2015-2016 Albert Einstein College of Medicine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The secondary asked for my citizenship status and I have to choose between US permanent resident, international student (asked me to enter visa type) and deferred action for childhood arrivals. I'm a Canadian citizen so I thought I should check "international student", but I don't have an US visa at this point because I thought I'll need my acceptance letter to apply for a study visa to the US, so what should I write for my visa type? Thanks guys.

I am also a Canadian applicant, I'm filling out the secondary right now and I have the same problem. Did you figure it out by any chance ?

Hey all,

MS3 at AECOM here. It's a totally awesome school, and I wish you all the best of luck on the application and interview process!

I highly recommend you read the thread from last year (2014-2015) for some solid info about the school, housing, and all that.

If anyone has any other specific questions, feel free to post them here or message me, and I'll do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂

Sorry for the silly question but:
For the question asking "did you have to work to support your household income," I did 10/h. a week of work-study during college to pay for books, part of board, etc. Would that count as supporting household income or as working for my own discretionary spending money? Thanks, I know it's a small question but I want to answer it accurately. Can't wait to submit this secondary soon, it is a beast!

I would probably say no.

I submitted on 7/20 and was complete 8/7, so it took me about 2 weeks to get marked complete.

I wouldn't necessarily freak out until it was longer than 4-6 weeks. Every school has varying degrees of... "efficiency"... Just be patient. Things tend to spend a lot of time outside of our hands and that can be very anxiety inducing.

I called and asked a very similar question of the Irvine admissions people, and even though I told her I hesitated to say I contributed, she said that I probably still offered up some money here or there, so it would count.
Since they explicitly told me I should, I did for Irvine, but would still hesitate for other schools.

I genuinely do not understand where this huge variation in completion email times stems from.

They probably choose which applications to review for completeness using a powerball-like lotto machine.

On a serious note, it might have to do with the form of LOR submission. Letter packets and committee letters are (almost) universally accepted regardless of composition. I used a letter packet service myself. Maybe in the case of individual letters they scrutinize each letter writer to their standards?

Hahahhaha I feel like I agree with the first statement more. I used a committee letter and I'm still waiting. Ugh this is incredibly frustrated especially since this is the last one I'm waiting on but I don't think I need to describe frustrating to anyone on these forums.

Congrats on the II, everyone!

Still no complete email and I submitted 7/28.

Anyone with a submission date of 7/28 or later receive the complete email?

Hey guys. Finishing the secondary for Einstein. Does anyone know which courses satisfy the following math requirements?

1) Quantitative reasoning
2) Analysis & interpretation of data
3) Construction and interpretation of functions & graphs

Your help would be much appreciated!

Anyone? xD

Don't know, my guess is a mixture of calculus/statistics/research with use of statistics/algebra/advanced math

Yeah that's what I thought. Do the following work? I need to differentiate stats from calc because I took AP stats in high school. This is such a pain.

1) Quantitative reasoning - Stats
2) Analysis & interpretation of data - Research
3) Construction and interpretation of functions & graphs - Calculus

In case anyone was wondering, I called their office to ask if we needed to provide documentation for gap year activities. I was told that it could be provided later and is not essential at this time (sounds like something for post interview and it should be in PDF format). The lady was very nice!!

Hmm, this seems like it would be okay to call about not being complete yet?

EDIT: Looking at last years thread, it might be better to just be patient

Marcy racking up the interviews! A little jealous over here 😛
Same! haha how many do you have, like 6 now Marcy? 😛 we have the same LizzyM so I'll be waiting for mine lol
Haha I am in the same range as you two as well so here's to hoping we can be as successfull as Marcy! LizzyM of 70-71 unite!
Okay I'm done derailing thread now:angelic:

Your interviews are coming...don't panic!! A LizzyM of ~70 is a scary place to be, especially when you see people with much higher stats! I have received 8 II and am both blown away and incredibly grateful. It just goes to show that some schools truly do a holistic review of applicants! Good luck! We got this!

People who got II's, when did you guys get the complete email?
Also, does this school send rejections on a rolling basis or just at the end of the cycle?

Submitted my secondary on 8/7. Still not complete. Why do you hurt me so, Einstein?

So, I updated einstein about my speeding ticket. They responded back about updating and said that their interview season runs from September 16th to April, just FYI.

I believe some schools (Einstein might have been one of them, UVM is another) ask about speeding tickets on the secondary.

II, kinda in disbelief

submitted and complete 7/19
it's awesome that you have the option of requesting to speak with a specific faculty member in a research area you want to pursue. time to do some online "stalking"

Congrats! Do you mind telling us your LizzyM score?

any current students willing to speak about their favorite/least favorite aspect of the school?
