Ok, UW math is not working out.

Idaho WWAMI site=30 students
Washington WWAMI site (only Spokane)=40 students
Alaska WWAMI site=20 students
Montana WWAMI site=30 students
Wyoming WWAMI site=20 students
UW Seattle Washington residents=unknown

On MSAR is states that UW accepts 120 "in region" and 115 out of state. But with the totals listed above first year WWAMI enrollment = 140 students, this is without UW Seattle Washington resident enrollment(which I would guess to be around 80)? Something is not right.
Yeah the MSAR information is definitely not listed correctly. There's no way they accept that many out-of-region people. I always figured that was just poor presentation on MSAR's behalf (or whoever is in charge of putting the info on there).

It really sucks for the 67% of people who get strung along for 4 months. Terrible, terrible, terrible way to do admisssions.
Meh, most of the other schools that I've interviewed are non-rolling, so I'll take it. Plus, as we've seen from previous posts, people have been rejected post-interview, so we are definitely in an okay shape.

In any case, this Washingtonian transplant in the East Coast is going off to sleep. Best of luck to all of us in the future.

(Kind of new to SND so not sure if I quoted this right).

MSAR:
In state - 120
OOS -115 (-8 PhD & -2 deferred)=105

It says that WWAMI are considered "In-State". If you think of this as a typo the math works out. Change it to "OOS"

My thoughts:
In-State = Seattle 80 + Spokane 40

Out of state = WY, AK, MT, ID = 100 the last 5 are true OOS students.

(The 100 comes from the numbers you gave for the regional state students so hopefully those are right).

Hopefully my numbers all came out right. I'm just throwing out a pitch in the dark.

The only problem is that we have more than 5 OOS people, not including the MD/PhD people.

I honestly have no idea how the MSAR calculated their number.

AFAIK, WWAMI students do not go to Seattle. And Seattle has about ~20 OOR with about 8 MSTP, so about 12 are true OOR students. Also keep in mind that most schools give more offers than there are seats assuming that some will reject the offer.

It's also hard for me to give a number of OOR people since a couple of my classmates were considered WA residents but did not live in WA prior to medical school. I would estimate it at about 25 OOR people, including MD/PhD. I would image many more are accepted, but turn the offer down due to the cost as an OOR student.

Has anyone who was placed in the SUC group in the past been accepted before March? Or does this mean we are most likely going to hear back at the end of March? I'm an OOR here too if that makes a difference.

I am new to this post but wanted to shed some light on a few things that I learned recently about the UW admissions process from a presentation by the dean or admissions. First off, I know a lot of people have been wondering why some people have ad an acceptance in 2-3 days post-interview. This does not necessarily mean there was an excom meeting, it could mean they went to an "electronic vote." Students with a high enough score from their interviews are voted on via email within a day or two, usually resulting in an expedited acceptance.

For myself, I also received a SUC email yesterday (2nd one, interviewed in October). this email looked a little different from the first. It did not mention the percentage of last years applicants that got in off this list this time but did say: "A final decision has not been made on your application yet, but we are pleased to inform you that you are still being considered for admission." I thought this was a little more uplifting than the somewhat intimidating odds.

Everything I have heard and read says being SUC'd is good, but let the wait continue. And from reading old forums, I have seen people get in after 1-2 SUCs, others taking longer than that. I am with the person who said they must be rolling out some acceptances before the end of the month if they are going to fill half the class by december. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

I would like to know the experiences of the true OOS MD applicants that get accepted. At a less than 0.5% acceptance rate (rough guess), I can imagine things [sarcastically] like: Navy Seal, published in Cell, started free clinic, relief work, delivering vaccinations on dogsleds. I wish they would post some people's bios to get an idea of what they expect. OHSU posts some of their accepted applicants bios and it is nice to see real people, not just stats.

But in the email it states that only 33% of those receiving SUC emails get accepted. Not great odds honestly.
I still stand by the second part of my statement yesterday. I'm sure they have a good idea of who they are going to select for their class at this point--seeing as how they've interviewed the majority of people they're going to interview. At this point, they're only waiting to make sure that they've considered all applicants this cycle. They must have compared the SUC pool at some point to determine who was in it/out of it.

Sorry for the lengthy post, two more things I forgot. They told us they had a 25%-35% increase in applicants this year from last year, which may account in some of the delays we have been seeing in getting interview dates and updates. Also, they are holding fewer excom meetings this year than last year, which may be why fewer acceptance have come from those meetings thus far.

Delivering vaccinations on dogsleds lololol

How does the SUC process work for those of us (IS) interviewing in February or March? Will we hear a definite decision sooner post-interview? Or if we get an SUC email, is that essentially a waitlist at that point?

There will be a quicker turnaround between your interview and your hearing back. They craft their waitlist at the end of March, so you would have to receive a definite decision before then (acceptance, rejection, waitlist).

That's what I figured. Thanks!

Hello guys!
About How many OOR applicants get interviews each year? and how many actually get accepted?

wow. how do you know that?
I remember finding it somewhere on their website or some source, but I'm positive that's what it said for last year. I'm not sure if that has changed for this year given the larger applicant pool.

To those who are just receiving SUC emails (and hopefully some acceptances): When was your interview date?
Mine was 12/4, and they told us the committee was meeting "before the holidays" so I have been hoping to hear something by the Friday before Christmas

By "just" I mean "just now".. Seems like there has been some action in the last 24 hours...

11/12/14

How do you know that they are almost done? I thought they went into next year?
Obviously there are people who are still going to get interviews, but just like with every other school, they've interviewed the "stellar" applicants; or at least the most likely to be the fit for their class at this point. Aside from the WWAMI regions who don't get the chance to interview until around February, I would venture to guess not too many top-notch applicants are waiting until February to get an interview. So at this point, they've seen the majority of applicants, as well as interviewed them, so they must have some idea where everyone stands.

2 mid-october interviewees received their most recent (second) SUC a couple days ago. Wednesday or Thursday I think.

Has anyone received a post-interview email requesting a re-interview due to a "divergence of opinions?"
I'm not sure what to make of it and how I know what to do differently….
Try to be less ... polarizing??

It means your two interviewers had differing opinions. Just go again, and realize you get a second chance to get a positive opinion. Just take a deep breath and realize you get a second chance.

Just practice and practice more to make a good second opinion.

Personally, I'm envious. My interview went terribly and I would love an opportunity to better highlight myself.

I'm not sure anyone would know this, but for those of us who interviewed in early December is it likely that we will hear back before the holidays, or rather in January?

I think we will. The student who did my tour (on 12/4) said that the committee will meet "before the holidays".
Judging by the response times for others on this thread I think (wishfully) we will hear something before Christmas. If not I would definitely expect something in very early January.
Those who interviewed before thanksgiving had about a three week turn around time and apparently some were told that time was delayed due to thanksgiving. So that's where my logic comes from.
Good luck to you!

If I were you I would try to do a mock interview before the next real one. Maybe try your school's career center or something. They would likely be able to give you feedback on what to do differently.

I interviewed on 11/12 and didn't hear back until 12/11. Which was over 4 weeks. The committee only meets once a month and since we heard back on 12/11, I imagine there won't be another committee meeting until January.

Man superdoc, thanks for popping my bubble...
Guess I'll just make myself comfortable 🙂

My post came across a little more matter of fact than I meant it too. But, yeah it was pretty miserable to think we were going to hear back within a couple weeks and then it ended up taking forever. You could hear back sooner if they have one last committee meeting before the holidays, but I would place my bet on ~January 8th.

For what it's worth: One of the Idaho WWAMI Deans will be presenting to the Idaho legislation for 5 addition funded WWAMI seats. Not sure if these are TRUST spots or not. IF approved, and that's a strong IF, they wouldn't even know until Spring once the budget is finalized. I've also heard that the WA residents who would go to WSU-UI campus (#20) *might* be starting in Spokane instead next year rather than WSU. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. They are trying to shunt people to Spokane while also expanding the UI site for its residents, with a goal of 40 students per year.

Correct, WSU is no longer an option for one of the WWAMI sites in Washington. Just Seattle and Spokane now. And they are trying to expand Spokane's enrollment from 40-80 (not this year but over the next few years) and have students do both 1st and 2nd year there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the EXCOM had another meeting before the end of the month. Last year's meetings and SUC emails were all over the place too. I got my SUC emails on 11/15 and 11/26. The emails could have possibly been delayed or maybe they had a meeting later. Nobody can really be sure. Hopefully they have a meeting before New Year's. :xf:

Since the curriculum is changing, I assume everyone will be staying in Spokane campus for the full 1.5 years. And I guess Gonzaga is the possible replacement for WSU now?

Last year there was two EXCOM meetings per month, this year there is only one per month.
