicians in the lab and attended grand rounds lectures where they discuss bizarre cases. Not sure if I should list this as clinical experience or not

How long did it take people's photos to show up?

8 days. I sent the photo in six days before my secondary and got a reply stating they had added it a day later. The photo section section didn't have a check mark after I submitted the secondary, so I had to re-send the picture.

I haven't received the secondary yet. AMCAS verified Aug 1st and I received the acknowledgement a day or two later. Anybody else in this situation still?

Debating whether to add this. The secondary is a bit of a whopper, but perhaps I'll suck it up and go for it. The school seems to be a good fit!

Hey guys, I submitted my secondary today but I didn't get any sort of prompt about paying with my FAP waiver. It's not listed on the application status portal either. Did anybody have this problem too? Did they use my FAP waiver automatically when I was sent a secondary? Technically I'm still not complete because they haven't marked my photo as received yet.

too late to submit a secondary? was hesitant because of humanities requirements but i have rejigged my schedule for senior year to fit a semester of psych and sociology, haha

Check the secondary email, this may have been one of the schools that asked you to send a copy of your FAP email. I can't remember correctly.

For people who received both regular MD and MD/MPH interviews, please help me here:

Please check your email for the "Medical School Interview Confirmation."

Does it mention anything about regular MD and MD/MPH or does it only mention MD/MPH? My email subject only says MDMPH Program and it only mentions MD/MPH in the email body even though I was invited for both regular MD and MDMPH. What does yours look like?

Has anyone else had problems submitting their secondary? After I gave my payment info, the confirmation page wouldn't load, so I don't think my payment ever processed. And now the page for checking my secondary status won't load either.

Nvm it worked. It's hard to have any patience left after slaving over that ridiculous secondary

I don't remember having to send them anything regarding FAP. I'm pretty sure it was applied automatically and I was complete as soon as they uploaded the picture.

thanks! I guessed that's what happened since there wasn't anything in the secondary invitation email about it.

My status finally changed to "Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Committee review. Applications that have been reviewed and scored by the Committee will be considered for interviews during the entire interview cycle (September - April)."

Phew, I'm relieved. I was beginning to think the other status was some sort of permanent hold if it didn't change.

When were you complete? I am still waiting for that status change :/

How long does it take them to send secondaries? I've already pre-written everything. Just waiting for the vessel now.
