For those who have interviewed and know Houston, what are my changes of making my flight that leaves the Houston airport at 530? I was not worried about it before but driving to my hotel took an hour and a half and I imagine it is even worse on a Friday at 3:30

Which airport? If you're going to Hobby, no worries, you'll make it there just fine. If you're going to IAH, I'd try and leave at or just after 3 pm (the last half hour is just a wrap up session that you don't need to stay for and is no big deal if you head out a little early).

Thanks for the advice. I think I will ask them at check in tomorrow to sneak out a little early.

OOS Acceptance 10/23/14!!! Does anyone know of the best places to live near campus outside of the student housing options? Thanks!
Anywhere on the metro shuttle train would be fine because it gets you right near UT Health quickly.

I was transmitted 8/21 but my final rec letter did not get submitted until 10/8. Is it possible they haven't reviewed by file yet? I heard some schools will not send an II until everything g is in.

I transmitted on 08/14 and still haven't heard back :-(. I see people who transmitted later than I did getting interview invites. Does this mean that I may not get an II? I'm really starting to worry because I love Houston and I'd really like to see what this school has to offer.

Don't worry, I transmitted 7/31. You aren't alone

There are so many options. Most students live off the rail just south of the school for their first year until they get a better feel for Houston. There are a lot of places that are either rail accessible, have a shuttle to the TMC, or are a little farther away but cheaper, which makes paying for parking (about 160ish a month) worth it because you get more apartment for your money. Once prematch day happens for Texas, a class FB page usually gets started that upperclassman will give advice on, and if you come to Welcome Weekend in the spring, they'll take you and show you the major apartment complexes in the area. Congrats on your acceptance!

Hey guys just to let you know I have spoken to a few students that currently attend and they said to try not to read too much into when we get our interviews relative to when we transmit. This is one of the more random schools when it comes to granting interviews. A friend of mine transmitted in JULY last year and didn't get an interview invite until late November. She is now attending. I have heard back from every school in Texas except for here so I have no idea where I stand with them. Hopefully we all hear soon!

I really hope Houston doesn't give out all their pre-match spots on Nov 15th. I interview Nov 19th and I'd love to be able to hear back in December sometime.

I've heard that Houston isn't terribly pre-match heavy? I hope that's true, since my best chance given my late interview seems to be the match.

Yeah apparently they hardly prematch.

Hey guys! Does UT Houston still have interview spots available? I still haven't heard back from them :/
Me neither. Transmitted 8/28, MCAT Score back 9/9. 3.84 cgpa, 31 MCAT. Starting to give up with November upon us.

UTH interviews well into december (I think dec 15th is the last one) and has one or two dates in Jan. So I don't think they're all gone yet (not an adcom, I don't know for sure, but I don't think invites have gone out based on when people had options to interview).

Accepted as of last week! Does anyone know if there's a facebook group yet?

FB group doesn't usually get started till Texas pre-match day. I think it was the first years who started it last year, but I'm not positive....

Don't give up, I submitted mine a little bit before yours and just recently received an II. My MCAT score is a bit higher but a 31 is a great score that shouldn't effect you! It is very possible that they just haven't even gotten to looking at your application yet -- it appears they are pretty slow at this, which is probably why they prematch so few applicants.

A student there told us about 40 people out of 240 in their class pre-matched, but there are probably people who pre-matched, but chose to attend another school, so it is higher.

how many schools did u hear so far in total though?
I've heard from 2 schools out of state that I didn't get into, which is fine, and I had an interview at A&M in September and heard from another school in Sept for an II OOS, scheduled in December. This was all early September and earlier. Other than that, I haven't heard anything from any Texas schools...

You only need one good interview to get accepted. But, I hear that acceptance odds increase with multiple interviews especially in Texas where there is a statewide match

I hope that's true. I've been complete since mid July and haven't heard anything either. IS. I've had lots of out of state interviews, but still no word here

So every Monday until Dec 15 + 2 in Jan? Meaning... 8 dates left, tops. Eek.

I think they are interviewing on Fridays and every third Wednesday of the month, when I called they said it was up to mid-Jan so probably up to Friday, Jan 16. And also I believe she said up to Dec 19 but she wasn't absolutely sure. There is still hope but you're right about 7 or 8 dates tops :/

it's been about two weeks since they last released interviews...so hopefully soon they will release the last few groups of interviews. has anybody heard anything?

Hmm that is interesting but I know that some people just get contacted later in the cycle even if they were complete early. I was complete with them 9/15 so I don't know exactly in what order they look at apps. Some people at my southwestern interview told me they were complete in June and didn't get the invite until last week.

I mean a week before that so two weeks ago from now.

Does anyone know the address we can send thank you notes to? I want to send handwritten notes to my interviewers but I think it might be easier to actually get it to them if I just emailed. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thank you 🙂 Loved this school!

no news as an OOS applicant. LizzyM score of only 68. Plenty of research and leadership. Should I give up hope at this point?

No need to give up hope completely. Houston is pretty match-heavy, and although that doesn't directly affect OOS applicants, it does mean that many of their spots are still "up for grabs" until February. Granted, it gets less likely all the time, so I wouldn't hold your breath, but it's not impossible to still hear something!

Go to their online directory and search for your interviewers. I hope you still remember their names! : p

Anyone knows if UTH has filled up their OOS acceptance as of now?

Does anyone know how the adcoms feel about in the area emails?
