When you say denied interview, did they totally reject you or did they say you were still under consideration for a later date? Sorry to hear btw.
 
Denied an interview. Instate applicant. 3.9 GPA, 29 MCAT with great ECs and LORs.

Sorry to hear that. That is strange, since I thought with your stats you'd be "guaranteed" an interview.

I was told numerous times by those who spoke with admissions that a 3.5 gpa and a 28 or higher means an automatic interview for instate applicants. For everyone still wondering if that's true, it's simply not the case.
 
Had a 3.5 and a 31. Pretty unique ECs and a very diverse background. Rejected today. Really upset. :arghh:

II received last week! Its not until December though. Also for anyone wondering I know someone who had a 4.0 and over 32 MCAT, instate resident with exceptional ECs and never got an interview at Mizzou. You never know why a school will reject you so I try to not take it personally... but I know thats easier said than done. Good luck to everyone!

Wait, seriously? Was this person a first time applicant? Did the rejection come this week? Mizzou's medical school must have amped up its standards because I don't think they were doing this sort of this last year. Maybe they are planning on interviewing significantly less people this year.
 
@STLMako91 Completely serious! It was actually last year. And they go to a pretty awesome med school now. It was definitely shocking to me too.

Sometimes if they're an exceedingly good applicant, state schools will reject them on the grounds that they would almost certainly get an acceptance at a prestigious school, at which they'd matriculate, and they would have been a waste of an interview slot. My friend has a 38 MCAT with >3.9 and was rejected from his state school of Arizona but has interviews at Mayo, Baylor, Chicago, Northwestern, etc.

Hmm. I heard that was a thing but never really looked into it. I think in my case, I definitely had the stats/ECs/LORs to get in as an instate student, but I don't think my "story" and personality were considered a good fit from the admissions point of view. There's nothing I can do in that case. I am who I am.

Yeah that makes sense. Still kind of a bummer if you like your state school for location, tuition, etc.
 
I enjoyed my interview day! Also, they were really transparent with their applicant scoring process that the admissions committee does. And they said they release decisions on the last day of every month. Overall, wonderful school and I would be happy to attend if it were my only acceptance!

P.S. If you're OOS, they can make it so that you only pay OOS tuition for the first year by helping you become a MO resident by 2nd year!

They told us at interview day that after the interview your file is 100% closed. That makes me think they will take an update BEFORE the interview day.

Were the questions pretty typical and did you have ethics/current event questions? 1 hour interviews with each interviewer is longer than my other interviews have been did it feel excessively long?

Everyone kept asking what I do with free time in addition to the ethics/background questions. Wasn't too bad or at least I hope I didn't unknowingly do bad.

Fairly standard interview questions. Be prepared to talk about Ebola.
 
I had quite a few ethical questions in one of my interviews. The interviewer continually asked "but what if this happened" type questions. This interview was a little stressful. The other one was super laid back and conversational, so it just depends who you get.

They said they interview 400 and they had less than 10 interviewees during my day there. Patience! They also indicated applications jumped by ~10% this year.

So does that mean they are slightly reducing the number of people they interview? I thought last year they interviewed like 450...(?) 10% more apps, wow...so thats like 1800 applicants for 96 seats? Yeesh.

104 seats! Or 108, I can't remember.
 
Yeah i'm literally just quoting the Dean of Admissions. She day said 400 but it's probably not cut off like that.
 
I interviewed here today and it wasn't bad at all! My interviewers were super nice and one even said at the beginning that they are there to be my advocate in the admissions meeting! They aren't there to trip you up they are there to help you! I only had one ethics question so it was relatively easy. Today was my last interview so the hard part is over for me now! 🙂

Congrats on the interviews being over!!
I interviewed at MU recently and I didn't feel like my interviewer was there to be my advocate! Actually, I thought this was my most difficult interview. Luck of the draw!

Agreed. I had a tough interviewer here but it was a good experience overall! My second one went much better.
 
Have any OOSers who received a secondary been rejected preinterview yet? Or does it seem like once you get the secondary they will most likely interview you?

They said it is rare but they really wanted to let me know tonight. They said they had just gotten out of their admission meeting!

My impression was that it was going to be toward the end of every month, not necessarily literally the last day.
