Anybody here have "A final decision has been made" status yet?
How long was your update?Yes! I got an II after sending an update letter. n=1, but it's possible.

Not yet...I have a feeling I won't find out this week.
Just remember that today was a federal holiday and I'd guess that the admissions office was closed today. My portal changed the Monday before i was accepted (two days) and I know that people had portal changes up until Wednesday morning on the Wed that decisions were released. I would say that there is plenty of time for portals to be updated!Anybody here have "A final decision has been made" status yet?

1 paragraph. Do not make it longer than 1 page. Clear and concise is better than long-winded.How long was your update?
I'm planning on sending one, but not sure if one page is too long (as opposed to, say, condense the update into one paragraph).
flit, same here. fingers, toes and generally all flexible digits crossed for the 5th of december crew . 🙂"A FINAL DECISION HAS BEEN REACHED ... "

Final decision has been reached for me as well.
Whoa, lucky! You interviewed after me I think...but I still have the "review" statement. Good luck everyone!!!!
radio silence here as well...i don't know what's going on.
Since I stalked the threads for awhile, it seems they can start the calls anywhere from minutes before 5 up until like 5:30. I think someone once called and they said a committee meeting was running late or something along those lines. I hope this helps!radio silence here as well...i don't know what's going on.

I can't put it any more eloquently than @theredbird did (no surprise, seeing as he stole it from the POTUS 😉).sorry 🙁 hang in there. this is my 2nd application cycle- was rejected everywhere last year.
as obama put it last night: "amazing what you can bounce back from when you have to"

But seriously, Miami told us their wait list usually has movement. There's still a chance and we're all rooting for you!
Thanks guys, I'll try to keep my head up.
Gotta ask and please don't take this the wrong way...What's your red flag or thing that brings down your app in your opinion?
Your GPA looks extremely solid, and you had a 32 and now a 36 on the MCAT.
The one thing that I can point to is the lack of research during my 4 years of undergrad. My interviewer was a researcher, and not a physician, who was probing (and to an extent grilling) me for not doing research during undergrad. I very recently began working on a clinical research project, and will include it in my next update. I have probably an above average amount of clinical experience and shadowing experience.
And just for safe measure, no issues with academic integrity or any criminal history.
I do have more interviews this cycle than I did last cycle (only UM last cycle).
To be honest, i was almost certain i'd be wait-listed just due to nature of the interview/interviewer that I had this cycle. Definitely was not as conversational and warm as it was last cycle.
That's unfortunate. IMHO, if an applicant has other projects and interests that make him/her well-rounded or dedicated, they don't need to do research. Let's face it... tons of people hate research and do it just to check a box.
Agreed. I prefer shadowing and observing surgeries to data collection for a restrospective clinical study. I do have an interest in doing basic science research, however the undergraduate research positions available to me were quite scarce and for the most part filled with pre-meds who were more aware of research becoming more of a silent requirement for medical school than I was.
Through my recent surgical observation experience, I have really become fascinated with the field of Ophthalmology and has pretty much boosted UM as an even better fit than it already was, due to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the opportunity to do research in the field.
Now you're speaking my language. 😉 Good luck, hope you get off the wait list!

I was recently wait-listed at a school where I felt I had my best interview, then accepted to Miami where I felt I had my WORST of 9+. After talking about how much I love research and my projects he started talking about how he is strictly a clinician and feels doctors who focus too much on research are terrible for patients yada yada... I felt like I would for sure be wait-listed but somehow the stars aligned for me, just goes to show how unpredictable this whole game is. I hope the best for you and your cycle.

I would for SURE write in an update that mentions your ophthalmology interests/experiences! Out of all schools that I've written to/interviewed at over the past two cycles, Miami is by far the most receptive to student updates. They're also super transparent about how their application process works and the staff in general just seems really happy to help potential applicants out in any way possible (and reasonable). Just one of the many reasons I feel in love with the school.
Anyway, long story short- I hope your added shadowing/research works to get you to Miami in the summer/fall. Rooting for you!
Hello everyone, first time poster. Just curious about the process since I am still awaiting an II. What are these remaining "acceptance dates"? I am unaware of when these occur...if someone can shed light it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does that mean they only review the people who interviewed between those dates for an acceptance? Or they still consider the whole pool of post-interviewed applicants- interviewed and waitlisted for acceptance at each date?Miami has accepts 20 students at a time on 10 different acceptance dates to fill their class. 4 of such dates remain: 2/4, 2/18, 3/11 and 4/8.

Hopefully that question makes sense...lol
Many thanks! Yeah, that makes sense to do it that way. My interview dates a little late in the cycle, so I was just wondering.I believe they review the whole pool of interviewed applicants. I could be wrong about this but I think everyone gets a score based on every aspect of their application and also their interview report, then ranked by score on a giant list and then the top 20 on that list are accepted at a time, while any recent interviewed student who has not received a decision at that point would also be wait-listed if they were not in the top 20 for that time. So if you were waitlisted and end up being in the top 20 on the list for the next acceptance date, you can be accepted off of the WL.
