2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, my AMCAS was verified on 7/18 and I haven't even gotten a complete email yet... wondering if I should call them? Or would that be a sure ticked to rejection? 😉

When you say they release secondaries in "batches" does that mean they don't release them in the order in which they were received?

My app was verified on the 24th and I still haven't received a secondary. It's been a week and half and it's the only one I don't have. Has anyone else not received a secondary?
My application was also verified on the 24th. I have a 3.65/3.54/35 MCAT, so I'd imagine I'd get past screening, so I'm guessing they just haven't gotten to us yet. Did you apply to Albany or NYMC, by chance? I have yet to receive secondaries from them either.

There has been debate over whether or not they actually screen pre-secondary, despite the fact that their website says they do. What they mean by in batches is that they seem to release secondaries every so often to all, or the majority, of applicants who have applied since the last release.

Yea, I have almost exactly the same numbers as you, but a lower mcat. I got NYMC the day after I was verified. I'm not going to worry about it too much lol

I'm pretty sure Wake reviews primaries every two weeks. There should be another batch coming out late this week I believe.

Similar stats. Haven't gotten one from Albany, received NYMC earlier today. Waiting on Wake Forest as well.
Verified around 7/27.

so my primary was verified in mid July and I have yet to receive a confirmation of receipt email from Wake Forest, anyone else experienced a similar delay?

@minor.groove , I was verified on 7/18 and still haven't received a "received" email yet either. I'm contemplating calling them, but then again, they might just not have gotten to us yet.

Does everyone else's secondary page only show their secondary application, but no actual status whatsoever? i received a complete e-mail way back when, but it literally has no status anywhere, unless I am blind (don't put it past me.)

Check the first email they sent you, there's a link in there for status check.

Copy and paste the link into the browser and it works. Good stuff. Just confirmed that I am complete via status check. Thanks!

If it's a gmail account, check your "promotions" tab. My complete email ended up there randomly.

yeah I'm in the same boat

the link doesn't work for me…where did you get it from?

Hmm. It was from one of the emails they sent to us. I just remember complaining about how long the url is

rejeccted pre secondary today...don't care cause i just got my second II TODAY!!!! GOODLUCK TO THE REST OF YOU!
that is so strange, you are clearly a good applicant, how would you get screened out? congrats on the II's though!!!

Just submitted secondary. That fee stung quite a bit, I've been spoiled by schools in FL.

Anyone else received a secondary recently? Just wondering when the next batch of secondaries will be sent out.

@Pluto2 @maxiMD I called the admissions office today to ask them about this. They said that they haven't gotten very far in their stack of applications yet, so if your AMCAS was verified in mid-July like mine was (7/18) she said don't worry, they haven't touched our apps yet. She said they weren't sure when they would mark them as received, but "sometime soon". She was really nice though. Nice admissions people are always a plus.

Thanks so much for checking, good luck. I'll let you know as soon (and if) if I hear from them.

No problem! Best of luck to you!

Email was received at 5 PM EST to provide an account:
Your primary application from AMCAS has been received. It is being evaluated and you will be sent an e-mail notification of your status within 1-2 weeks.
I validated 7/16

good luck to you too -

Fun fact of the day: Wake Forest has Pass/Fail grading for the first two years, but the student handbook confirms that the school does keep track of class rank.

Class Standing
Actual grades received and class rankings are recorded in student records maintained in the Office of Student Records. Class rank is calculated at the end of Year 2 and again at end of Year 3.

Class rank at Wake does exist, but it really is only for the student's benefit. The class rank only appears in your Dean's letter, when applying to residency, if you, the student, choose to include it. If you are in the top 5 best students in your class, of course you want programs to see how well you've done compared to your peers. If, instead, you find yourself in the bottom quartile of the class, then you may choose to not include your class rank and instead highlight other aspects of your application. Wake tries to keep all parties happy!

If you choose not to include it in your residency application, wouldn't that be a red flag?

For those of you who are also OOS with no substantial connection to NC, did you come up with something? Or did you find it better to just leave the space blank?

Finally got my secondary! Thought it was pretty easy, I submitted it within an hour.

Does anybody else have issues with formatting? All of my apostrophes and quotations seem to become question marks. I'm not sure what I did, but by manually typing them in after copy/paste it fixed the issue.

Did you get an email from them confirmed they received it? I submitted today too.

I'm not to that point in my medical career, but I assume that Wake wouldn't offer it as an option if it got feedback from our own PDs that it is a red flag. I think if the class rank is very conspicuously absent it may be noticed, but that's why I qualified my statement by saying the dean's letter should highlight other aspects of your application.

Are you copy/pasting from Word or some other word processor? By default, word uses something called "smart quotes," which is two distinct symbols for opening and closing quote. These look better but are not always recognized properly in text with less formatting info, like the forms on the secondary application. Replacing them manually on the submission form is one way to take care of the issue. You can also disable them in Word - there is an option hidden somewhere.

PS: Since you have submitted, my comments are probably not that helpful. 🙂

Nope, no email.

Mid July. My letters were received in late July. Wake asked for an email asking for a letter from my grad programs director saying I would complete the program before July 1st before sending it.
