II today! 3.7/31 IS transmitted July 1st. Interviewing on sept 19th!

Does anyone know how many II are sent out each year?

So, according to MSAR:

IS:
Verified Applicants: 3,333
Interviewed: 791
Accepted (from US Compass): 411
Matriculated: 218

OOS:
Verified Applicants: 976
Interviewed: 54
Accepted: ???
Matriculated: 21

Hope this helps everyone!

Congratulationssss! If you don't mind me asking, how did you study for your MCAT the second time? I am applying this cycle but I will be retaking my MCAT soon. I feel like my MCAT score isn't competitive enough, and I'd rather retake the MCAT now so I can take the current one and not the new one.
Hey sorry, just now seeing this. I took 3 additional upper level biology courses; cell bio, molecular bio, and biochem which I feel helped strengthen my foundation a lot. The main thing I did was to take the time to learn from my mistakes during practice exams though. Like take two full days reviewing what you did wrong/are iffy on by reading relevant material and doing relevant practice problems. The aamc self assesment was a great tool for me to help pinpoint my weak areas! PM me if you want any more advice I'd be happy to help!

So my US Grad compass does not show the number accepted and matriculated (this is the US grad compass right?), if so how do you view that?

33MCAT and 3.69 GPA not received anyII from anywhere yet. submitted on 7/7 . Texas resident. Can I still hope for any TX?

I got all the data except Accepted from MSAR. I got Accepted data from a friend with US Compass because US Compass has that but MSAR doesn't (MSAR just has matriculated and interviewed and applied).

It's still pretty early in the cycle. I know some people who didn't hear back from med. schools until October/November, and they had completed all their apps by July. Don't lose hope!

I got a 35 and 3.89 and am TX and completed on 7JUL with 8 years Combat Medic experience. I wouldn't lose hope until you are for sure rejected.

Stay positive you have great stats! Sometimes it's just a waiting game!

Had my interview here yesterday, and it was indeed the first regular (non-JAMP) interview. So lots more II to come I'm sure! 🙂

Houston is also completely changing their curriculum. They are going to an integrated, system's based one that would end in Feb. of M2. Clinical experiences are supposed to start much earlier than normal in M1 apparently as well. They only had a very broad overview of the new curriculum as it is still being developed apparently.

As for the interviews, they were the usual. Like all schools, some interviewees had more uncomfortable interviewers ("stress") but most people seemed very happy with how they went. Let me know if you have questions!

I applied for the MSTP program here and mailed in their short secondary and check in mid July. I have yet to receive any sort of confirmation at all?? I emailed the program director and still haven't heard anything back...

Anyone know how the MSTP application process here goes?

TX schools have to take 90% IS, so I am sure you will get II if your EC is ok. Stay positive. It is still early.

MD/PhD (I don't think we have MSTP status...) has their own interviews, separate from the straight MD interviews. They only have four or five a year, and I don't think they've done any yet. I would give it some time before you get concerned. I can't think of anyone else you could contact, the program director of the MD/PhD program is very involved and separate from everyone at the med school.

No worries if you haven't heard anything yet. Most of my classmates didn't interview until much later in the season, so don't let the time line of the interview invite worry you!

Current student here.

It's still relatively early in the interview cycle so don't freak out just yet 🙂. I got my II day before Halloween and interviewed in mid November. Was matched on match day. A number of my classmates interviewed even later than I did so no need to worry right now !

I remember how nerve racking the process was but at this point all anyone can do is just wait it out till news comes....

I don't think they have your mcat/gpa (My interviewer said he didn't know my mcat, but they might still have access to it somewhere), but they do have your PS, rec letters, and the timeline/descriptions of all your ECs.

I'm a little confused as to why the "University of Texas Medical School at Houston" doesn't have a Wikipedia page. They've been around since 1969... maybe it's because that was the summer of '69?

I was just told by a current student friend that the faculty just decided to push the new curriculum back a year as there were too many issues with implementing it for our year. Does anyone have confirmation of this?????? Maybe the people interviewing this week will have some news for us on Friday....

Yes. The curriculum change has been pushed back a year. Current applicants will be on the same block system we are currently using.

They just want to make sure that they're making changes the best way that they can, and they want to be careful to do it right so they're taking some more time to get input on the best way to implement the new curriculum.

Does anyone get II from UTH this week? I am wondering why UTH forum is the least active forum among all Texas schools. shouldn't it be the most popular school behind Baylor and UT southwestern?

I feel like they've given out the least amount of II? Lots of people at my Southwestern interview hadn't heard back from Houston yet so maybe they're taking their time?

^So this has been confirmed? Oh man...I know a lot of UT Houston students, and the one thing they complain about is the current block system.

Same!!! On my interview day, someone asked the current med students what they least like about the school, and all of the students were like "Our block tests SUCK, but y'all won't have to deal with that so YAY!!" Now I guess we would if we went here...

Did anyone who interviewed on 9/19 have any updates?

I interviewed on 9/17 and the students said that the administration is now planning to change the curriculum starting with the Fall 2016 entry year because the new curriculum wouldn't be ready to be implemented by Fall 2015.

I talked to a lot of MS4s and MS3s and they all said that the first couple block tests sucked but once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad!

I'd agree with what pybob's MS3/MS4s said - the first two blocks were really rough, but I actually kind of appreciate them now. I love having free weekends, and I like being able to take a few slow weeks at the beginning of a block and only really kick it into gear for the last couple weeks. Block weeks were almost a deciding factor against UTH for me, but I'm glad I didn't let them deter me.

I just got an under review email from here today. This is super late... is any one else still under review here?
